Red Lantern Reviews I mean Skullface definitely had a motive, but I think the operative word there was obnoxious. Bolton is kind of a cartoony shovinistic villain, and I never really felt he was annoying, just entertaining. Skullface on the other hand has an interesting motive (don’t see too many antiglobalists), but his antics are plain out silly and underdeveloped.

At least a card-based Action RPG could make sense (Im not a fan). A tactical RPG needs tactics. You just can't put luck in it, or else it is a bad game. The biggest problem is card-based movement. That leads to enemies, likely very easily, getting the upper hand. I've never played it, but it seems pretty bad.

Sometimes I wish they had made the Ac!d games play like a traditional MG game, since it would work much better than MGS:PO with the control scheme. Like having them play like MGS 2 with small tweaks needed and much less handling since there'd be no need for dual camera movement cuz the main camera is an overhead view, fixed camera

Yeah they were sick. There's really nothing like them even today. If they came out now, they'd be far weaker games because they'd probably be F2P so the mechanics would be more built around that.

I can see why you wouldn't like card-based RPG systems, Johnny. The whole concept tends to contradict itself by allowing you to plan position-sensitive strategies, only to then make the actual execution luck-based with a deck of cards. And in the context of very limited options like Metal Gear AC!D pushes on you, it can be very frustrating.

+Kaze Memaryu Yeah, I agree completely. Especially since these kinds of things tend to already be RNG dependant enough as is (accuracy, evasion, etc) without completely taking effective planning control away from the player with cards. I feel games like Metal Gear Acid would be far better if they removed the cards entirely. Case in point: See games like XCOM. Your gear is your gear and you can rely on your gear and you're never at the whim of "oh, you suddenly only have consumables and no weapons in a heated firefight."

+Kaze Memaryu Tactical RPG's & card systems don't mix. The only game that did it right was Drone Tactics where the cards didn't do much.

tim5fl Eh, I wouldn't be so quick about that. Baten Kaitos did a very good job at the mix, though the combat system didn't involve any position-sensitive maneuvers, I think. And Phantasy Star Online 3 was also well-made
