FasterZone You can always tell because the real time commentators always have a lot more emotion in there voice. This guy sounds more like a narrator for one of those animal planet shows or something. "And now, nthe mother cheetah goes back to check on her cub." Plus sometimes he says things too soon, like right as they are happening, in real time he would have to take a few seconds to process what just happened and figure out what to say.

@@Frisson_ Exactly. I never understood all the disqualifications/bans in sports like this. I’ve just recently watched an interview with a couple of strongmen who all said they do all do it equally and the difference only lies in the development of the substances. As they said for example in the US doping is much more advanced and common and that’s where many of the strongmen around the world gets their supplies from. Doesn’t take more naive than believing that any of them is clean (but again, it’s nothing bad since everyone does it, some just can take advantage of it better).

There's always those who side with guys like Sigmarsson and Pudzianowski, while others push Kazmaier or Savickas for their "pure strength." While other athletic attributes like speed and endurance are X-factors, the heart of WSM is something more subtle: functional strength. Sacks, barrels, kegs, stones, anvils, trucks, etc. Gyms are now starting to replace their clean-cut bells and machines with this kind of real-life equipment, so WSM was way ahead of its time. Still, there's huge bragging rights for static strength. This video capture that fact perfectly: Jon Pall wins, but makes that huge concession to Bill for being "the strongest on his feet."
@slutenanstalt9950
@slutenanstalt9950 10 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's correct to say that odd objects measure 'real world' strength but the diversity or 'reality' of WSM contests lies in the fact that they involve throwing events, strength endurance and other leverage heavy events. Basically this means that short lifters will find it very hard to rise to the top, as they do not have the proper leverage for long or high throws or curiosity events such as sumo wrestling. It may seem unfair but that's just how real world strength works. A giant can bench press a ton just like a midget but the midget will not throw a discus very far.
@slutenanstalt9950
@slutenanstalt9950 10 жыл бұрын
Another reason why odd objects may be preferred is that they help make the strongmen look even stronger than they are. Relative to the maximum strength of these men, these overhead lifts are not so impressive. There's a lot of technique involved and nowadays a couple women have overhead lifted bigger weights than some of the weights these men struggled with here. If they used regular barbells, people would be wondering why they cannot lift the same weights as scrawnier and shorter weightlifters. The odd object use provides them with an excuse.
@Deelohn
@Deelohn 7 жыл бұрын
sluten anstalt I know this comment is 2 years old but I just want to point out that over head pressing with a barbell is much easier than doing it with a thick wood log. So in that aspect, the log isn't just used to make the weight look heavy

@dango9786 9 жыл бұрын
Being the /first/ one to win four times is irrelevant, only that he won. Today's strongmen are capable of vastly heavier weights, for example they're deadlifting 60kg+ more than he ever did, although to be fair he did his best without straps. He was the first great strongman and helped to popularize the sport but he was not better, prime to prime, than Zavickas or Shaw or Bjornsson or probably even Hall now. They're simply far stronger. Also, with the utmost respect and may he rest in peace, he died because he pushed his body more than it could handle, and his heart wasn't strong enough. I'm as much a fan of his as the next guy, but he's not the greatest all round strongman that ever lived it's just factually untrue, clear as day when you see his records
@jasonseed691
@jasonseed691 9 жыл бұрын
You realize that he competed in strongman in the 80's right?..and your comparing him to today's steroid/growth hormone pumped strongmen like Zavickas, Shaw, Bjornsson who all have like over 100 lbs on Jon Pall lol? Don't get me wrong there amazing strongman nonetheless. However, the sport since Jon Palls day has greatly evolved just like it did with many other sports. As an example, look at bodybuilding in the 80's compared to today. The use of drugs is simply more prominent and if Jon pall competed today there is no doubt that he would easily been a top contender. Anyways with the basic knowledge aside what I meant in my earlier post is that Jon Pall is a strongman who only weighted around 300 pounds and if you take his amazing strength, speed and accomplishments into consideration he is easily without a doubt the greatest well rounded strong man that ever lived. May he RIP.

Sigmarsson was a legend comparing Kazmaier to a Viking God and saying he was something you were forbidden to touch - and then he gave him cheeky touch on the chest. RIP Jón Páll Sigmarsson. In Odin's great mead hall forever with beautiful Viking women.

Jón Páll and Bill! Two giants. Two crazy athletes. Bill is more static, Jón Páll is more athletic and faster. But Bill had also great endurance, aswel Jón Páll was incredibely strong on his feet also. By the way, was so nice to see in the end that Jón Páll had a great respect towarda Bill. He was like a little cute child there. We miss him... so hardly. Maybe the greatest strength athlete in the World....he had great results in strongman, powerlifting, bodybuilding, weightlifting and arm wrestling. What a man...

In a huge JPS fanboy, he was my hero being young and my absolutely favourite strongman of all time but I thought his head-rest log press was questionable 🤣. I adore the late 80’s and 90’s strongman competitions

Did you happen to miss the parts where Kaz made bitch weight out of Palls maxes? Or when Kaz won in endurance events, Palls bests event? Fucking judges calling bill for fixing his grip is the only reason Kaz lost. Kaz is king

Bill Kazmaiar was in his prime in late 70's and early 80's . Literally Bill KaZ was immortal and untouchable even Goeff Capes who beaten Jon Pall Sigmarsson wasn't able to touch Bill in his prime , Nobody did ever , even surpassing other competitors with a insane points difference and winning three time on a streak and also breaking hell of number of Records , that led him to be banned from competition of WSM for years .That because Bill Kazmier was way way ahead of his time , a man with the most absolute Strength on the planet , a true legend . He was an idol for all the other strongmen across generations , even for Jon Pall Himself . though I can't deny that those two guys are the one who pushed the legacy and the sport of Strongman further beyond and make it what it is now . Huge respect for them both .

ist a shame kaz wernt competing 1983-1986, maby he would have been the most winning strongman ever :/ I think he would have won this one if he wasnt stopped at the holding event and if the weight for height event was not out on water(he had the world record in that event" still two of my favorite strongmen, great show :)
