Great piece of really useful software, but there are too many issues with the licensing to be reliable when you need it to be; non-existent support (on Node-locked licenses), people getting the software bricked when they reinstall Windows, or even when the plugins MAKERS changed their own server, etc. The data is accessible elsewhere (USGS, OpenStreetMap, etc), so go there if possible.
@JonathanWinbush2 жыл бұрын
How do you pull the info from those sites? I usually used Terrain.party but it has been down for along while

Is it possible to create the globe, instead of the flat square land? Say you want to do a zoom in from satellite, when you see the earth curvature and then zoom inside a particular location? Also is it possible to assign 2 different materials, one for the land and one for the water? So that you can have some stronger specular reflections on the water and less on the lands.. Thanks!
@JonathanWinbush2 жыл бұрын
You can't do a globe that would be extremely to much data to download but yes you can do the water as I show in this tutorial kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZ6YaK2aad6nZsU

Do you know I these are high enough resolution to print at 300 dpi for a book I'm working on?

@@JonathanWinbush oh, I thought you were the creator of the software. I just wanted to discuss in more detail about the limits and potential uses of the software. I plan to use it myself. But I don’t want to invest and then spend the time trying to learn it if it’s not going to work. Do you happen to know if they have a customer support team? Thank you for taking the time to help me out.

Can you zoom out far enough to display an entire country for example with height data?
@JonathanWinbush2 жыл бұрын
Probably not as that would take alot of data to load
@22carmoon2 жыл бұрын
@@JonathanWinbush Thanks for the very quick reply. If you just wanted the impression of some basic elevation over a country could you reduce the amount or quality of the height data? Almost to the point where it's just some very fine grooves if that makes sense?
@22carmoon2 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking of purchasing it but it's quite expensive and I need it for a very specific need so just need to know if it can do something like that.
@JonathanWinbush2 жыл бұрын

Thanks Winbush! Great recommendation, as usual. Would you happen to know if this would provide decent enough quality and detail for an Unreal Environment, like a driving sim, where surfaces kind of need to be accurate? Thanks for all the good work! Cheers!
@JonathanWinbush2 жыл бұрын
So you could defiinately bring the height map into UE but like the google map or whatever map you end up downloading wouldnt be high enough res to do a POV shot you'd have to probably build on top of the map
@BogdanRunceanu2 жыл бұрын
@@JonathanWinbush thanks! yeah, my best chance atm would be to use the height map data as a base for the surroundings and over impose a laser scan for the road surface
@JonathanWinbush2 жыл бұрын
@@BogdanRunceanu interesting so you'd laser scan your own data or where would this come from?
@BogdanRunceanu2 жыл бұрын
@@JonathanWinbush Yeah, that would be the idea. Originally, we have used the services of a GIS company (like here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4rImIx4dpqlm68) for such endeavors and it was up to us to come up with the rest of the environment based on photographic references (Google Street View, mostly). That was a long time ago and for a game engine that's no longer in use. More recently, I went back to that project thinking of reiterating it in a more contemporary approach (UE) and since in the meantime I started doing more serious photogrammetry and laser scanning work, I realized that photos provide more detail than laser in some cases, so I would try out a version where I would collect photogrammetry data at the same time with the laser scan. Anyways, getting as much terrain detail as possible from Google Maps or some other service would be tremendous help at least as a starting point for structuring the surroundings.
