As a car/off-road enthusiast I would never knock someone's vehicle choice, but I just can't understand paying 13K for that. It just seems like you overpayed. But that's neither here, nor there. As for modifications I would do a Flowmaster exhaust, 3-4 inch lift, wheels and tires, and a safari roof rack for carrying gear. Simple, functional build.

I have a Toyota FJ Cruiser that I use for extreme touring in the woods, Everglades in FL, etc. I use it for fishing, hunting, and living in it. My advice: Lift it. Aggressive tires. Rip the back seats out. Rip out most of the interior in the back seat area and put reflective insulation in it. On the inside roof, rod holders(or gun). In the backseat area build a deck/ platform to be off the floor of the car and glue yoga mats/ foam to it. Doing this stuff gives you a comfortable sleeping vehicle that will go anywhere
@slimandlean6 жыл бұрын
I also built a deck for the roof rack and put an easily removable/ foldable bass fishing chair with a seat belt so someone can sit on top and have a birds eye view while you drive. This is great if you are driving through large puddles or flooded areas. They can tell you how deep it is. You will also want to put the exhaust up above the windows/ roof. I’m still able to fit a kayak or canoe or small boat on the roof as well.
@slimandlean6 жыл бұрын
Lastly, this one is just fun and optional, I installed an air horn in the rear bumper with a compressor to have an extremely loud horn (about as loud as a train). This has saved my ass a few times against bears and a moose once who were a little too curious. And it’s fun to mess with people at gas stations 😂. But if not this, carry a loud canned air horn at all times if the vehicle. Goodluck and happy adventuring :)

Had a landcruiser and figured I’d give you some tips. Take a look at the axle seals. Check to make sure the bottom of the rims are dry after it’s sat for a bit. Look for some oil built up on the actual rim. Watch out for head gasket leaks. Open the radiator and let it get to operating temp check for bubbling in the coolant, or smoke out the exhaust. Check the cv joints to make sure their properly lubed up. And lastly watch out for frame rusting out.
@tonyhalabi32396 жыл бұрын
You're talking about the 80 series, this is a 100 series. No head gasket issues or axle seal issues. Just replace your heater T's and make sure your CV boots aren't torn and you're golden.

I’m a bit of a car guy myself, and a dreamer of course. If it were my car I would leave the original color of the car. Also I would install the bed as you said yourself, off-road tires, mud skirts, rain deflectors on the windows, raise the suspension as high as you would like. Also, you would need a roof rack for rods and or camping gear of course if you are doing any camping vids with the goo googans, or even solo. Last but not least, make sure the wheels have no curb rash or anything at all because if you want to get them powder coated it would cost more. That is unless you go to my Dad’s wheel shop. He can pimp this thing out to the max. It’s called Crown Customs and Coatings, it is a well known car customization shop in Elk Grove. Knowing you are from Illinois, I know this might be worth a shot. He will hook you up! Get it?! I suck at jokes but anyways, you won’t be pissed. This is a reliable source for any car, and they’re totally fine with filming. Thanks, crowncustoms.net P.S. I go to Prospect High School.

For everyday use, and to make it easier on yourself for trips, Loading and unloading. Don’t do a big lift just to fit 35’s. 3 inch suspension lift to give yourself some extra suspension travel for deep ruts and steep angles. You Could run a mud terrain 33 inch tire. Any wheel that doesn’t have a TON of offset. Roof rack for sure (all that googan baits gotta go somewhere!) Winch for those tough situations and you don’t have a buddy to pull you out! Snorkel for sure! Rock guard/slider kit to protect that sweet maroon paint job! Aftermarket exhaust/cold air intake. (Get that thing to breathe better!) Just a few things!! Hope this helps!
@b00sted086 жыл бұрын
how are you going to hook up a cold air to a snorkel. Get the snorkel forget the intake. The snorkel will not only keep your engine from sucking in water and also get fresher air in dusty conditions. Also, a 3" lift alone won't give your more suspension travel (unless you go with an extended travel coil-over). You can put 35's if you want, but then you would have to re-gear and cut/hammer pretty significantly. Don't believe people when they say you need a massive lift to fit big tires (remember, the suspension will still have to cycle up and down) A 295/70/17 is a nice compromise, you won't have to re-gear. Sliders for sure have saved my rocker panels a lot.
@danielapap39036 жыл бұрын
Roof rack is a definite. If you are putting a bed in the back you will need more storage space a Thule might be a good idea
@TurboDrivenAustin6 жыл бұрын
I have never installed a snorkel before, so I had no idea I’d it was it’s own intake or if could work with cold airs. Thank you for the info! I was also just trying to take into consideration daily use (hence the 3 inch lift only sugggestion!)

Get a 6 inch lift w 33's and 20x10's. Throw a snorkel on it if you're a badass and wanna go through the water. Maybe a cold air intake which helps the motor run better plus added power. Smoked headlights/taillights/third brake light, will go smoothly with the maroon and look sick. Maybe a brush guard/ranch hand (bulkier than brush guard) and you could throw on a little 12 inch light bar on it too or go all out 41" however you want, led fog lights help out so so much tbh, and look great too. Thats all i got for now

What's going on Jon B? I'm a big car enthusiast. Me personally I would go with some power upgrades. Nothing extravagant maybe 50-150HP. If your going to use it on long over nighter trips. I add a turbo or maybe a supercharger. Not only will you gain power but better fuel economy. Those V8s eat gas like fish breathe water. If done correctly you can improve from 5-8mpg. And you have that extra power to get out of a rut when needed. Just make sure to get a tuner that can have 2 or 3 settings at your disposal. So when you want economy or medium power or full on burn the tires of the wheel power. It's at your command. Of course the proper wheels and tires would come in to play as well. Just be sure that when you do go bigger on the wheels and tires there's turning and suspension travel clearance. Since it will be travel car. Getting some quiet tires makes a world of a diffrence. They might cost more but are worth it on long roads. Toyota has their line of oem perfomance parts. T.R.D it's what they go by. Hope you read this and give some input.

The Lexus LX shares the exact same frame and many other parts as the Toyota Land-cruiser! While the Land Cruiser has luxurious appointments the Lexus LX has more, for my money go with the Land Cruiser every time! JB didn’t show the rock crawling mode or the air lift suspension to raise and lower the truck depending on situation. Also the Land Cruise has 230 HP but over 350 Foot pounds of torque, average gas mileage is 13 city and 17 highway! New this pup sold for about $54,000 depending on options

Owned a 97 Tacoma, it was and is my all time favorite vehicle. I've owned fast cars, fancy cars, big trucks. But man, that little 4 cylinder , 5 speed truck still has my heart. It wasn't the prettiest or the fastest thing on the road... But it got me there, every single time. Unfortunately someone rear-ended me while they were texting at 55. :(

Big ole exterior roll cage with a custom rod holder, throw a 6inch lift in and some 37’s, snorkel for sure, throw a heavy duty front and rear bumper, and have the swinging Spare tire bumper gate. And have a custom tackle organizer made with room for your sleeping bag 😎

I'm 100% a Land Cruiser guy for life after owning 4Runners. My 2008 200 Series has nearly 200,000 miles and its only dropped $3k in value in 3 years and sounds and runs and looks brand new. Flawless Toyota Maintenance Schedules are key to their fehicles. I'll keep it until 250,000 or 300,000 and then probably get into a 2014, or an 80 Series.

Toyot=Lexus , every sporting car enthusiast know this...plus the Land Cruiser WAS 80Gs new?? What can you buy these days for 13000? Maybe a 10 year old Chevy ext cab with 100k miles...or how about a 07 Wrangler with 120k....inflation, money manipulation,and a "quantitative easing"has driven up all vehicle prices....GOOD BUY that tail gate is boss Jonny . Reminds me of our ol Honda Element AWD. P.s. we love our 10 year old V8 Toyota Sequioa and F.J. cruiser -->>(hopeless addict)

Roof basket with two rod tubes on top on each side of roof basket! Then look up bed modifications for 4Runners. You can leave the second row seats. I have done all of these things to my 2002 4Runner.

Aight, here’s what I think. I own a 1992 FJ80, 1993 FZJ80, and have owned a 1976 FJ40, and a 1988 LJ71. I’d say swap out the IFS for a solid axle from an 80 series, get rid of the running boards, 2”-2.5” OME lift with 33” BFG all-terrains. You can put a bumper on it and all that kinda stuff if you want, ARB and TJM and Jason Reeves of Trail Tailor all make good bumpers. Not sure if Jason still does 100 series bumpers but his stuff is awesome.

The puddle of water is your overflow hose is clogged up on your ac/heater core so it’s forcing the waste water back into your floor board a lot of old vehicles do that
@livinginthesip85116 жыл бұрын
Looks like an evaporator core leak, if that's what it is it's not cheap or easy. Good looking ride though, congrats!!
@shmeeshtime35336 жыл бұрын
John.E.ssippi Fishing an evaporator core would leave refrigerate not water, could just have a cracked air box letting the condensation from the ac leak on the floor instead of out the drain. A heater core would leak onto the floor but he would have noticed it was coolant
@Thebaconatoification6 жыл бұрын

As a mechanic... all I can say is that a 92 Ford Explorer would be a better option if you wanted a tank that lasted longer with minimal maintenance. Lacks the electronic perks though and mileage. That being expected I expect a 4 inch lift, a snorkel, dual forwards facing offroad lights, and 26in tires. Also a mobile kennel for lucky.
