The recent drama around JoJo Siwa on TikTok has me thinking a lot about what happened with Noah and TikTok in general more lately. Disclaimer, I have no feelings at all about JoJo. Don't know much about her other than she's been all over my socials the past few weeks due to this new song and music video she recently put out. Today the drama revolves around the original "Karma" song and music video, written and performed by Brit Smith, getting posted online. This has led to TikTok going to war with JoJo Siwa, claiming she lied about writing the song. That she stole the song, etc. The problem? She didn't do either of those things. She never claimed to be "scared while writing" Karma. She explicitly said she was scared of Karma-because its lyrics were outside her usual brand. She also didn't steal the song. She bought it legitimately as a lot of people in the music industry do. But those two facts have gone ignored on TikTok, because the facts aren't as funny or scandalous as the memes and rage bait people can generate. Then of course, when JoJo posts a video obviously upset and crying about the hate she's gotten online today, those same people lambast her over being a rich woman crying in her expensive car. Ring any bells? Noah Schnapp has been driven off of social media at this point. Years of TikToks have been privated, his KZbin has gone quiet, and he's even taken down most of his Instagram. All in response to hate he got from some bad internet actors who took a strongly-worded post in support of Israeli hostages AND innocent Palestinians and turned it into a claim that he supported the wholesale genocide of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. Just like JoJo, people invented stories because obviously what he actually said wasn't spicy enough for virality. They claimed he laughed at dead Palestinian children. Ask them to show you where he did this, though, and they'll show you a picture of him smiling while people WHO ARE NOT HIM in the background have "Zionism is sexy" stickers on or in their hands - which is not the same thing. Not even close. They've lied and said he harasses people of color on the set of Stranger Things. Every report we have from people who work with him, though, says he's a sweetheart. See the trend? I am begging anyone who has managed to read this far to stop using TikTok as a news source. Like any video app, every single person who posts on it has a slant, a bias, a narrative, an agenda. For most, they just want attention, likes, and views and they know what trends - baseless rage, memes, and cruelty in the name of fun. Many of them like to dress up as activists fighting for the little guy, while they themselves are wealthy creators who are doing absolutely nothing to solve the problems they claim to care about. Defend anyone they rage against and you're just "defending rich people." Trust me. You're not doing the working class any favors by being vicious c***s online. You're not "taking on the rich" by lying blatantly and making your lies go viral. You're just a terrible person with selfish intentions. Be better than that.

I think the thing that urks me is that she wears "edgy" like a costume. Like it's so clear that she's just playing this like a part in order to escape being seen as a child star rather than actually finding her real identity as an adult.
@Matty-vy2px6 ай бұрын
Bruh exactly. I think there’s something to be said for confronting the shadow- former child stars in particular need to do this as they are basically only allowed to exist as an objectified image and are denied the nuance that gives them humanity. So a “bad girl” phase makes sense. This particular attempt is so manufactured that it lacks any of the growth that such a phase normally brings. Well adjusted people have usually done some level of work to confront their own negative feelings or “darkness” and this, like so much media right now, has no genuine substance and was made with safety in mind. I’m not saying she should do anything outrageous- pushing the envelope for the sake of being edgy is also “safe.” True daring involves honesty and modern media follows the same formulas over and over. More annoyed with Jojo’s team for telling her exactly what to do and not allowing her any real input.
