I was in the Air Force with Tommy Cash in 1959-1960 in Germany. He used to sing at the Airmen's club and I drank many beers with him. Great memories. I still have photos of us.

Oh Hank I cannot Thank you enough. I had two brothers one that sang this song to me when ever I was sad...He knew my Dad was my hero. The brother passed and I wish often I could hear him sing it again. My Dad is a minister and loves Johnny Cash and my other brother is amazingly caring for him as he is ill. Finding Johnny singing this song with his brother for their Dad....I am speechless and in tears you have blessed my life with this gift. God Bless YOU>

His first love seemed to be selling real estate and playing golf. A few years ago I was contacted by his agent and asked if I would send a DVD of this video, which I was glad to do. To my surprise they sent me a new Tribute CD with Tommy singing a number of Johnny's songs. It was pretty good and I still have the CD having never put it in the car.

People post the craziest comments. Johnny sounds better. They don’t harmonize like the Everly Brothers, Slim Whitman does it better, etc., etc. I just don’t get those kind of posts at all. First, it wasn’t a contest. It also wasn’t a sophisticated, studio recording. Just a song together in front of a live audience. Everyone is aware that Johnny’s an international multi-decade superstar inducted into multiple Hall of Fames who probably had something approaching 100 albums of music over his career, widely considered at the very least one of the two or three greatest male country music stars OF HIS ERA and to many fans, the greatest ever. Especially, when you consider the recognition for his music in multiple genres and his popularity with widely diverse audiences in terms of age and music preferences. So yeah, there’s a fairly good chance Johnny’s considered the better talent. I can’t imagine ANYONE saying otherwise. (Other than their mother-who would not compare.) Most people, even at that time, didn’t even know he had a brother in the business. Most people weren’t aware Crystal Gayle was Loretta Lynn’s sister and Crystal was fairly well known.during her career. As far as two brothers harmonizing, that’s rare and very hard to pull off well and still requires a great deal of practice and performing together. Johnny and Tommy weren’t trying to compete with the Louvin or Stanley brothers. I don’t know the specifics but likely just a rare opportunity in Johnny’s extremely busy and demanding life to have some fun and get together and sing with and support his brother, who while not a superstar, was also no slouch and still managed to have a successful career while always living in the shadow of his much better recognized older brother, yet still in the spotlight of people wanting to judge him based on how he stacked up against the gold standard. Johnny’s a tough act to follow. People who come here know that. 🧨🧨

Hello Hank, in regards to Tommy Cash, If you meant as written "his one hit", I have to tell you he has had a lot more than just one. Rise and Shine, just to name another. In 2003 I was lucky enough to see Tommy live at Rooty Hill in Sydney Australia, it wasn't long before the passing of Johnny. What a nice man he is, he took time to spend some time with me talking about Johnny and his illness. Tommy is a star in his own right. I purchased his CD after the show and what a brilliant CD it is. He sings with Johnny, George, Tom T, Connie Smith and Jeannie C Riley too. I regard this CD as one of the best I have ever heard. If you are interested the CD is plainly called Tommy Cash and was released by Varese Saradande No. 302 066 749 2 www.VareseVintage.com
