My summer has been too busy to reload and shoot much. Your videos are giving me my fix that I need. I look forward to your reloading and range videos everyday. Thank you.

Buy a box of factory ammo and compare the brass to your reloads. Great series, keep'em coming.

Great series. You may want to test with the first bolt just to see if the extractor profile exerted more side pressure on the cases during extraction.
@Burnoutman7217 жыл бұрын
What was the SD for the CEF223 if you take the first shot out? Seems as if that load was off and the other 4 shots made a good group. Also i agree with everyone else send that barrel back.
@Pest7897 жыл бұрын
I haven't watched past the intro yet, but you can drill and tap a fired case for the cleaning rod thread to make a lap that fits the chamber exactly.
@o2wow7 жыл бұрын
Make a custom chamber polisher. Take the most beat up case and cut a slot in the case head or pound in a Phillips bit into the primer pocket to allow you to turn the case with a drill or electric screwdriver. Coat the case with Flitz or similar metal polish, insert and spin with your drill. Or order a chamber hone and some honing oil from Brownells.

Great job JRB on this series. Nice choice on tomorrow's selection. Every time I Test a new barrel I grab 69 SMK and Varget. It always performs. As far as the barrel, I know your seeing improvement as you work on the chamber, (nice job on that by the way) but that just proves something is not right. If it were me that barrel would go back. I would Let them replace it, that barrel Might have headspace issues as well. You're at minimum charges and to me the whole point of 22 Nosler is basically it's a hot rod .223, and if you can't somewhat hot rod that barrel with hot loads I'm not exactly sure the point of .22 Nosler. Odin I'm sure will repair or replace the barrel, and if that don't work, then I would get my money back and WOA for the win. WOA as you know is so much win for the money. As always, thumbs up on the Vids JRB. Great stuff.

And groups it's hard to tell until you work the loads up
@jacobcole50237 жыл бұрын
Your issue is headspace. If odin works sent you a bolt with the barrel then it is head spaced accordingly. Typical go no go difference is roughly 4 thousandths of an inch. Your fired brass measured 7-8 thousands larger than the unfired brass which could lead to the extraction problems you were having. Your gun was having extraction issues with or without the gas system involved.
@Thorsaxe7777 жыл бұрын
Johnny, as I stated in my last video, We are all behind you in this brother, However, You should not have to be doing anything to that barrel at all. Odin makes barrels and they should say to you without hesitation to Send It Back to them because of quality control issues that they might be having on their assembly line and machines. True? What would you do If you were Odin Gun Works? Maybe there is a disgruntled employee that needs to release from the institution feeling that He/She has no longer anything to offer them at Odin. The bottom line is You Shouldn't have to Do a Thing to the Chamber on that Barrel. You bought it to Shoot it, Not Fix it.

file down raised ejector mark then see if it spins freely in shell holder good. Use those 50 shot brass bump the shoulder back .002-.001.

I would expect these numbers and groups to clean up as the chamber smooths out and the charge weights increase. In my experience, low charge weights are henky
@truebornsonofliberty5547 жыл бұрын
I'd send the barrel back. These low pressure loads/brass still showed extractor marks and shoulders softening signs, although minimal. I'm not sure I'd be comfortable firing max loads (which is the whole point of 22 Nosler), with that barrel. Considering they've agreed to take the barrel back, I'd do that ASAP, so they can inspect for manufacturing defects. I still contend it's out of spec.
@BoltActionReloading7 жыл бұрын
I wonder if the pressure signs indicate that the bullet is not releasing from the necks correctly. Insanely high neck tension = high pressure. (Worse than loading into the lands) Its like you plugged your barrel and lit the powder off. Your ES / SD numbers are so bad it seems that almost has to be the case. This may be a case that you reloading saved you from blowing your face off. Hot factory ammo would probably be insanely worse. Do you have dimensions on the neck of the case to know how much it expanded?

My 16" 300BLK with pistol gas was doing the same thing to the head and rim. I went to a heavier buffer and problem went away.
@longridge30787 жыл бұрын
Try going up a couple weights on your buffer to increase the dwell time of your bolt. It seems your case is still under pressure while the case is being extracted. The bolt face is rotating while the case is still under pressure. That's my guess.
@kssgcasper7977 жыл бұрын
I would think the same, but he was getting the same damage with the gas system off...

Long Ridge This is a really good point. I lightened my buffer for my 300blk subs, and the supers started getting some real messed up cases.
@kssgcasper7977 жыл бұрын
I agree with he others, I wouldn't mess with trying to homeboy engineer a smoother chamber, Odin should have finish reamed/polished the chamber, if it wasn't done they should fix it. I'd either send it back for them to work over or I'd send it back for a refund and then buy that White Oak or Stoner barrel instead to try...
@dotman13347 жыл бұрын
I understand the need / want to load your own, would be an interesting benchmark to try Nosler's loaded 55 or 77 grain factory loads to get another benchmark.
@spyderxtra7777 жыл бұрын
becasue you can tune reloads for the best performance, you never have to worry about finding ammo....oh and his reloads are costing him about $0.30/round instead of $1.25/round for factory ammo.

@sweet65mustang6 жыл бұрын
I know this is old and too late but a person should ALWAYS start out and verify proper function of a new barrel with good factory ammunition. If you have problems they'll blame your reloads. Worse case scenario the barrel is defective and you get injured. Reloads, your a bad reloader and its all on you. Factory ammo, they're liable.
@gunman90907 жыл бұрын
I know you never thought of it but maybe just try some factory Ammo

Send that barrel back. Let Odin make it right. You're at minimum loads, getting pressure signs, and you're not getting any performance that you couldn't get out of 223. I don't doubt that 22 nosler is capable of awesome performance when it works right, but it's pretty obvious that your system isn't working right.

You mention damaged brass at higher mv. That has the smack of headspace problems. If your headspace is off, you may not blow your face off but you will never get precision.

Why not purchase some quality off the shelf Ammo and do a comparison to your reloads? That should provide you with a more definitive answer as to what the issue is.
