This event took place on the 8th of December 2022. The information below is correct as of the publication date.
Famously exasperated satirical reporter Jonathan Pie’s creator Tom Walker is joined in discussion by comedy writer and performer Nick Revell about Pie’s most recent live show FAKE NEWS.
A look behind the scenes at one of the UK's most successful online comedians who dissects clips of the show, discusses the writing process and debates its politics. Rounded off with questions from the audience.
Nick Revell is an award-winning writer and performer whose career in comedy, satirical and topical writing goes back to Weekending, The News Huddlines and Not the Nine O’Clock News. His TV and radio work on sitcoms, sketch shows and stand-up includes The Nick Revell Show, Drop the Dead Donkey, The Million Pound Radio Show and most recently BrokenDreamCatcher, which will return for a third series on BBC R4 in 2023. Nick has also written material for many other performers including Dave Allen, Rory Bremner, Michael Moore, Tracy Ullman and Jonathan Pie himself, has published two novels, and has written and performed many solo shows. He also co-created and produced the topical podcast No Pressure to be Funny, hosted by James O’Brien.
Tom Walker is an actor, writer and comedian best known for his satirical creation Jonathan Pie. Now with over 1.6 million Facebook followers, his ‘frustrated news reporter’ videos regularly achieve millions of views, going internationally viral. One of Pie’s earliest videos - his response to the election of Donald Trump - was viewed more than 150 million times worldwide. Pie’s four live shows have sold out venues such as the Hammersmith Apollo and the London Palladium and have been performed across the US and Australia. His latest live tour has been nominated for a coveted Chortle award. He has recently started a collaboration with The New York Times.

Jonathan Pie is a brilliant invention, Mr. Walker. I love all the videos and his reflections of the political and social events in the UK.

Voltaire never said this, it was said by Evelyn Beatrice Hall in a biography of Voltaire. The actual quote is: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".

I had only come to return some books that were late. I saw that the place was set up for some kind of performance or something, so I stayed and watched. That Tom fella seems like a nice boy!

This was great. You covered everything. It's just a shame that the only people watching are those who already agree. But it still gives me hope that you filled an auditorium in London of all places. I know it's just a job but given that Kier and Rishi have screwed the pooch on Israel. Tom could be a shoe in for PM if he started a political party tomorrow. Unfortunately people like him do not posses that level of conceit😢. That's why we are all fooooooked!

What I like about Tom, Playing Johnathan Pie. Is he just speaks the truth in his opinion. Politicians LIE, avoid question or (Mislead The government) and we the people only want the truth and a strait answer. However they never will. So, because they wont give us a strait answer. Johnathon Pie basically kind of breaks it down and translates the BS of the politicians. Regardless of who you support. Politicians are not to be trusted.

As a publican as we used to call it, I would just like to add that the pub was/is/and hopefully will always be one of the best public spaces to have an open and honest debate about these up their arses alleged comedians who just depress people. Oops, am I speaking to the wrong audience?………..

I'm not sure if we can really conclude that the left is all about picking at differences, or is it just that the PORTION of the left that will not abide any different opinion will be way louder than the rest.... Just like the most radical fringe on the right will be much louder than the majority of somewhat right leaning people.... And those people possibly come from the social media mechanism that really favors inflammatory and radical takes. Because saying 'well there are interesting nuances to the subject and both sides are worth considering' just immediately puts everyone to sleep.... and a take that will enrapture one half of your audience and enrage the other is the one that will get you maximum engagement...

Hello, I think this channel might have more subscribers if it were possible to hear what is being said. For some reason that I can't understand, there are subtitles running at the top of the screen but they are microscopically small. I shouldn't need subtitles, but I do because your volume setting is TOO LOW. Everything at my end is up to 100%, so there's nothing I can do to make this video watchable. Jonathan Pie videos usually get hundreds of thousands of views, so you've got to ask yourselves why only 6K people have watched this.

The one thing I'll say is that my mum is a paramedic of 20years. She flat out refuses to strike. She says that paramedics aren't paid what they should be obviously. But, she thinks if you get rid of materialism in your life, the wage is livable on. But mainly because people are literally dying whilst they "stand eating biscuits saying its for patients care. They said life threatening calls would be answered but that's not the case. Cat 1 calls are answered which are cardiac arrests and strokes. On her shift the next day an elderly person nearly died when she fell in the street breaking her arm and leg. She lay screaming for 4 hours on the floor outside in the freezing cold. Strangers saved her life by covering her with blankets and hot water bottles. My mum was 3 hours late ro that job because she was stood queuing in AnE corridor with a patient along with all the other paramedics on shift. My mum couldn't have carried on working with that on her conscience. That's why Keir isn't backing the strikes because then he would have to back the deaths. Junior Dr's aren't paid enough, but a few years later they specialise and earn triple my mums wage, it's nurses I feel sorry for.
