Dolly has a flawless right hand fingerpick technique that is very unique. And I still can't get over her ability to fret that guitar with those long fingernails! Quite extraordinary. As incredible and prolific she is as a songwriter, I don't think she gets enough credit as a guitarist and musician overall.

I've thought the same things for years...and she's still doing it. I guess file it under "things only guitarists notice and ponder."

First time I’ve come across her u guitar playing, and went looking for a comment like this. Damn is she great. There’s another video where she sings a song she wrote about Johnny Carson, and her self-accompaniment is even lovelier than this one - such a great rhythmic feel from her right hand with those nails adding a unique kind of shuffle sound. So cool

She hung around Chet Atkins a lot and some of his guitar playing rubbed off on Dolly. You know he helped her with the tough chords. Chet was that kind of man. Chet and Dolly were from kind of the same place in Tennessee the hills and both knew hard times and both turned out to be true "STARS".

Love this!! I don't think our Queen Dolly Parton gets the credit she deserves! Still going strong at 78! An incredible songwriter, who plays several musical instruments, a wonderful head for business! Dollywood is a testament to that!! Just this past year she released a rock album that did not get the recognition that it deserved, released a book Behind the Seams and released some home goods in Dollar General, getting ready to release a Cookbook with her sister, Rachel called Good Lookin Cooking, a new Album with her Family Smokey Mountain DNA, and just released Dolly Beauty starting with lipsticks. The Woman is loved world wide by millions ♥️🦋♥️

Dolly is a ray of sunshine. Johnny’s question about her Tennessee ancestry got me wondering. I found out awhile back that I had ancesters who migrated through Tennessee. I just looked up any relationship to her parents (which is publicly available information), and discovered that Dolly’s mother is my 7th cousin once removed, making Dolly my 7th or 8th cousin twice removed (as there are more generations on her side of the family tree). However, the common ancestors trace back to Scotland, Ireland, England, Virginia, and Maryland, before our subsequent ancestors both migrated south to the Carolinas for a couple generations (understanding that’s just one branch of our respective family trees). Her line moved on and settled in Tennessee, whereas my line ventured further to the northwest through Tennessee and Kentucky into southern Illinois and the Midwest. It may just be coincidence, but I’ve always felt there was some resonance between Dolly’s plain-spoken and colorful personality and some members of my family who grew up in the country, even if we didn’t inherit her charm, brilliance, and musical gifts.

I don’t think it’s nice of her husband to never watch her performances. You’d think the guy would at least attend one show per tour/album to show support, encouragement, devotion and appreciation to your WIFE. I understand her husband once attended a Hollywood party, something/someone upset him and he declared to never show up again. Be serious. Some jerk stranger upsets you and you take it out on your marriage? Be a man and cheer your ass off at her next show… I feel better.
