My best friend and I went to his Friday show for over a year. I was afraid to skip a show, for what I'd miss. We made the trek from Riverside to Mid City every week. We saw Elliott Smith, Fiona Apple, Rickie Lee Jones, Aimee Mann, and many more. I even got to sing Strawberry Fields during one of his "Live Karaoke" nights, while Jon played the Chamberlain (one my all time favorite moments in Life!) It was truly a magical time, and I knew it as it was happening! Perfecto!

Jon Brion on Friday night was my life for years. One night Jon played Beautiful Boy and it was honestly the most special musical moment I have every experienced. I would even say spiritual. I miss those days.

same! I'll never forget him getting the entire audience to sing "god only knows" as he played away... unreal

@@pianoatthirty I try to explain what it was like to people, but you really can’t contain in words what Largo and Jon were at that time. So grateful I was able to take part in it as often as I did. The amount of times I saw Neil Finn, my all-time favorite, from mere feet away was so special.

@@mellymeltheoriginal I'll never forgive myself for not making the short trek from the South Bay to The Largo on Friday nights back then... my gf and I kept on planning it but something always came up 🤦♂️ to my utter shame!

Echo Park / Silver Lake scene was legitimately homey & almost Laurel Canyon-esque communal for a hot minute; then the money got f*cking weird and word on the Strip was if you wanted any faux Bohemian LA cred, you were at the Largo. Judd Apatow was drooling on a burger nervously while Aimee Mann tried to pretend it wasn't happening and Beck _definitely_ pretended it wasn't happening. Jon needed a check but didn't know where to cash it. He's a genius but let's himself get stomped over again & again. He'll pass away and it'll be a less drinkey Nilsson thing where it's like cool; we didn't really give him enough cred while he was here but here's grey Aziz Ansari talking about how mind blowing he was at the g*ddamn Largo one night & gee, maybe shoulda said what's good um why don't you tour? Favorite composer, for film I think, but he's getting left in the dust with this what-if Largo sh!t. Greenwood, Ross/Rez, Levi, Lopatin, Zimmer.
