they're not humans mate... they are from out of this world, there is no other explanation for the whole discography... even Pablo Honey has pearls... my only regret it that i did not have the opportunity to experience a live concert from the KIDA/Amnesiac tour... thankfully, i have seen them live later on, twice... and its incredible how they play all those overwelmingly dense/rich musics live and make'em sound even better than the album marterpiece versions.... the GOATs of music by far... nobody has a sequence of 5 albuns that are all filled from start to finish with works of art... obviously speaking of Ok Computer to In Rainbows... but dont get me wrong, The Bends, TKOL and Moon Shaped Pool are awesome, but those 5... dammm

The most incredible is how you're gonna find people choosing other pieces as their favorite... that's how it really shows that the whole albuns are super. For instance, i'd probably choose Jigsaw, Weird Fishes, Bodysnatchers... but i feel like i cant leave behind reckoner, 15 step, nude... and that's just from this album, ofc... and can i really leave behind House of Cards or Videotape?!?!? no... probably cant... :p

Radiohead is like musical therapy, I truly believe it. After my mom passed away in 2021, I lost my job and was in the worst time of my adult life while I lived in London - unemployed and living in a horrible flat, in a long distance relationship with my partner of 7 years. One day with nothing to do, I went to The National Gallery around the time it opened and began listening to all of Radiohead's albums in order, From Pablo Honey to A Moon Shaped Pool. I must've been at the museum at least 8 hours. By the time I was finishing listening to A Moon Shaped Pool, I became overwhelmed with emotion. I remember where I was in the museum, I was looking at the works of Diego Velazquez when I couldn't really hold it in and I had to sit on the bench and just take a moment to shed private tears, hiding away from the crowd as much as I could. Listening to True Love Waits, the final song in their discography (thus far) in the new context of Thom Yorke's partner having passed away, thinking of the passing of my mom, it was an overwhelming moment, and yet it was after that day that I knew I needed to move forward with my life, following the last words my mom ever told me: "Don't be afraid to live your life".

Beautiful story, thanks for sharing. I completely agree about it being therapy. I’d never really got Radiohead, despite being in my early 40s and English. Then the Dissect podcast, which normally focuses on hip hop did a series on this album and it started to make sense. Then a year ago I split from my wife, so wasn’t seeing my children everyday, had to move house and simultaneously work got incredibly stressful and overwhelming. I started listening to In Rainbows and Moon Shaped Pool, over and over, both albums drawing all kinds of emotions out of me, often at the very same time, both sorrow and euphoria, calming but invigorating, comforting but forceful etc etc. I went to bed listening to one or other for months and gradually life found a new normal. I’m convinced the music of Radiohead played a big part in getting me there healthily. it does very good things to me, and very similar to good sessions of therapy I’ve had in the past.

@austinh953
@austinh953 25 күн бұрын
@zachariejouineau6034 Radiohead albums don't really sound like Pink Floyd or the Beatles too much besides their willingness to experiment. Kid A is probably their most experimental and "strange" album. If you want a more movie soundtrack type album, with an emphasis on strings/piano, I'd recommend A Moon Shaped Pool. Outside of Radiohead, my go too albums to recommend are Ants From Up There by Black Country New Road or The Downward Spiral by Nine Inch Nails.

Jon, you were always one of my favorite reactors, but I gotta say that the way you started thinking about and interacting with the music you listen to has been stellar. These are by far the most insightful and personal reaction videos on the platform right now.

In Rainbows came out when I was in college. I never really listened to them besides the popular tracks like Creep. I had a roommate and a professor who loved Radiohead. For In Rainbows you paid however much you wanted for the album so I bought it for a dollar. I was instantly hooked and so I revisited their other albums and am now I huge fan.

In Rainbows hits me on so many emotional levels, even after all these years. It is truly a transcendent experience in so many ways. I’ve watched SO many reaction videos to this album hoping to see someone else verbalize how it makes me feel and yours was by far the best. Bravo, good sir, you’ve gained an immediate new subscriber.

One of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful fucking albums ever created. It's a masterpiece. I wish I could go back to the first time I heard "In Rainbows" (and OK Computer, and Kid A, and Amnesiac, and Hail to the Thief, and etc etc etc...)

The type of reaction this album deserves. They released it as a "pay what you wish" during my 1st semester of college right at the loneliest point of my life up until that point. It became my safety net walking around a big new city and even now after thousands of listens, it still feels like coming home

Cheers, Jon. I'm really glad this art connected with you. It's meant so much to me over the years. I definitely relate to the anxiety themes in the music - that feeling that something is tapping you on the shoulder and, at the very least, letting you know you're not alone in feeling that anxiety. The resentments, the passions, the fears, the anger, the hope... Great art lets us know we're not alone. Thanks for sharing your connection to it, as that contributes to that sense that we're not alone. The millions of ghosts, as you said. Welcome to the ghosthood.

Such a great reaction! 2 additional special bonuses to this album - perhap the greatest singular achievement by Radiohead is "In Rainbows: Live from the Basement." To watch Thom and the band create this amazing art, is a stunning legendary experience. Also, there is "In Rainbows: Disc 2" which is fantastic, no hurry, when you are ready for it, as you said, it'll happen when the time is right. Congrats on starting your lifelong relationship with this record!

The awed "Fuck Off" just after Thom's extended 'thiiiiiiiiiinking' near the end of Nude is maybe the best reaction to that song ever. Just perfectly encapsulates how I feel every time I hear it: incredulous that it exists and washed away in bliss simultaneously.

I know different subscribers will have different tastes but this is my favourite video of Jon's since the AFUT reaction. Love these reactions to seminal works where you can sort of vicariously put yourself in JD's shoes and pretend you're listening to it for the first time, while listening to a sort of live analysis of the music you can trust and respect - think this channel and turningthetables are probably the only two that can properly put you in this position. Bravo, Jon!
