Wow! Excellent playthrough. This looks like a game that requires a lot of “game board management.” I love the rotating dice coasters. Craig

While there is quite a lot going on with the boards I've found that it hasn't been too hard to keep my mind wrapped around all the options I have on each turn. I too love the rotating dice coaster mechanic :)

Wondered why a number of reviewers on KZbin are referring to the coins as doubloons? The game is obviously set in Germany and doubloons are an old Spanish coin of Spain and Spanish America. The rulebook refers to Thalers which are silver coins issued by various German states from the 15th to the 19th centuries. Just an observation - superb playthrough Jon.
@JonGetsGames5 жыл бұрын
I downloaded and printed up a user translated version of the rules many months ago. I imagine many reviewers did the same since at that time there was no official english rules available and that version said doubloons. Seems many of us used the same non-official rulebook since there was no better alternative available at that point.

Thanks for clarifying Jon, it's always intriguing, the various nuanced changes that occur during the development of any given game. Thankfully, most do lead to the best outcome. 😊

This game is pretty freaking cool. Great theme and mechanics. Upgrading your starting board is always fun. Definitely gonna try to pick this one up. Curious if you've seen in any of your plays someone go hard on thinning out their deck. Only mildly happened in this playthrough but is usually a strong strategy for deckbuilders
@Whisperhand5 жыл бұрын
One of the players in the ManVsMeeple playthrough goes all-in on the "bouncer" strategy and does extremely well. There's also a starter card that lets you move up 3 on the monastery track and bounce 2 guests from your deck; it's very powerful in my experience [~about 6 plays].
@JonGetsGames5 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen someone focus on that yet, I imagine you mean have a player only gain nobels (since they stack) and then other personel to get lots of beer to get more nobels?

I honestly don't remember. I ended up getting rid of this game a while back, sorry I can't be of more help here.

Great play through! Just one question. At 10:40 you say that if you paid to upgrade the barrel then you could move one of the fives to the barrel to generate more beer which would retrospectively increase your reputation, but would that really be the case? Because at the start of the turn the "two beer" barrel wasn't available so there was no way to generate that beer without first spending the money, and reputation is always calculated at the start of the turn. Sorry if I'm mistaken. I've only just bought the game and haven't played with the reputation track yet.

1:16:45-1:17:42 the blue player produced 3 beer + 2 in storage + 3 from jongleur = 8 beer, spent 8 beer but forgot to spent the beer from the storage so on 1:28:15 the blue player shouldn't have 2 beer in the storage and that's only 16 beer for him to spend, not 18
@JonGetsGames4 жыл бұрын
Wow, I'm always impressed when a correction comes in over a year later. That video has over 8k views and somehow you were the first to comment on this mistake, I'm surprised. Thanks for pointing it out, I've added a note to the Klingon subtitles.

At 55:00, shouldn't you get an extra reputation for that extra beer?
@JonGetsGames5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I didn't see anything like that at the timestamp you provided. It seemed like that was timed around cleaning up the taverns.
@davemaynard86565 жыл бұрын
@@JonGetsGames I also saw this. It's actually from 54:00 to 55:00 that you miss the one extra "retroactive" reputation, from getting another beer for your upgraded house brew. What a great play-through! Nobody give me a better idea of how a game plays than this channel.
@JonGetsGames5 жыл бұрын

Great playthrough as always. Really demonstrated the myriad of tough choices this one presents. I've had my eye on it for a while. Do we know when the English version will be available stateside? Will North Star be bringing it over like they did with Quacks of Quedlinburg?

Great video! Game looks fun. Question, is it frowned upon in this game to wait and see what people are going to take off the dice disc before making your decision. Wouldn’t that make the game last way too long? Would be a good strategy but not everybody could do that as everybody would just sit there and stare at each other.
@JonGetsGames4 жыл бұрын
From my plays I didn't see anything like this happening. I suppose you could but it I don't play with people who sacrifice fun for a winning edge thankfully.
@cornichon25805 жыл бұрын
Great playthrough as usual. I don’t think this game looks that interesting, and not having a good way to track beer and gold produced seems annoying. I do love the idea of the multiple modules and the board that physically flips when you upgrade different aspects of it. Very cool component.

These two games seem like significantly different experiences. If you love deck building then I'd say give this one a shot and if it's theme alone you are basing this on then I'd say it still feels quite different. That being said, I didn't enjoy my only play of GAH a few years ago and ultimately Taverns didn't stick around for me. After 3 or so plays I sold my copy.

At 24:05, you didn't give Blue their extra reputation bump for getting three beers due to their upgrade.
@JonGetsGames5 жыл бұрын
Players only receive reputation from beer and gold gained via dice or card effects. This is why Blue didn't take any extra reputation for the beer they gained here with their entertainer.
@RainTreeNecro5 жыл бұрын
@@JonGetsGames They got an extra beer from upgrading their house brew. That's the extra beer I was referring to.
@JonGetsGames5 жыл бұрын
@@RainTreeNecro Ah I see the confusion. While that is beer they gained from a die, you only base influence on what you had at the start of that evening so the mid-evening upgrade there wouldn't affect influence. At least this is my interpretation of the rules.

@@JonGetsGames I thought I saw you do just that earlier in the play through, but maybe I was mistaken.

Excellent playthrough as always Jon although this particular game doesn't really appeal to me, it just strikes me as rather generic in terms of theme and game play. The deckbuilding and drafting combo is a cool concept but I'm not sure it lived up to its full potential here given the only two things you really do with dice are 'get money or get beer.' Now if there was other things like buying one of a kind upgrades or trying to make a high quality beer with gathered ingredients that would be another matter altogether but that doesn't seem to be the case with the modules you showed at the very least.
@cornichon25805 жыл бұрын
At 1:16:00, Green produced 7 beer but only spent 5 and should have therefore saved 2. In the final scoring, everyone ended with a counter guest that could have been used to advance a space on the track. Not sure what impact that would have had. Also, you added Blue’s total incorrectly; 100 + 26 + 7 = 133, not 134.
