Basically it’s a video of hypothetical problems that may occur. There is no better generators then Honda , period. If you want the least amount of problems from your generator and a solid 10 years of trouble free performance, buy Honda. Yes it costs more , but so does everything that’s worth it, that lasts. Otherwise buy HF crap or some other brand for less and don’t complain about reliability and longevity.
@johnnysweekends Жыл бұрын
Again ask enough Honda owners and they are not exactly pleased with the newest models as they are not as problem free as they used to be. If you use items hard and all day everyday then a gas Honda will probably be the best bet, but if its a once in a while buy a dual fuel unit from wen or champion or similar and it will do what most people need. Read comments in my channel or other channels. Now sure there are plenty of good units out there but is Honda still the best…or does Yamaha actually out last. I have friends with those and read on others and those seem to just run for ever. Super heavy though.

If you have such good service from Honda generators, that's fine and your business, I have 6 non-honda generators with one being over 25 years old, it will crank on the first pull and runs great. They get regular service and run time weekly, but no splash lubricated generator will last like a pressure lubricated system with an oil filter. Twenty thousand hours is not uncommon on some portable diesel generators before they need an overhaul. Johnny is a good guy just putting this information out, it's up to the viewer to make their own decisions, and spend their money the way they want. Make some videos on your Honda's we would love to see them, best regards!

I'm not mechanically inclined but found out through need to work on the Honda I own and it really was not that difficult . I own the 2200i and the companion. One of them worked great and than during one of my maintenance cycles I do every 2 or 3 months I could not get one of them to start, even though I used non-ethanol fuel and ran the carb dry like all Honda do. The carb is easy to access and to clean. I then decided to convert both of them to propane. The kits were expensive but well worth it and also for a person not mechanical like me were easy to install. I've had them both for a few years and would never consider buying a larger heavier one. As an older man the time will come that portability is key and heaving two portable generators that I can carry is key, even though I have to make two trips if I am going to parallel connect them. Good information given for the consumer that is not aware or researching.

@@johnnysweekends Many generators in the 2200 W to 2500 watt have a smaller displacement engine than the HONDA 2000. For example champion 2200 and iGen 2200 Westing house have 79CC and 80CC engines respectively. The Honda 2000 has a 94CC engine. The 2200 Honda has a 121CC. That is one of the reason many cheaper models generators are not able to handle bigger loads, due to voltage drop.

Bought our Ai Power 2300 (Yamaha engine) from Costco on sale $400 and another $70 to ship to us in Hawaii. Runs our whole home 120/125v power just fine. Run only ethanol free fuel, change the oil every 100 hours and run it one a month for 2-3 minutes. Runs like a champ. It's all just application dependent. I don't camp with a generator and I'm a mechanic by trade. The carb generators are by far my preference. Serviceability is paramount. I can easily make gaskets and clean a carb in my own shop. The complication of the fuel injection system doesn't make sense for my application. Now, if you're running your generator all the time and traveling with it the 3200 may make a whole bunch of sense. I would personally go with 2xeu3000is before I went with one eu7000 just because I don't want the fuel injection mess. I would at minimum have one extra injector and fuel pump for each generator if I did have an FI system. It's all to taste.
@johnnysweekends11 ай бұрын
Agree, a carb you can at least get to work if you know what your are doing. Gasket making, easy! And yea the eu7000 FI model is problematic and I would avoid. Im with you. Cars are completely different… FI injection in this world is still relatively new. If the pump goes out or injector gets plugged you’re done. That’s it…. Nothing because it’s a single cylinder. Not a 4-6-8 cylinder that can run with a plugged injector and get you home. If yours breaks in the field a carb version is so much easy to fix a pump or clean a carb. Electrical is different. Plus you don’t have to split the otter case and more on eu2200i or even eu3000is In the city, construction, home back up where you can get it repaired sure.

After 45 days the replacement carb arrived. All my generators are serviced by professionals per schedule including driving fuel and etc. I initially liked Genmax for the perceived value for the features. But now all these features are just gimmicks to me as if they can't have a reliable generator then at least Honda have better after sales service and parts availability. I do know Honda quality took a dive since some of their genetic are no longer made in Japan but perhaps China as well. Don't get me wrong the Firman and Ryobi including my Allpowers R4000 solar generator are made in China but they have great after sales response and part availability. Just taken delivery of two generators - one is a Honda 3200 like this one, and the other is a PowerKing Petrol Power Generator 4.38kVA 3500W - both have just arrived - the Powerking with fresh oil and fuel just wouldn't start - I have to use EasyStart spray to get it going. The Honda was fuelled and oiled from brand new, and I went to turn the engine over with the pull cord just to circulate the oil so I was being gentle - it fired halfway through the first pull and ran up to speed! The Powerking sounds like a lawnmower like you'd expect, the Honda positivally purrs - Like compairing a Lada to a Lexus - OK so it cost 5 times as much - but I'm glad I bought it - just a shame Honda are not more reasonable on pricing! I did buy an electric start Hyundai some years ago - it was a heap of trouble then failed after four months - my off grid friends Honda EU10i is still going aftter 15 years - Go Honda! :)

It's one of those situations where when you add more tech, there are just more things to go wrong. On a fundamental level it is unavoidable. However I do agree that Honda isn't what it used to be in some situations... I picked up a EU2200I yesterday. And it ran like crap right out of the box. Disappointing when the predator 2000 we've had for 3 years runs like a top... But I do still trust it to be better in the long run once this is resolved. For the dual fuel, I get it. I also don't. Propane isn't as easy to source around me outside of exchanges. So the 15lbs for 23$ is convenient in a pinch for sure but most all my appliances (other than the trailer) are natural gas now... So for me I'd want a tri-fuel like my 7000 generac I converted and had for over 20 years now. And it is one of the few situations where it is another part but isn't adding a real failure point but rather redundancy which is nice. And just messing around with the few I've played with in the 2000 watt range, the Honda does seem to have the best operation by far as far as voltage stability under load and maintaining load. The predator really struggled with window A/C units on startup where the the honda (others of the same model, not this one... yet) just purr along... So I am pretty sold on it being "better" but it is a situation where if it can happen to me, it does. Thanks for the video!

Interesting overview. Still have my Honda EU2200i with dual fuel conversion I bought the tail end of lockdown that I only use about 300 hours per winter. I just use petrol with it now for convenience, but interesting that propane bypasses the carb so that might be an option if it ever fails. There are just so many medium sized generators available now at reasonable prices that anything approaching an expensive repair would not be worth it.

My 3200i is running good again, wife said "maybe loosen cap" yeah, okay dear. Not sure if thats why its running smoothish again, or if it was the verbal threat of throwing it overboard. But it did get me to take gas cap apart, 4pc's seem to have no venting, and dumbfounded on what the little black jiggly part is, or does. Muffler bearings were okay, rain sensor seams to be okay too. Is this a pressurized tank?

Not pressured but there is a vent down by the charcoal canister. Parts list or parts diagram shows it

Honda is pricing themselves out of the market considering all the new reliable generators that have hit the market in the last few years. I have had a Champion 3300 for the last 15 years and it still runs like a champ and never had an issue with it and paid half of what a Honda was costing at the time.

I bought a Honda, and, compared to other options that my friends own and run, I think the extra cost gave me a better, quieter unit.

@peterpulpitpounder which unit did you buy ?
@peterpulpitpounder Жыл бұрын
Hello there. I bought the EU220i. Yes, it cost a bit more than some of the other options available, but it "seems" to trump the others in terms of quality, noise, etc. I just wanted to buy something "once" and be done with it, something that would last a good many years. But, as it has been mentioned, perhaps other brands have caught up with Honda in the quality department. I don't know. I do like the Bluetooth feature, and I especially like the switch option that allows the unit to drain/burn the gas in the carburetor for the sake of long-term storage, etc. It seems easy to work on, etc. She's a done deal now, and I hope the unit lasts for many years, at least for my purposes. :)

Dual Fuel is the only way to go. Whether it's daily use or every other year in a storm, Propane will almost always work, it does not spoil in the can like Gas does. It also does not foul the plugs or engine oil like gasoline (Petrol) does. The only reason I would I would ever use gasoline is simply because of availability of the fuel. And Propane has the instant advantage of me not having to try to claim a refund on the Road Taxes from Gasoline.

Hondas make good generators but not worth the stupidly high price compared to other generators. I own a Westinghouse iGen 4500 DF generator. Puts out way more wattage, has electric start, and is dual fuel ready. Most importantly I only paid $790 for it on sale. While it doesn’t have Honda reputation, it’s still a good proven generator. No way no how that Honda is worth 3.5 x the price.

A common mistake is leaving the unit in the box. When the storm hits, oil it up, fuel and away we go......only to blow up a few days later....well out of warranty. My suggestion, oil & gas it up, connect a space heater , run 2 tanks of fuel and 2 oil changes. NOW, YOU'RE READY. If you do not change the engine oil at least once during the first 5 hours, you just cut your engine life in half.

@johnnysweekends5 ай бұрын
Most fuel efficient on the market ? Where did you get this data? It is factual ? Did you test against other competing units with approximately the same size engines or any other units at all under controlled loads measuring the same amount of fuel and calculating the amount of energy produced from that fuel? Or you just going off of marketing and your experience of using one unit and not comparing anything else. I’m not bashing or discrediting you, I’m asking the same questions people will expect of me if I made that exact statement. Marketing and saying most fuel efficient is easy when it’s the only unit in that class. With nothing else to compare you are going off what “marketing tells you” and that’s a horrible way to buy stuff. Honda is still a great product, but this unit is a fail for the price. $1999 max. That’s all this unit should ever be priced at. Not $2799 or more. No dual fuel, no remote start, small tank, low power output for the size and price. Now I dont need remote start or even electric, but for that price….it should have electric at least. But again most fuel efficient, I think I would be chewed up if I didn’t have any data to back that. Hope ya understand

My eu3000i has about 3,000 hours on it. Only needed a couple spark plugs, oil, and air filters (and some carb cleaner after only having ethanol fuel for a few years). My 2000 has about 2,500 hours, and another 2200 has around 1,500 hours. Not even a blip. Literally not a single one of them has even stuttered or dropped a single RPM running loads. The Yamaha engines are good too, but I'd stay away from most of the generac and westinghouse garbage - its all re-branded misc chinese trash anymore. Champion surprisingly has good support though, even though their generators are cheap chinese trash, but at least the parts are cheap and the units serviceable. Buy once, cry once.

If ur not mechanically inclined you buy one and if it breaks down and too expensive to fix you buy a new one. If you are mechanically inclined you will buy the generator used/broken from the other guy and fix it. Just because Honda doesn’t make a part that doesn’t mean you can’t fix it specially electronic parts like on a circuit board most parts are VERY universal. 9 times out of 10 a problem on a circuit board is a cracked solder joint.

@johnnysweekends11 ай бұрын
It depends what ya need. The 3000is is big and heavy but its a tank and most run forever. At least the older ones from what I see. I sold mine as I couldn’t buy an inverter board for it anymore if it went out according to parts finder. My year was DC for some reason. And i dont now if others would work with out modifications. The 3200i is nice. $2799 nice…? Defiantly not. But if you could grab it for $2000 in the box or a little less open box then it starts to be something to consider. It’s not as quiet as the 2200i but still Honda quiet. Plus i have been more into just using propane now. And cant figure out why Honda doesn’t do a dual from the factory.
