I am in My 60's and Started Playing Guitar when I was 8. I Have Listened to and Studied All the Great Guitarest's from Every Style that Can Be Played on Guitar , And I Say This is One of the Best Live Performance 's I Have Ever Heard! I am Sad I Never Got to See Him In Person , But Only Just Recently Discovered Him Last Year!

I'm of similar vintage and I get it. I don't play, but grew up with some greats who are still great -- way out on the edge great. I"ve seen things,. I've been places. I've heard everything....almost. I'm an accomplished listener. And THIS is SICK! This video alone is a rabbit hole, but it opens others. I've heard some Hellborg. But I've only heard OF Shawn Lane and I'm ashamed I never took time to listen to him. The duration of otherworldly energy is just crazy. Think I'll listen to that again....

Simply in a class of his own. Name any other guitarist that " shreds " and I will probably become distracted by a shiny object in 3 seconds when I listen to them. Shawn, on the other hand, captivates your mind and your heart simultaneously. That's the real difference imo

@ I agree. I don't know any Shawn fans who "just know him for being the fastest". That is hardly the point for people who really appreciate him, and people who experience him usually appreciate him. But of course, most people simply never heard of him.
5 жыл бұрын
@@Gregorypeckory That is unfortunate, but thank goodness for the internet. I try to sneak a link out here and there. Maybe snag some curious person. I still try to get people to try him out, but it's not as easy to get people to listen to music they did not listen to as teenagers. Some people peaked in High School as far as musical taste and appreciation. Have a great year Greg!
@Gregorypeckory5 жыл бұрын
@ Thanks man; I appreciate it, and wish you the best too! I'm the same way; have turned quite a few people on to Shawn; I hope some of them benefit as richly as we have from the lucky break of having his treasures in our lives! This might sound out of left field, but if you haven't already, be sure to check out Mandolin Srinivas too; another one of a kind genius that I bet Shawn was a great fan of! He has that incredible "slidey" phrasing together even more than Shawn, and I would be surprised if Shawn didn't model some of his glissando phrasing off Srinivas. Let me know; I bet you'll love him like me if you aren't already a fan!

Hellborg is one of the reasons why I started playing bass, I was soo inspired by him, not by his playing so much, but by him as a person and musician! I met him a few times in the mid 80's when I used to go to all his gigs in my town. What a down to earth person!!! First time I met him outside Nefertiti jazz club in Gothenburg, we were just talking and I didn't even realise it was him!!! It was just before his own gig there!It has stayed with me ever since!

Ok, this had to have been the night that me and Shawn took all those Mushrooms. There were 4 dates at AD&P and this being the last night had to have been it. There was like this back woods farmer type guy that called himself Red that just popped up in the owners office and offered us shrooms. Me and Shawn jumped on it and he had these giant fresh picked and powerful ones. I was thinking we will do them later, but no Shawn had to have eaten at least a half ounce 20 to 30 minutes before the show. It was so hot, late August in a warehouse in GA with no air and the lights were old school halogen par cans. I was working as their tech and I remember I took probably an 8th just because Shawn took some and I was an 18 year old kid just trying to fit in. I had to get a fellow music school student from AIM to make sure the sound board was ok. lol I passed out in the owners office that night. Yeah this was it because I got some bad pictures because I think my camera was tripping too but Jonas was wearing that white shirt.
