How fortunate we are to live during an age in which we have easy access to such inspiring talks. I truly believe that people will look back on this era and say that mindfulness saved humanity. Beautiful.

The journey to self awareness started for me 6 months back when I read John Kabat Zinn's book Catastrophe Living I feel privileged to be able to hear John Kabat-Zinn here in Liverpool. Thank goodness for the Internet. Like anything else, technology is a double edged sword. A blessing if used mindfully and a disaster if used mindlessly!

wow. After meditating for a few years, pain dissolved, anger became laughable, stress dissolved, depression lifted. Enlightenment beckoned, but love was the last test. Oh the pain, but mindfulness shone through. Eventually. Love and peace. Be happy

Being present in every moment of one's life and experiencing each moment instead of just rushing through life to the next moment is a powerful idea. Slowing down to experience and appreciating the moment through every sense can make one more aware. Something I will strive to incorporate in my life-thanks!

True Meditation is Separation from the body and mind . The Matrix is your own bio computer brain machine that keeps You in the illusion of being a physical Being in a physical world via the nervous system and the five senses. Meditation is putting the body and mind to sleep but staying Awake and Alert inside until you experience yourself as Eternal Spirit again.. (Guardiantext,org) Pass it on. Front cover link or page 8 the two practices are opposed and opposite to each other 😮❤sorry

@ steven Hickman: I enjoyed your presentation, thank you. I have mental arguments all the time, until I remind myself to observe my surroundings and to just walk and kiss the ground with my shoes. I do this about a hundred times, and I go back to what I am doing. Having Borerline, I just have to do this to survive.

I felt that too when I first saw Jon do a Google talk. But the more I delved into his work, the more I realized he's the real deal. I was always turned off of meditation by people like Deepak Chopra who seem to just want to capitalize off meditation. But Jon seems to be more heartfelt about all this mindfulness stuff. Plus he backs up what he says with hard science. And yet--despite his refreshingly scientific approach to it--he's managed to not turn it into something cold and analytical.

I think that mindfulness meditation and mindfulness in general could be taught at schools with critical thinking skills at the same time, though they may seem a litle bit opposite. but they are not. we need critical thinking skills in this society of information and we need mindfulness in this society of materialism and blind to the mind.

Something about the sound quality that is not so good as the sound quality of the one who introduced the speaker. I have a great deal of respect for Dr. Kabot-Zinn. Seems to be very much in touch with the Aura of the self, as he so profoundly puts it: "...the aura of yourself..."

What an amazing video, thank you John for you commitment to the cultivation of peace! Some of these comments surprise me in lieu of the video . Are these comments mindful? I don't believe so. When being mindful, one is less prone to react, defend, or attack. Being mindful really has nothing to do with religion. I wager that our "happy moments" are moments of attention, mindfulness, and appreciation. Mindfulness being the key. Just my 2 cents! Happy Holidays!

I can't see the problem with Steve Hickmans introduction... It's kind of normal and natural that a speaker gets an introduction - and if it's an introduction with a personal touch like here - I find it interesting most of the time. I did here for sure. Chill out... Is it really all about JKZ why we came here to listen and watch... or is it about mindfulness?
@Ramatganski
@Ramatganski 12 жыл бұрын
Yes, I see what you mean and what I meant was that there is literally the waking state into which one wakes up from sleep, whether abruptly or slowly - the very state I am in now and you are in right now. It's not as if without this "falling awake" sorcery we have just "falling asleep": let us remember we also do have "waking up". This is important because without due clarification as to how "falling awake" relates to normal waking up, coining this term is redundant.

If you would like to understand more about mindfulness I would sign up to a 10 day Vipassana course as taught by S N Goenka, to really understand mindfulness you have to experience it, not try to learn it in an intellectual way. There is a universal consciousness which is shifting towards mindfulness.

I'm at a university now, and people are so spacey. It's disheartening to really pay attention to people. For example, I had this group project, and we met after class to work on it (in the computer lab). Instead of helping me do the project, they all used Facebook (one was also on a bodybuilding website). When I would try to encourage them to work on the project, they were so spacey it took me a few attempts to get their attention. Out of 4 people, I did all the work (over 30 hours). Zombies! :(

The person doing the introduction was out of breath and seemed very awkward and uncomfortable so I guess maybe he doesn't like public speaking and he was rushing through it. But he had wonderful things to say and yes I do think he went on a bit too long. So it was wonderful that he said he wasn't into this and now all these years later he is into it but he didn't really connect for us how it happened and I don't think John was very clear about it either so I think most people walked away thinking what the h*** was this which is a real shame because it is really something good it just wasn't expressed well even though John has a very relaxing voice. Forgive the typose else I am speaking into this phone.

yea, it would be better to start it from pre-school though. Given the lazy mentality of teens these days, courses are simply a way to get to university, not to learn, which may allow them to take a meditation course, not to improve well being, but to squander their time doing nothing while boosting their mark.

I think for people who have read his books and tried the program who then watched this year's later it might make sense to them and they might think hes a great speaker but I think to someone who knows nothing about it they doubt it they will walk away still not knowing anything about it if they even stay long enough to the end of the program. I don't think he explained well what the program is what it does how you do it it was very abstract and I totally agree with the person who posted this. And it would have been useful for the person who introduced him or for him to just in one sentence say what that psoriasis study showed that people who had black psoriasis and were going through the light treatment healed 4 times faster if they were all so practicing mindfulness so that is something that is scientific that would really grab folks here in the audience and then he could talk About what it is and how it's done and then he could throw in as much poetry as he wants but for me I have never understood poetry and it was Greek to me when he read the poems and it very much turned me off and I'm very into this particular person and his books and his cds and his topic.
