“A fire broke out backstage in a theatre. The clown came out to warn the public; they thought it was a joke and applauded. He repeated it; the acclaim was even greater. I think that's just how the world will come to an end: to general applause from wits who believe it's a joke.” -Soren Kierkegaard

From your brother's book " ... Sabbaths and Jubilees may be considered ancient forms of vaccines that sealed off powers of pointless change, exile, flooding, and death through contact with manageable versions ..." - The Language Of Creation page 194. We need to know the boundaries of space and time, tease the boundary, become aware, then go back and hopefully flourish. In some cases, like the USA, when the king is the clown (inversion), then those who care and give a damn about culture and politics, sober up, start paying attention, and not take things for granted. We get complacent then "Bam" , we get our socks knocked off, we question, reevaluate, become grateful for stable space, and we go back to the drawing board. Great video Jonathan.

When you talked about Sinterklaas and his oranges hidden in shoes, I got goosebumps, because you explained something that was very dear to my childhood as a Belgian :) Now you make me ponder again over the "Donkey procession" during (ezelstoet in dutch) which the small town next to my village has somewhere during march, the carnival season here. In the Ezelstoet, around fifty carnival wagons are processed (like any other carnival in Belgium), but in the middle there is a procession of (around five) donkeys. Children can ride these for a while if they want to. As with any other carnival here, the people who organise it vote who becomes prince and princess carnival that year. They are the stars of the procession The official explanation is that the farmers used to bring their fresh products into the markets and this carnival honours them. But symbolism happens :)

Following you for years now, and studying Peterson religiously, I feel that I'm beginning to see the holistic connection between the Fool and the King, the Student and the Master, the Individual and the Collective, the Father (Culture) and the Mother (Nature).. Not that each of those run in parallel exactly, but this cyclical nature of reality, where it's a unity and a pluarlity, simultaneously, paradoxically, and somehow is always in threat (unstable) and at peace (stable).. it's a very profound perception in the moment where I can in fact begin to percieve it. Anyway, thank you for your craft an sharing what you've learned. It's always a pleasure.

I would say, who knew that clowns could teach you so much, but that seems to be part of their purpose-- to teach you the things you refuse to know if you're too caught up in yourself, the structure, the hierarchy of order. It's almost like they are a pressure valve of society. Probably also indicative of our society that there is so much animosity and moral pearl-clutching toward jokes, comedians, etc. It comes out one way or the other, and if the social order is warped and in need of fixing, the clowns are what are needed to set things right again. As I've been watching and comprehending, at some point the idea of the sine/ cosine wave has come to mine and ever since it really help me understand the 'pattern', and how things only need follow and not be in line with a pattern in order to recognize one; ie computer generated wave = God's perfect idea and a hand drawn wave is the reality of imperfect manifestation of the divine patter. Around 16:00 you explain inversion are necessary; in my opinion this makes the sine/cosine wave make even more sense. At first it helped me only with the idea of patter/ cycle. Now it makes sense that inversion are necessary... it must go down ("flip") in order to see it come up (life) again.

Yeah that jester at 28:31 looks to be in Germany. Here we have our Carnival called Fasching (or the 5th season) from 11th of November 11:11 until Lent starts. It’s all about that energy from the margins!😄 I‘m really enjoying reading Matthieu‘s book, chapter for chapter, then coming and hear Jonathan talk more and give real world examples.

I love your incredible insight and your ability to translate that insight to me. The only critique I have of this excellent video is a songwriter correction. Pete Seeger wrote Turn Turn Turn not Simon and Garfunkel ♥️

25:40 Really interesting. A not quite holy but definitely elevated public figure comes to mind as perhaps a somewhat modern example. He was an actual jester who acted as something more, but later the figure and memory of him was symbolically represented and used by artists to make or carry subversive or reformist political messages. See Stanczyk as a symbol: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sta%C5%84czyk

Once he mentioned the clown turning things upside down and he mentioned a certain flag... I understood. Great video. The Wheel of Fortunes will turn again, and hopefully we can all survive it.

time is unchanging, it's only our perception of time that changes. e.g., commenting to a friend or co-worker "this week flew by." when actually the week was still 7 days long and each day was still 24 hours and each hour was 60 minutes, etc.. it's only how we perceive and experience time that changes.

We have an annual fair here in my area called Oysterfest. We live on the coast of Texas and it's super great. Tons of spinny rides, one of the interesting things is they all turn the same direction. There are oyster shucking and eating contests, no clowns, and symbolically fascinating, the whole event is put on by the volunteer fire department. The money made from it funds our fire department for the year.

I bet the “Feast of the Ass” could make a comeback. Basically markets itself.

Could you make a video on the symbolic significance of cards... And possibly use some clips of Yu-Gi-Oh?
