Oh, I caught the vid so fresh, this is some good content! Ragnorok with 6 strength is 6 * 5 + 30 and then doubled again!

Also Wreath of Flame adds 5 damage to each of the attacks. Akabeko, similarly, adds 8 damage to each of the attacks (if Ragnarok is played as the first attack). And Ragnarok upgraded does 6 attacks at 6 damage each. So when the stars align on it, Ragnarok is a _super nasty_ nuke. Imagine a 1st turn Akabeko, Blasphemy, Wreath of Flame, Upgraded Ragnarok play (requires 5 energy). That'd be 6 (base) + 8 (Akabeko) + 5 (Wreath of Flame) = 19 damage * 3 = 57 damage done to 6 random targets which is 342 damage total... for a turn 1 play. Of course, with Blasphemy, it'd better wipe the board or you're dead next turn... but still, even with Crescendo (with an upgrade, that only requires 4 total energy for the synergy), that's 228 total damage for a first turn play. That all said, I can certainly see why on it's own Ragnarok doesn't seem to be too strong. It deals less than 10 damage per energy cost on the face, it's just that it scales very well with things that increase per-hit damage (e.g. strength as you noted, wreath of flame, Akabeko).

Not related to the video, but thanks for getting me back into playing watcher. I really didn't understand her deck for a while, but finding this series through the algorithm put me back in the mood. Before, I had all my characters at ascension 14 and climbing, whereas watcher was literally half that. Thanks to this and some reddit posts I think I understand her a lot better. Damage seems to be key, and then energy gain through means one way or another to build single large damage turns, preferably early in fights. Should have been obvious because that's how the other characters do best too, but apparently it took me months of refusing to play her and feeling like she was poorly designed before I realized I was just stupid. Guess that's how it goes. Just got two wins back to back so I'm on ascension 9. Cheers NL, new sub btw.

NL, I do think you're seriously underrating Lesson Learned. Even in this run where you had Apotheosis, Lesson Learned would have given you some extra permanent upgrades which would have been really useful in case you drew Apotheosis late! Especially as you had the relic that doesn't let you smith.

The trick is, you don't really aim for any synergies at the start. At first, you just try to pick cards that'll help you survive, and once you have a few you already got stuff to build on.

Just start out picking the best card after each combat, then after maybe the first boss fight and beginning of the second floor start to evaluate what cards would go good with what you have so far. You should never try to force a synergy unless you get very lucky. (Example being with the silent if you start the game taking all the poison synergy cards trying to force a poison build the game might not ever give you any other poison cards after like the first or second floor, so don’t force it)

Stop sleeping on Scry lol. That scry power particularly. It helps tamp down a big deck and helps you even further focus a small deck. You literally started the episode saying how good scry was. Flurry of Blows and Weave are completely free damage if you have a scry or stance heavy deck unless you have normality and velvet choker.
