I agree, we should have higher standards on how they are treated and slaughtered. For the most part, most animals are raised and killed humanely, but there are farms with bad people working in them that get off on making these animals lives worse than they should be. On the other hand, in the wild, most Domesticated livestock would suffer pretty similar if not worse treatment. Getting eaten alive is pretty gruesome and is almost every herbivores, omnivores and occasionally meat eating animals fate in the wild. I personally think an electric shock or quick bolt to the head is far more humane than being eaten alive.

So in the town I live in, there was an abused horse discovered that had paintballs pelted at it by kids and all kinds of horrible stuff. So these beautiful, healthy, athletic animals in nature need to be killed so they wont keep suffering. Joe Rogan is so thoughtful. Shouldn't he morally just make sure that as many of them as possible die right away? I mean, it's cruel to leave some of them alone out there, alive and suffering. And those animals are not individuals with their own personalities and personal lives to live. Only the ones you give personal names to have that.

As a farmer with only crops, if you don’t cull the deer herd by hunting, the herd suffers and there will be wasting. Deer multiply almost like rabbits. Not hunting them is not sustainable for any farmer. That’s why they have bag limits and specific times of the year they can be hunted. If you like veggies, we’re going to have to hunt with some frequency. Or no beans, corn, etc.

I think it’s a great argument and I’m vegan. Veganism (real Veganism) isn’t a diet-it’s a lifestyle of least possible harm to animals. The life of a wild animal, especially a wild prey animal, is nightmarishly brutal. I’d much rather a deer shot than ripped apart and maybe eaten alive (which is what bears do to their prey). However I don’t condone hunting for its own sake-I will never get on board with humans just selfishly using animals. Edit to add: On reflection reading other comments, I have to be cautious about Joe’s justification. Of course it’s better to be shot than ripped apart (or die of starvation or injury etc etc) but this has to balanced with the enjoyable period of an animal in its prime.

That’s probably because you’re fortunate enough to live in the Northern Hemisphere. Many nations don’t have a choice, and raising (or hunting) animals is the only viable way to survive. Farm animals’ existence is solely due to humans, so it’s not a smart argument to say that it’s immoral to kill (and eat) them. If not for us, they wouldn’t exist in their farm forms.

Factory Farming is systematically killing people as well as causing people to go on lifelong medications. I stopped eating meat about 7-8 years ago, for a number of reasons. As a result , I lost about 25 pounds and no longer have cellulite, (cows leg). I look alot younger. My blood pressure stabilized and i went off of blood pressure medication. My taste buds changed and i can taste the process flavor in packaged food. Their is a distinct flavor that you would never notice unless you stopped consuming it. Headaches gone. Inflammation no more unless im stressed. The taste of fat in my food is noticeable and undesirable at this point. Meat is addictive bc of the hormones and more?? from factory farming. I am in fact much less hungry daily. My daily nutrition levels are higher bc my diet is higher in natural vitamin, my body absorbs nutrients much better and my body is not slowed down bc of the long duration of digesting meat in my system. And finally im not causing pain and suffering, just because Im hungry.... as well as not supporting the bogus secretive factory farming trade, that i should mention here. I used to sell meat in corporate America. I learned alot. I worked their for 3 years. I quit my job, and stopped eating meat.

Right! Beware, people, of the love Joe Rogan touts for his meat-centered diet. It doesn't come without risks. I went vegetarian 31 years ago, then vegan 17 years ago. In contrast, my sister has been an avid meat/animal products-eater all her life and even did Adkins for about a year when it was popular in the late 90s. She NEVER ONCE asked me why/how I was vegan, and I never preached to her, figuring live and let live, right? It's her life, she's free to do with it what she chooses. Well, guess who had to go on dialysis 2 years ago? (Irony, of course, is that now she's trying to guilt-trip me into volunteering to be her live donor! She was free to fuck up her kidneys but if I want to be free to keep mine, I risk being ostracized by the family for not helping her out.) Anecdotal? Maybe. Except everything I've seen researching my sister's condition on her behalf, points to animal protein SPECIFICALLY damaging the kidneys--and the scary thing is that the body is so adept at compensating for the damage that symptoms don't surface until the kidneys are often too far gone. And apparently, as far as conventional medicine is concerned, the kidneys don't regenerate like the liver. Once the cells are dead, the damage is irreversible. With the privileges Joe's fame affords him, I'm sure he's got doctors that constantly keep tabs on his kidney function so that he can continue to eat meat to maintain his unnaturally exaggerated muscle mass for his image as a MMA fighter. Unfortunately most of us regular folk don't have that luxury.

Well if you want examples, on an ecological stand point if you remove predators, Yellowstone elk over grazing was harmful to the whole ecosystem, deer all over the United States also over graze as well as develop diseases like CWD because predators are not removing the old and sick, and you have the wild boar population literally outcompeting everything and destroying ecosystems and agriculture land. Just somethings to consider when thinking about hunting in general
@GlennTXstate10

Their mutual respect is a quality more of our society should have. I'm a hunter and totally respect an individuals confliction and reasoning for being vegetarian/vegan. Understanding the work involved to be in the position to take an animals life is one part and the other is the mental aspect of ending an animals life. You come to respect animals more and become aware of what is involved in taking an animals life. It's not easy or joyful. The caveman inside us later appreciates the payoff for the work spent to provide this food for self and family. I think every person that eats meat should have to take an animals life to understand what is involved in the process and how their meat ends up on their plate. I feel this is taken for granted and not realized with the regular American. This is why I totally understand the vegan/vegetarian mentality and not being able to take an animals life.

@@labbyshepherdpuppy5943 Thanks for the info. I was vaguely aware, yes. For such reasons I'm definitely open to the possibility of hunting being something that can reduce overall suffering in places. There's complications though. Hunting should be highly regulated in my opso we have 'full' control over how we affect the ecosystem. Maybe this is already appropriately in place, I simply know too little about it. I know that here in the Netherlands you need a permit (which you don't obtain too easily) and there's all sorts of regulations. Also, and I would like to hear if you agree, if everyone would eat exclusively meat they hunted for themselves, I would expect only few calories we take in to come from meat.

Ole Joe, with the same tired non argument time and time again. Hunting is not a solution as it's not sustainable for everyone to do, hunting(especially when you're rich) is not a moral answer to the ethics of the question at hand. It's a shame John doesn't push him on this, because it's such a weak point. Animals of all kinds die, but that inevitability does not give you a free pass to do what you want with a sentient being. Just as people dying does not give you a free pass to murder. Rape existing in nature not giving you justification for you to rape, etc. Joe does not hunt for survival, he's rich, he lives in LA(the vegan capital of the world), this man can get delicious healthy food made for him, delivered to him for free if he wanted at all hours of the day with no detriment to himself or his health. YET he continues to needlessly kill sentient animals for pleasure. There's no justification, apply any excuse you make to anything else and you'll see how quickly that logic falls apart. It's tiresome to hear someone with this much influence time and time again dodge the question at hand and answer with a non answer, hollow lip service that the rest of his meat eating fans can just hear and quickly forget about any moral contradiction in their own life. Be logical and you'll quickly realize there are no distinguishing traits that these animals do not have that makes them deserving of our moral consideration. In all the ways that matter animals are the same.

I'm now 18 month into high fat animal based and it is 100% easier to digest and easy to avoid processed foods. My cravings for PB'n'j sandwiches and pizzas was gone pretty much immediately. Saturated animal fat was the largest source of calories for every human being outside of a select few areas where animals were scarce. India worships the cow for a reason. If it weren't for the cows milk they would not exist. If it weren't for saturated animal fat, humans wouldn't exist. It was our drive to find a more dense form of nutrition that allowed our brains to develop allowing us to hunt large animals. Apes eat small bugs and mostly plants because they developed huge guts and relatively small brains in contrast to our smaller guts and larger brains. The vegan diet goes against our natural inclination to eat the best fuel for our large brains that is also the least taxing on the digestive system. An animal based diet is easy to digest and high in nutrition and calories compared to a diet full of indigestible plant fiber. Sorry to burst your bubble but just take to red meat pill if you want to live.

How creamy it was, and how after eating 2 huge plate full, instead of feeling weighted down and sick like I just ate a bunch of cream and cheese with heavy pasta, I felt really good. Now when i eat, I eat till I'm not hungry and I stay full. Of you eat food, and you feel sick or weighted down after, that's really bad. You need food to live for energy, if your food is making you feel bad, that's because its destroying you slowly. I've worked at a Michelin star restaurant where I cooked dry aged rib eye steaks for 160 dollars a plate. I know throw down when it comes to food. As a professional, I do believe I've had the privledge of having food so good, most people will never experience it in there lives. And I've had the privledge of being taught to cook by people who have cooked for kings. I feel so lucky and thankful to have these experiences. What it comes down to I believe, is we have to est for enjoyment. But theres so much more than just flavor. My priority when it comes to food, is to eat the most amount of food I can eat possibly and still feel really good when I'm done. I know how to cook a steak to perfection, but typically a meal for me is shoveling in rice, beans, and a veggie. I do believe meat has health benefits, but the cost is too great often. @@MeganLynnBlanchard I agree that we all need to learn to listen to our own individual body. However, imo.. Theres a reason(s) why your body deteriorated on your plant based diet, but it's not because a plant based diet is unhealthy for you. There are many factors to consider in regards to the causes of your deteriorating health on a plant based diet. Did you regularly eat mostly whole foods, was it diverse, was it balanced, raw vs cooked, did you eat junk n processed foods along with it. Did you eat organic and non-GMO? Do you have underlying digestive issues such as IBS, Crohn's, SIBO, colitis, leaky gut, etc. ▪︎There is evidence that plant-based diets can benefit people with autoimmune diseases. Plus, both the AIP and anti-inflammatory diets also focus strongly on fruits and vegetables. If you have an autoimmune disease, you might find you tolerate vegetables better when they're cooked, though. A growing body of evidence indicates that a healthy plant-based diet can positively impact certain autoimmune diseases. In many cases, individuals report a significant reduction-or even total reversal-of autoimmune disease symptoms when they cut out meat and dairy. The right diet can help ease pain and heal autoimmune diseases. In general, avoid caffeine, alcohol, sugar, grains, dairy and red meat, and focus on fruits, vegetables, healthy fats and fish. Try these six foods to make living with autoimmune conditions easier.

My meat guilt came out big time when I went to South America and saw what was happening to the rain forest. 1000s of square miles chopped down for animal grazing and it only lasts a few years before the land is used up and then they cut down more trees. It is not sustainable for everyone to hunt or for our farms to continue to use up the planets resources. Imagine if every household in LA went out and killed a deer, there would be none left after the first year. There is no way that nature would survive if we all went out to the wild and harvested. Humans have thrown nature way out of balance, our lifestyle is doomed to failure without some major changes.

Back in the days tribes would throw down a big ass party for a kill. Are you happy the moose is dead? I dont think so. Are you happy that prepping your hunting grounds for weeks then covering yourself in bull piss, then walking around in the woods or hiding for days in a cache actually paid off? Oh hell yeah! And now you got your freezer full of good well earned meat and you can avoid the factory farmed crap to feed yourself and your familly, + it didn't cost much money and it makes you feel like a provider.

It’s funny when Joe likes to repeat his fav arguments like for example the “animals u hunt are athletes” which he’s said many times and Jon replies with the “alright alright alright”

@@drestarman Why? Do you have no respect for the crops that feed you? Why should a carnivore or omnivore be any different?

Purely from a health perspective. Jon 57 years old. Whole food plant based diet. Looks lean, fit and healthy. Jo 52 years old. Hunter based diet. Overweight and bloated with poor skin tone. Many people from westernised countries would say Jon looks scrawny, because we are so used to seeing overweight people, as they make up 2/3 of the population.

When you give an animal a name, they suddently became an individual, a living sentient being, they are not just meat. It really changes your perspective.

I love how you guys are talking about this... it’s a very well rounded view of CLEAN plant based or an omnivore diet and educating ourselves on more than just the basics we always hear about.

Nick Tann good question! CLEAN would be whole, natural foods like simply cooked vegetables, tubers, beans, or raw fruits and nuts (as opposed to processed plants that are turned into fake meat patties, deep fried, etc.) and meats that come from sources where the animals are fed higher quality foods, don’t live in their own feces, and aren’t injected with hormones and antibiotics. These things can lead to disease, tumors, genetic mutations that people end up consuming 😝

It's a great step to discuss personal stories and experiences.. next is doing a deep dive into plants, farms, climate, the FDA subsidies, pandemic links to animals, evidence based science, etc. Great starting points: nutritionfacts.org and pcrm.org... films: Cowspiracy and Forks Over Knives. Soooooo many more. Education is key, so let's not stop at "I don't really know about XYZ". Find out! The info has been public for DECADES.
