they always do, and i think that's what makes it work so well. it's infectious, and it doesn't feel like some tv hacks just getting through a poorly written bit, which you get sometimes on other talk shows, particularly ones where the host is called James (or some variation thereof)

I think it's partly the collecting the jokes and partly the 'better do the thing sporadically instead of doing it every night and overdoing it thus getting annoying'-thing.. I love it but if it would be done every night.. I don't know.. keeping it sporadically makes you want more of it and anticipating it more. :) just my opinion though

Even if it was a weekly or fortnightly thing that could be enough. If we had a sense of how often to expect it the anticipation could build better. I can't remember how long ago the last one was. It does not work as well as a random surprise. Then it's gone too quickly. :)
