Come on Johnny, push on with this now. The wings look great but I need to see you driving round in the UK’s best Fourtrak by the end of the year. The anticipation is killing me 😃

The wings & front panel really came out well. Good to see you spend some time on the 4-Trak & making some more progress. All the best 👍🏻

TBH, as someone who deals with customers rust all day every day, my aim now is to create a corrosion-free base for filler. I no longer aim for "perfect shape" or everything flush - I want everything low, solid & fresh so I can use filler to refine the shape. Purists will moan about how they want it to be solid, flush, shiny & factory - but IRL, not 1 in 100 customers is interested in paying for perfection - all they want is for it to look good. Cutting out the rust, welding in fresh steel - ensuring everything you do is minimum 1mm lower than finished levels, then treating everything with epoxy/Mipa, followed by fiberglass filler, then body-filler, that's the way to go. This guff of striving to get everything metal-finished to factory without filler, it's a hiding to nothing. Nobody will thank you, nobody will care how you got there & nobody will pay for the hours that takes. Smash it low, fill it, make it smooth. Bang on paint. Your wife will glaze over if you try explain why you're making everything factory levels using no filler - and she likes you - imagine how few fecks the customers who barely know you give. I work on cars that come in here with me being the first person to go near them since they rolled off the production line. Tell me why it is I am grinding 5mm of filler off the factory panels? It's because even the factory use filler - that's why. They know, sometimes, you gotta fillet.

What a cracking job you've done, and you make it look so easy, which I know it's not. Are you going to keep this truck for yourself when it's finished, or sell it ? Either way there can't be many of these around that can be described as truly rust free, so this one will probably unique. I know these trucks pretty well, I've owned quite a few over the years, and still own one today. As per usual a great insight into how you restore stuff, a lesson to us all, well done.

Thank you. I’d love to say this is a keeper but knowing how this business goes, once it’s finished I’m sure that a strong offer would persuade me to part with it! I should add though, it would need to be a very STRONG offer given the amount of labour in this one!

I am starting to think painting it white might be pretty nice with a little trim color. Great job all the way around.

I sometimes think about that when laying down the high build, but this one certainly has a date with the original metallic teal colour 😎

Fourtrak is looking awesome suprised you're not tempted to line x the entire body mind you that would affect the asthetics a bit so probably why to be fair and you're making it look better than brand new which is epic love watching these bits have a random question you might answer might not got any idea what classic car you would go for given the choice of one up to 1984 for tax and mot exemption purposes with up to 1.4 L? I know that a bit of a have you got any advice there so it's all good either way have a good one 👍

Thank you! You’re right, I’m going for a virtually standard looking truck (with a few subtle mods and hidden upgrades) so the plan is very much to paint it in the standard Riviera metallic Teal colour 😎 In terms of your question, within those limits and if it were my money, I’d go for a classic mini all day long! A fun, useable, more or less depreciation-proof modern classic that you can take to shows as well as to the shops. Unlikely to cause any jealous sorts to damage it whilst at the same time being a big crowd pleaser at events (if that’s your bag). Depending how handy you are you will need to be certain of the condition of what you’re buying as prices vary madly!

Hey man great work however self etching primer is more for small repair not to cover that much surface, epoxy primer would have been a much better (and pricier) option since it would really prevent the part from rusting in the future
@JohnnyGetsCash

Thanks. I’m hearing more about epoxy primer lately. It’s not something I’ve used before however I’m starting to think it’s the way forward!

@@JohnnyGetsCash on projects like this where rust will be a problem I recommend it, and in the UK in general since the weather is not the famous for keeping your cars in good condition. If you don't want to use epoxy primer just now since it's pricy and has a pretty long cure time you could also use pre-treatment etch wipes and then seal

How about the hardtop, will you use it? Will it be easy to remove?
@JohnnyGetsCash
@JohnnyGetsCash 7 ай бұрын
They can be removed but it’s not a quick job as they’re not really designed for ease of removal / refit. As this vehicle will be getting a blow over on that area, the hardtop will stay in place 👍

Thanks Ian, at the moment I’m unsure when the Fourtrak will be complete but stay tuned for future episodes for progress updates. I do receive a lot of enquiries for the Fourtrak already but I will make a video as and when it is offered for sale so that everyone is kept in the loop!
