I really liked how you approached this review without comparing it to Stefan Feld's other games. You did a great job analyzing this game for what it is. I really did enjoy Oracle of Delphi and I appreciate Feld's approach to a pick up and deliver game. The only real problem I have is building that map. Oy! :)

I really enjoyed your condensed rules - 13 minutes but you covered it all, and then that you included strategy tips through the remainder. Made a subscriber of me.

I believe building a shrine is based on matching the player's color not the letters. The letters are used when the island is not the player's color and they receive the bonus for that letter.
@JonGetsGames7 жыл бұрын
I just checked again, you place the shrine down only if the symbol on flipped island tile matches one of your uncomplete shrine task symbols. I didn't see anything about player color in that part of the rulebook.

JonGetsGames they need to match the Zeus tile. The Zeus tile has a letter and the player's color on it. Page 11 has an example.

Yes, island tiles, like everything else in this game, are color-coded. You can tell instantly when you flip one whether you can build there, because the background will be your player color. The symbols are there because you will share symbols with other players, but not colors. and you can get a reward there just by checking the symbols if the color doesn't match. The rulebook says it has to match the "image" on the Zeus tile, but that always includes the color-coding.

+1 Casey Williams, easy mistake to make Jon. You should acknowledge it so people don't stay confused on this issue.

What has happened here is that Jon has explained the version 1 rules, which are the ones more widely in circulation. The rulebook was changed in version 2 to 'clarify' that the Zeus tiles for Shrines have to match the color of the image, not the Greek letter.

Great review for a game that's fun and that surprisingly thematic! For me setting up the game is part of the whole experience and I really enjoy it. It's like I'm participating in the design of this particular adventure we'll be going on, which will be unique.

Coming here in 2023 and this was an excellent review of the game. The positives, neutrals and negatives are very helpful to 'look through' the game. The cool thing about the game is that you are trying to solve many puzzles at the same time (read: be as much efficient as possible), but knowing what the best plan is gives you no guarantees . You constantly need to have backup plans as well. And that indeed is a very statisfying puzzle. Not Felds' best game, nevertheless a well thought out design that is highly enjoyable.

Hey Jon! First off, I've watched your videos for years and you continue to do a great job. In regards to this game, I recently went on vacation and picked this up at a game store. I've played it twice now with 2 players each time and enjoyed it, but was just wondering how you would say the game has held up after 4 years. Do you still look at this one as fondly as you did during this review?
@JonGetsGames3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I do. We played it 2p a few months ago and I enjoyed it just as much as before.

Agree; this game is oddly enjoyable. If someone was to say "is there a Euro game that feels like an odyssey?" this would be spot on.
