Call the movie jester then, and disassociate it from the already established comic book ip. maybe then the social commentary idea your suggesting would have some weight, but don't piggyback off an ip that attracts an audience attached to it, then back pedal so hard because of backlash that you believe you could get away with pretending from the start the intent was to subvert expectations. If this was 2 movies about a clown called jester same plot without any batman connection i think the point you just made would be sick because the payoff wouldve been uncertain from the jump. But you cant give it credit for it being both while ending up being neither. - minus the musical shit i aint ina all that
@kostantza12 ай бұрын
Well the movie didn't care for certain, since it treated him as a stepping stone for the "actual" Joker and denying him any sort of final self-realization. Not to mention, most people were actually very interested in Arthur, and would have liked to have gotten more of a look inside his head and have him have an actual conclusion.
@MusicLover-my6fo2 ай бұрын
Arthur Fleck in Joker - Can you introduce me as Joker? Aurthur Fleck in Joker Folie a Deux - I'm not the "Joker" I'm just Arthur Fleck. I swear, it's like Todd Philips wanted to punish the audience for liking the first film. James Gunn said on Threads that Joker Folie a Deux isn't a part of DC Studios and I'm very glad for that because now James Gunn knows that Todd Phillips can't cook.
@MusicLover-my6fo2 ай бұрын
Willem Dafoe gave Todd Phillips a better Joker pitch than what we actually received; his pitch was having someone be inspired by Arthur's Joker, but this Joker would be slightly different. It's like having two different Jokers in the same film, like simplifying Geoff Johns' Batman The Three Jokers with Arhtur's Joker being the criminal and the other being the comedian. But at the end of the film, Arthur is the clown because the inmate calls him a "disappointment" as Arthur lays dying realizing that his life was nothing but a bad joke. Ironically, Todd Phillips took Willem Dafoe's pitch but made it completely suck.
@Phantomiam2 ай бұрын
There is something interesting about, like, if there was a Joker imposter. So it would be possible to have not dueling Jokers but someone that says to be the Joker that isn't the Joker. And that kind of opens up the possibility of an interesting story, particularly if you had Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker, and then you had someone who was either imitating or riffing off what he did Exactly what Dafoe said.
@Phantomiam2 ай бұрын
Dafoe’s Joker most likely would have had different beliefs and different motivations for what Joker should be which would have led to a stand off between the two but this would have definitely been better for Joker 2 and I’m surprised Todd Philips didn’t do this 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️

Glad i read the wiki, the whole writing sounds awful. Todd was definitely trying to piss off fans of the original film. Those fans who helped make it become successful. Joker 1 was definitely a great character study kind of film. It didn't really encourage any kind of violence. It spotlights the dangers of neglected mental illness and how society does little to address it. Joker 2 seems like it's more focused on trying hard to be clever and thematic than saying anything meaningful.

Omg, I realized exactly what Arthur's regression in personality reminded me of! It's the undoing of Sansa's character development in season 5 of GoT, just so she could get abused more and relearn all the lessons she'd learned over 4 seasons, to justify her role in the narrative. And the end is as if Ramsay murdered Sansa just as she'd come into her own for good and left without any consequence whatsoever. No wonder it felt so despicable and unsatisfying.

Harley being smarter than Joker actually worked very well in the Telltale Batman game. In that, Joker/John Doe is mostly weak and pathetic with occasional outbursts, and Harley is the more dominating gang leader who keeps him wrapped around her finger. So as John starts to evolve into Joker, Harley starts finding herself scared and outmatched by what he's becoming. It's quite good.

As time passes, Burton's interpretation of Batman looks better on an almost daily basis. These incarnations are just wrong and terrible. Burton would've made a wildly entertaining solo Joker movie -- but I wouldn't want to see this character without Batman in any case. Batman balances it out. There's no sympathy for Joker because he's evil and a liar. It's not that hard to figure out. These subversive movies trying to humanize killers are ridiculous. The only way it could be handled really cool is toying with this notion that he's an unreliable narrator and just going into surreal expressionist vignettes like a Burton movie or something. This joker is just a punk that deserves a beating from Batman.
@IIIII2822 ай бұрын
Well that's the thing about killers - they're all humans. It's just that being human is unspokenly equaled to "being good". For which reason exactly, I don't know.
@j-5552 ай бұрын
@@IIIII282 What you said makes no sense. Not sure what you're trying to say. What characterizes a killer is the loss of their humanity or perhaps the lack of any in the first place. Our humanity is based on empathy for one another. So obviously, a killer is not considering the pain and fear of their victim. The stupid joker movie is about someone abused by a city that lacks empathy and compassion becoming corrupted i.e. losing a sense of empathy for others. (The impetus for the "movement" was the subway slaying, leading to mass riots that clearly affected innocent people.) It's written manipulatively so that you feel sorry for him and think he's justified, but in reality most killing is senseless and done for pleasure or gain.
@IIIII2822 ай бұрын
@@j-555 well all what happened in this "stupid" movie was confirmed to be the way it happened. And the riots were of a good chunk of gothamites themselves. It's clearly not of a doer fault the way the people do perceive their doings. Btw, all killers, from robbers to dictators, are humans.

Main point you’re making is that you want to see an original joker instead of seeing a common mentally ill person. But here’s the point a lot of you have been missing about both joker movies: every version of joker makes it their own. Also, this joker is less about trying to rule all of Gotham to his finest, and more about that he’s a broken person and needs help. That’s the tragedy of this joker, that’s the sadness of Arthur’s story is that he has never had a normal life. And hey, I’d like to see a musical joker, because that’s actually apart of the jokers personality, is craziness, out of the ordinary. Sometimes id like to stop seeing the same old thing, with the bombs and car chases, and see something like that instead. It’s less highlighted with the Batman, and I think part of the point with this version, is to teach people about the real struggles that anyone can have, and Arther is one of them. They add a dazzle touch of joker, and more about real world problems into it. I find it fascinating, on top of a musical note. People are gonna hate me for this, but I’m excited to see it!
