Something I did for my diesel heater I have on my bus is I made it have SAE connectors and I put a splitter on the heater and start it on a deep cycle battery and once it gets going the glow plug is off and you can run it on a small solar generator at that point until you go to shut it off then you’ll need to plug in the deep cycle to shut it down
@AverageOverlanderАй бұрын
So you start it off of a battery then you plug the splitter into your power station (then) disconnect from the battery, am I understanding this correctly?

The barrel end on the intake is important when you’re camping as it keeps mice and other things from crawling up into the intake tube
@jamescampolo782414 күн бұрын
Adding the reducer may speed up the air but it adds restriction so it is less efficient. Instead of reducing down to 3", you allow the air to flow freer if you went up to 4" which is also common in dryer venting. In your air measurements, you are only measuring air speed, not volume. With the reducer, you will see a drop in overall volume with the 3" tube. Since the end result on both of the heaters being similar with a 3" output tells me that the blower is the same on both.

Great videos, I have a couple of jackery 500's old generation that power up the diesel heaters very well. Had to loan one to a buddy who had bought the 1000w version but it would not power the heater. Maybe this could be a video idea with as many reviews as you do you could do one for your viewers and find out which units will run diesel heaters. Thanks for sharing.

I have the tool box version ( older model) works well but pump is loud. I used it in a cargo / camp trailer 8.5 x 20 hunting for 2 weeks. It is vented out thru side of trailer. It is best to wire directly to a 12 volt battery I used the a/c adapter with a 2000 watt inverter and 3 100ah batteries but drained the battery fairly quickly. You will definitely need ear plugs to sleep.
@TheCornucopiaProject-bd5jkАй бұрын
I guess I’m having the older model. I don’t think the noise is a problem as long as it’s mounted outside. I like the app but prefer a remote display. The ducting has been, is and remains an issue.

Great video, thank you! Question please....Ill be using this heater up in a Roof Top Tent, can you recommend a long hose (10 foot) that wont cause the diesel heater to throw an over heat code? That's the issue I had with my older diesel heater I bought this unit and I'm hoping I won't have the same problem. Thank you in advance. And is there a certain type of diesel fuel that is better than others?
@johnnysweekendsАй бұрын
If you can find a super long 3.5 inch hose that will help. Verses reducing and being long it will cause it to work harder. But also if running at max they may also be part of the problem so maybe try 80%
@monkeylover46425Ай бұрын
I'm assuming since this heater is so efficient I'll be running it on low most of the time through the night I think I'll just find a 4-inch 10 ft hose. Thxs for the help😊

I have a question. So it ran good on the Eco low river 2? Because I have that same powerbank. also I want to put this in my van, but it doesn't look like it has an intake tube, dont i need that if im in a van with the unit in the van also?
@johnnysweekendsАй бұрын
It does have an intake tube as shown in the beginning I just didn’t use it. And yes the river 2 worked but I honestly would get a bigger unit as it’s not very much watt hours.

How does temperature mode work? Is the ambient temperature measured at the unit, remote, or is the controller on the unit possibly removable? I wanted to mount outaide of shed and use the temperature mode for inside somehow. Any suggestions? I see you had it in the rv. How do you keep the temperature inside constant, or do you? Lol thanks!
@johnnysweekends10 күн бұрын
Temp is measured on the intake side. So if the whole thing is out I don’t see it working well. It would use the locker temp verses inside my Rv temp

I have 2 of these only the fuel tank is on the outside, they both soot up vary badly after a dozen or so start ups . Then they have to be all torn apart to clean out and being inside the all in one box makes that job a real pain in the butt. I don't know if it's a hcalory thing or if all of them do it but I definitely wouldn't buy a hcalory again.
@johnnysweekendsАй бұрын
Where are you using yours? Altitude ? Also what is the normal speed setting…2…3..?? Thanks just looking for feedback.
@edolson1698Ай бұрын
@johnnysweekends hello , I live near Seattle and have also used it in the cascade mountains so from sea level to about 5000 ft and had the problem in both elevations but mostly at home. I mostly run it on the highest setting but if run at a lower settings I'll crank it all the way up for 10 minutes before shutting down.
@johnnysweekendsАй бұрын
@edolson1698 does it have the elevation setting to lean out the fuel burn ?
@edolson1698Ай бұрын
@@johnnysweekends I do not know, the instruction manual was a complete joke, do you have any pointers for that type of adjustment?
@johnnysweekendsАй бұрын
@edolson1698 that one doesn’t say it has altitude adjustment so it could be running rich at the higher elevations so running on high should help but the draw back is waisting fuel Unfortunately like everything a year or two and everything gets updated to work better. Most people have soot problems from extended low gear/settings so running on high should help but maybe 10 mins isn’t enough. I normally run at around 50% due to a larger area

Hey Johnny i love your videos, i have been hooked recently since i'm looking for a generator, sorry question is off topic but i need to ask, do you think a 1000w generator, 1500w peak can run a 8,000 btu window ac ? I Just saw a deal on a powersmart 1,500w generator and i was wondering if it could do it because it is the only thing i need it for, the ac is a frigidaire window ac, label says 680w but im not sure if it could handle it, would appreaciate it you can tell me or what you think, thanks in advance, great videos btw.

2 things, 1 why not cut a slit in the door to show the fuel tank and the other thing is I don't think I can forgive the fact that they put exhaust right right by the heat output but I guess the did it so it would reduce the chance of the air intake sucking in the exhaust.

@johnnysweekends18 күн бұрын
Electrical is the number one reason RVs catch fire and burn. 95% of RV fires are due to poor electrical, from wires shifting and moving while the unit goes down the road, to poor craftsmanship to overloading circuits. The diesel heaters contribute to less than 1% of rv fires. When used properly they are very safe, as long as you also dont buy the cheapest $80 heater out there. Diesel heaters are also mounted in millions of trucks cabs. No matter what I say, I cant fix someone who doesn’t know what they are doing or how to use or install equipment properly.

It’s a crappy heater. Smells like heavy exhaust leaks mixed into the blower. Hopefully this is just part of the residual burn in, but other diesel heaters don’t have this issue

@johnnysweekendsАй бұрын
Tons of people care about the sound. People hate the loud ticking in small spaces. And if you watched the data then yes it works and heats the space. Diesel heaters are only getting more popular.
