It was a long wait but I'm really happy with how the pods came out. The welder took forever and then you know I had to get them painted! What do you think, are pods a good upgrade?

My buddy who runs a charter fishing boat glued the door handle to the boat on with 5200 and it got extensive use for years and never came loose or broke in anyway. If you get a good bond and cure that stuff is incredible.

I have a 12 foot boat very similar to a jon. I have a 15hp Honda on the back of her right now and she flies. The only issue is I have to put weight up on the front of the boat to keep the front end down. These sound like they would fix my need for weight in the front

New subscriber; I love your videos and appreciate you sharing your knowledge . I’m getting a 14” jonboat with a 9.9 mercury electric start 4 stroke in the back (122 lbs) Do you think there’s any benefit to adding pods for me?

Thanks for subscribing! Pods can definitely help a 14ft with weight balance, even a single rider in the back with an outboard, battery and gas tank can weigh it down. They're not something you have to add immediately so you can always see how it does on the water and add them later if you feel they will help.

What is the best spot to put the transducer after the pods are added

I'm actually working that out myself, my plan is to mount it to the side of the pod. That way it will be most protected and the water should be less turbulent.

They come with very good instructions, make sure to follow the section about the rise. Imo I would get them welded and have the welder follow the instructions.

I would add a s Kreen fuel tank sealer to the new pods. Aluminum can get corrosion holes w time-

Right now I have them painted with enamel, I'm not sure I would be able to swirl that around in the inside but maybe a coating on the bottom in the interior would be helpful as well. I'll look into it! Thanks

What's the gauge of the pods? Doesn't look as thick as the boat's aluminum and I've heard that adding pods makes your steering different like it'll be a longer sweeping turn. Is that true?

I couldn't tell you the gauge, they are Beavertail so they might have specs somewhere. I don't feel impeded with turns -- another criticism I heard before the pods was that it made reversing difficult but I didnt experience that either. Properly installed I've had nothing but great experiences with them.

Thanks for this video, it helped me decide to get pods on my 16ft mod v jon boat. I have a couple questions though. Firstly, did you experience any porposing? I mounted mine like the photo suggests for semi v boats with the pod being horizontal to top of transom. The instructions say a 1/2 inch rise, which exists on the sides but then as you get to the keel because of the semi v shape they are 3+ inches from the bottom at the back of the pods. I'm experiencing porposing and can only operate full trim down. As soon as I trim up at all I'm bouncing around. Secondy, where do you mount your transducer after adding pods? The only time I experience porpoising was when my motor was too low, you may need to raise your motor up or adjust its height up or down with the pods keeping your transom higher in the water now. I mounted my transducer behind the engine.

Did you mount them level with the top of the transom like in the photo provided by beavertail or do they angle slightly downward towards the keel following the slight v shape of the hull? Thanks

@@thupertramp The welder angled it with the hull when it was supposed to be level but the angle was so slight i doublt it made much of a difference either way.

That would be cutting it close but if you go on their website or listing they have the dimensions, you can size it out and see if you'll have the room

what can you do for side to side stability?

Realistically not much. If you want to add floatation foam to the outside of the hull or kaya sponsons you could achieve it but the former will come with a reduction in performance and the latter would need to be deployed as needed. You can google "boat collar" for an example of what I mean. In practice and the long run though, the best option is to just sell your boat and buy one with a large floor width.

You would need to measure your transom and see how much room you need for your outboard to turn. There are measurements on the listing (amzn.to/3dBTdMX) for how wide and tall they are. Measure that out and make sure it won't interfere and you should be good to go.

Did those pods slow you down ? I’m thinking on adding them to 1436 Longtail boat. You think they will slow me down if I mount them correctly?

If mounted correctly they shouldn't slow you down, its the angle that matters most. I didn't notice any speed loss, my speed was right in line for a 25hp and a 1648.

@@mvboutdoors from your knowledge do you Know if it’s okay to mount float pods about 1 inch up from the bottom ? The back of my Transom is 1/4 plate but it doesn’t cover entire thing. So it will be a slight gap on bottom. Just didn’t know if effect anything

Did the pods hurt your top speed any?

I didn't test before and after to know but the top speed is consistent with the engine and hull size. If it did, it would have maybe been 1-2mph. 26-27mph for a 1648 built up with a 25hp outboard is pretty spot on.

There is no foam inside the pods, if water did somehow get in there are drains on each one just in case.

@@jonathanwombles5004 Ohh, no you leave them hollow, they get sealed up with plugs. Foam would just weigh them down and not help.
