This song was written by Rick Buck , Tommy's lead guitar player in The Cash Crew band. It is an amazing song - he put his heart into it. Glad you all like it :-) Rick is also my husband and I am very proud of him.

Hello Mrs Buck, would it be possible to get the lyrics, as I can't find them here in France. We'd like to include it in a tribute to johnny Cash we use to play in public with our amateur group " lezovox".Thank you. Congratulations to your husband. ( I apologize for my poor english)

I just now discovered this song. Was to a concert by Leroy van Dyke at the Iowa State fair and he was introducing his youngest son Ben (I think that was is name. My memory is not so good sometimes and I've always been terrible at remembering names) Anyway on my home I thought about Tommy and wondered if he still does any singing so looked him. I see this is pretty old though. Great song too

Tracy, I'm proud of him too, he made a wonderful tribute song for Tommy's brother and wife. When I was a young teenager we used to swim over to Jonny's house to steal alcohol, the guard caught us one day and was hollering at us, Johnny was walking out to his jeep I believe, but he gave us teenagers getting in trouble grin, I'll never forget that grin. I'm a retired Boat Captain in the oil fields, I retired a few years after we were trying to save the crane operator in his crane from the heat. I saw the movie around 2019 and learned he died, but it's not correct in the movie. Thank tour husband for playing with a great man, and becoming a great man also. Ohh, I also met Nancy at Vanderbilt Hospital, she was the mother of one of the band members in the band America, he was building a domed house on Nancy and her husbands' property in Dickinson. I was born in Nashville, lived in the projects on Vine Hill, went to Fall School, walked to Fair Park and the racetrack. We moved when I was 9 to Louisiana south of New Orleans, 2 weeks later I was shot in the head, it took me 1.5 years to learn to walk and talk again. After I went back to school, I got tired of being picked on and having my cane knocked out from under me going up or down stairs, I quit in 8th grade. Later, my dad got me a job on an oil field boat I fought the coast guard for a license, I had 1 useless arm, 1 leg shorter than the other, a crooked back, But I proved I could operate a boat in the oil field, the toughest boat handling job there was. I kept getting bigger licenses and bigger boats. I was the last boat to the right of the Coast Guard Helicopter picture putting the fire out, trying anyway. on the Deepwater Horizon fire.

I got a chance to tour with Tommy in the 90s. Although our religious views were opposite, he was such a nice guy, I still remember our nightly conversations, and me trying to get him to join the rest of us in the lounge, instead of bible study at midnight. A great guy and loved hearing his childhood stories of Johnny and he.

I toured with him in the mid/late 70's as well as Tommy Jennings. Odd to think that two of country music's greatest names had brothers named Tommy who were so overlooked by the musical world.

The lyric "when J.R joined the service the world met Johnny cash" is so great Johnny wasn’t really his name his name was J.R cash but when he joined the Air Force they Said that J.R wasn’t a "good enough" name so he wrote it down as John R cash

l love Johnny Cash, l've followed his music all my life, being the first song l strongly remember, "The Ring Of Fire" playing on the radio of my Father"s Ford Zephyr ute. I remember asking Him "Dad is that Man singing about people jumping through hoops that are on Fire"?, l really like that song, and He's a good singer. My Father told me His name is Johnny Cash. I was 6 yrs old born in Sept 1963. The same year johnny released the song. My Mother loves Elvis, but me, Johnny Cash is the world's best singer

Tommy does sound, a look a lot like Johnny, but Johnny is the deeper baritone voice If you listen but don't see their faces, it's easier to separate the sound. I am going to look up his website and read more. And just yesterday I went to John Carter Cash's website and listened as he sang his father's song from near the end of Johnny's life, and John Carter had tests soon his cheeks through most of the song. It's so difficult to listen to without crying, because it's Johnny's confession of his sins so I will get the album to remind myself that he was truly a sinner and a saint, just like Tommy sang in his tribute to his brother. Amen🙏🙏🙏

There are actually two titles of this song "My Brother Johnny Cash" & "The Legend Johnny Cash" the 2nd version can be found on the bands website thecashcrew on their one CD. It is a really great song & I am very proud of Rick for writing it. Glad you enjoyed it.

Excellent tribute. When Johnny Cash died, the only decent obit was in the Nashville Tennesseean, and I combed the papers available to me to try and find another. Nothing doing. Radio has forgotten, and that's a hanging crime. I planned to hear him in concert in New Jersey in 1983, but it didn't happen b/c Johnny went into rehab. But that was just Johnny. If I had actually bought the ticket, I'd have held onto it, like the Elvis ticket my mother-in-law has for a show cancelled by his death.
