This song he is dancing to was made by a man who has been a convicted pedophile in not one but two countries of having sex with girls UNDER the age of 13

@@ericbrooks5117 Yes, and to my understanding, they did not earn anything from the song, as they had to sell the rights to it. Unfortunately in this world, people are capable of doing both great and terrible things. A perfectly good song shouldn't be shunned because it's creator did wrong. Were that the case, I'm sure there would be many works of art blinked out of existence as a result.

In my opinion, this was an excellent decision for the score. It's a song you associate with winning. But it's also associated with the greasy and untrustworthy people of this world like Gary Glitter. This song is associated with not just winning, but also acceptance. This song is you and your tribe, cheering yourselves on from one victory to the next. Joker spends this whole movie profoundly alone, and failing at everything he does. In this scene, he has transcended his loneliness, and embraced who he is. The irony is that, now that no longer cares about human connections, and he no longer cares if he succeeds at anything, he is free to go on to become a nihlistic leader of a successful criminal syndicate. The Joker that fights Batman is never alone, and his competence is formidable. Some people complained that the Joker in this movie was inept, but to me, it all made sense. This movie shows the inept, lonely, and frustrated Arthur Fleck. He is not yet the Joker. He becomes the Joker after he embraces nihilism. This is the pivotal scene that shows that transformation.

@@Lazy_Sundaeif the inclusion of a single song, lasting less than 2 minutes of the hours long movie was enough to ruin the entire thing for you, then you’re way too uptight. Yeah, Gary Glitter is fucking disgusting, but the song he made is great. If every artist or creator that did criminal acts was just completely carved out of history along with all of their creations, we’d be in a much more primitive world; you can enjoy art without respecting the artist or their other actions. Why should the music be forbidden? It’s only music. That’s as crazy as banning all of Elton John’s music because he was gay. The music was great and made the charts when it came out in the 1970’s. That was British Glam Rock and is in the same category of rock music as Suzy Quattro and many other great artists. Banning the music is a senseless act because Gary Glitter is now an old man and most likely has enough money to last him the rest of his life. Banning the music only punishes the music fans who bought the music because they liked it. You want them to ban Freddy Mercury’s music because he died of AIDS?

The movie is an artistic masterpiece. What made it even funnier was how many capeshit fans it suckered in to seeing it. The story is hard to look at. It’s not a happy movie. It’s meant to confront. It’s the story of the scapegoat. Scapegoated just family, “friends” and even publicly. The point of change, that is his descent down the stairs, easily relatable to a “katabasis” that is the Ancient Greek trio the underworld Odysseus, Heracles, Demeter, Persephone, amongst many others performed. They return wiser. When joker goes down the stairs dancing, what you have on display is his soul. He has reclaimed it and loves it. He’s rather live one day in the sun treasuring it than let someone else step all over it. Powerful film.
