So sad to think we'll never hear Merle sing this again. So glad Johnny is a part of my musical life. Love to watch this man play.

@MrGuimbard I agree, when you put it all together, it's hard for anyone to stand next to Johnny Hiland without looking silly.

It's a Merle Haggard. Merle was Ronnie Van Zant's favorite singer. He recorded it as a tribute to his idol , "THE HAG".

This guy is an excellent guitar player. Are there any songs that he plays the way that they are composed? I understand putting his stamp on songs. I am referring to tempo.
@HunterMann12 жыл бұрын
Very cool! I wonder if some of his licks are actually slide guitar parts... He sure can smoke that guitar!!

Awesome work as usual. Didn't Merle Haggard release this song originally? I may have it backwards, I can't seem to find a release date.

Merle did it in 1969 skynyrd in 77,, skynyrd was going to do an album with Merle in 1978 or 79..!!Holy cow that would have ruled!

@fightback38 Not Skynyrd, But just RVZ he had everything Merle ever recorded up to that point....It Skynyrd hadn't been Ronnie's band they would have never cut this song...Allen Collins and Gary Rossington thought it "TOO COUNTRY"...

@DaiTasshiWill He is legally blind. He has a condition that he can't entirely control his eye movements, since birth I believe. All the more amazing
@KaichoWillFehres13 жыл бұрын
Is this guy blind or is that rapid eye movement reflecting his awesome picking, shit that's hot!

The lead is all the same volume, no feelin, and why is his left pinky so afraid of the fretboard?

Grab your guitar,show us how it's done
@dadpa10 жыл бұрын
He COULD say that he doesn't need to use the pinky to outplay mere mortals, but he doesn't. He started off playing with a slide on his pinky. He learned to use the other three fingers just fine. Hell, Django Reinhardt only had two working fingers on his left hand. Does that bother you too?

Yeti Van Marshall This is more or less a bluegrass take, especially with this speed.
