The only time I am on the balls of my feet are straight aways with deep ruts and corners. Other than that I am on the sole especially while jumping and landing.

@@Johnny_Hopper If you keep you feet like you showed you can touch the gear lever by accident and catch a false neutral. Not something you want while jumping.
@Johnny_Hopper5 жыл бұрын
Aleks Nestserau on landing you can break your ankles because of the added flection with the joint. I’ve seen it happen to manytimes my friend. But you are right you keep your toes pointed slightly outside the levers so that doesn’t happen.
@nestserau5 жыл бұрын
@@Johnny_Hopper When you jump down on the ground do you land on the balls of your feet or flat footed? Also, when your boots point outwards you won't be able to squeeze the bike well at all. Some people stand on the toes thinking they stand on the balls of their feet. That's not the same.

Trust me. Use the balls of your feet. Acts as a human A kit suspension mod lol. Tilt your feet towards the engine casings and alot of the squeezing will be significantly easier! Breaking and shifting is a conscious effort in order to master optimal timing on the track instead of accidental mis-shifts and wash outs and starving the bike of potential. Oh and when on the gas out of sit down ruts and corners, riding on the balls of the feet gives you better leverage over weighting the outside peg and not sliding back on the seat ! Hope this helps !

Ride on the soles of your feet? No. No. Never. You just eliminated a couple inches of suspension travel, in essence, when you don’t ride on the balls of your feet. Any feedback from the shock is going to go straight up through your body rather than having some flex in your ankles when you stand on the balls of your feet to soak up some energy.

I don't know what type of riding this instruction is for, but Graham Jarvis in hard enduro is always telling everyone to cover the rear brake (AND front brake) for control. While I'd like to stand on the balls of my feet for balance and suspension control, I need the rear brake too much. Maybe it has to do with speeds or motocross? In enduro, it's not just for corner entry.

Not Hating!! just throwing that out there.
@nestserau5 жыл бұрын
You are correct. And it's also much harder to grip your bike with your knees when the boots point outwards. And when you ride on the heels they have to point outwards, otherwise you will be touching foot controls.
@habiby2035 жыл бұрын
Does using the ball of your feet give you better leverage?
@nestserau5 жыл бұрын
Think about this. When you jump from a height down on the ground you land on the balls of your feet. That pretty much answers your question. Anatomically it's better to always stay on balls of your feet while riding.
@Wide0005 жыл бұрын
@@nestserau No... It's better in some situations, like whoops, ruts, corners, and terribly wrong on hard landings. You have to move your feet and adapt to the situation. I am surprised that you are advocating always ridings on the balls of your feet because if you were doing it yourself, you would already have injured your ankles quite a few times and make some more nuances in your advice. It is true that the ankles gives extra leverage, etc., and that it must be used in many situations. But a hard landing on the balls is an immediate trip to the hospital. Great riders vary their feet positioning according to the situation. When you jump on a motorcycle and you are on the balls of your feet, you don't have the ground to stop your heel. When you are on footpegs, if the landing is too hard, the ankles will flex way out of their range and you will get painfully injured.

All the comments about foot position. Simply watch the pros and you will see that they're on the mid-heel more than the toes-balls. The reason is simple because the mid-heel is a stronger, more balanced foot position. If you struggle with armpump or your bike handles poorly, it might be because you're foot position is on the toes, which is susceptible the knees to come forward, which puts much of the weight to be carried by the quads and your arms.

why does everyone say to ride on the balls of your feet?
@Johnny_Hopper5 жыл бұрын
What’s up everyone this is a beginner tutorial on body positioning. Riding on the balls of your feet is a advanced technique. That I personally only use while cornering going through whoops and down really rutted straight aways. If you ride 100 percent of the time on your balls you will break your ankles if you over jump/case anything and you can’t use your controls. I will make more tutorials on moving around the bike. This tutorial is intended to be the the first video a rider watches to get in good habits. Thank you all for the comments and support. Let me know what you want to see next.
