Jonghyun's song is a cover/rewrite of Alejandro Sanz's "Y si fuera Ella." so most people just call it by its original Spanish title, but Jonghyun's version is called "Hyeya" or"Haeya". Haeya is the girl's name that Jonghyun is singing about that is why it's the only word in the English lyrics that isn't translated because there isn't a translation, it's a name. Jonghyun heard the Spanish song and he and his manager loved it so much that Jonghyun had to make it his own by translating and reworking it into Korean and changing it slightly to make it fit his vision of what the song's message was about. This was one of Jonghyun's most epic and iconic performances of this song. And it will forever be a symbol of what made him such a great artist. In the performance the explosion you heard was not a gunshot, but it was his heart exploding. He felt so passionately about the girl that his heart literally exploded. The song is about how the girl, Haeya, broke up with him and he is in pain because she is no longer with him. The whole song is him begging her to come back to him. He loves her so much that he is dying from the pain of being seperated from her, etc. This was Jonghyun's very first solo single and he was only 19 when this song was first released -- only a few months after SHINee's debut in 2008 -- so this just goes to show you how amazing of an artist he really was. His mastery of singing, emotion and stage presence is awe inspiring. If he was this good so early in his career, just imagine what he was like after more than 10 years in the industry. As the main vocalist of SHINee, Jonghyun is known as one of the best singers in the industry. And SHINee are one of the top groups that are known for the fact that they all can do it all. They are one of the most well rounded groups in Kpop that excel at every aspect of the entertainment industry. And everyone looks up to them. They are considered Idols' Idols. SHINee's rappers are lead vocalists and their main vocalists can hold their own as rappers. There is almost nothing they can't do. They have built a reputation for sounding even better live then they do in their studio recordings. And even other Idols have said, when they perform at the same events as SHINee, they are blown away by how perfect SHINee's raw vocals sound as they listen to them from backstage. Jonghyun was highly respected for his songwriting and composing skills. He was one of the very first Idols to be recognized as a songwriter and he became one of the most prolific songwriters and composers of his generation. He was the first SM Idol to have a fully self-wrote album. Jonghyun was special, and it's songs like this where you can see how powerfully he felt about everything he did. One of the things that he was known for was the fact that he was full of love and compassion for everyone and everything in this world, and he often wore his heart on his sleeve. When he performed you could feel every emotion flowing from his being. That's what made him such a great singer/songwriter, but it was also what I think caused him to feel so much pain. He took everything so personally, both the good and the bad and he never thought he was good enough. He did so much good in his short 27 years and he left behind a great legacy, however, his time was much too short. His legacy includes several dozen songs that were wrote and composed by him. It's one of the things that all Shawols hold onto as part the legend that he left behind that we feel is our duty to share with the world in order to keep his memory alive. He wrote about 40% of SHINee's songs, as well as all of his own solo albums, and several songs for other artists, such as EXO's "Playboy," Lee Hi's "Breathe," IU's "Gloomy Clock" and Taemin's "Pretty Boy" and Already," among others. He really was one of the greats. People say that when he walked into a room you could feel his star power, and yet he was so humble and down to earth that everyone instantly wanted to be his friend. As much as I would like to give Jonghyun credit for writing the lyrics for this version, it wasn’t him that wrote it. Kenzie who have work with SM for several years now did. The lyrics in Korean have nothing to do with the Spanish version, this is a whole new version, the only thing they kept was the music and the title. Kenzie wrote Don’t Call Me also, she is amazing.

@@flowergirl311m3 Yes, but Jonghyun collaborated on writing the lyrics. He was in the studio and they discussed the song at length. I have seen interviews where Jonghyun talked about this song, and although Kenzie is considered the main songwriter, Jonghyun had just as much input and say as to what the song would be about and what he wanted to portray and give meaning to, etc. Kenzie did not write the song all on her own. And although they reinterpreted the meaning of the song, Kenzie and Jonghyun took their influence from the original Spanish song and used the message from the Spanish song to form their own thoughts about how they wanted to interpret it and what they wanted to do with the song.

It was perfectly normal for Kenzie to get full credit for her work as she was in charge and it is to her credit that she was astute enough to recognize what jonghyun had to offer. in the later interviews as he talked about his foray into music composing and producing, he did talk about his experience with Hyeya, how difficult it was and how much they worked on it

Omg love the reaction!! One of SM's manager I believe loved this song so much and Lee Soo Man believed that this song would suit Jonghyun best (at that time he was going to debut) so they bought the rights to the song and wanted Jonghyun to sing it in their first album. Rossa is right, this sing is very difficult to cover - the team in SM and Jonghyun almost reached their breaking points while working on the song from the lyrical translation to the delivery of the song as they wanted to makesure they're able to deliver the right Spanish nuance that the song originally has. Jonghyun is such a big part of shinee’s music that he still has the most line distribution if you add up all their discography even including the recent albums without him, which says a lot since Shinee has so many amazing vocalists. He is one of the best (if not the best) vocalists in the industry. On top of that he started writing/producing many songs shortly after his debut including for shinee, his solo music and for other artists at a time and in a company where it was very uncommon. SM bought it for him, at 18-19 he was mentioned to have helped in the process of rewriting the lyrics to fit korean sensibilities them rearranged the music for his voice. He was said to have actively participated even then though under strict guidance. The one you see here in a performance years later though, his heart exploded metaphorically of course. It is still very difficult for us who know how it went later. Of course, kyuhyun covered it in his memory later and dropped the I dont want to live line.

Sorry, but I need to tell you that Jonghyun had no part in writing the lyrics or translating from Spanish to Korean, first for you to be able to do that you need to know the language very well to be able to convey the emotion of each word, and he didn't speak Spanish at all and Jonghyun was very strict about the translation, I remember he was against translating his book because he said that some words cannot be translated without losing the sense of emotion, the second one as you said this song was on their first album that it happened 3 months after the debut, and to write and make arrangements and give it to someone to sing takes a while, the person who wrote the lyrics was Kenzie who wrote many songs for SHINee and yes it is possible that Jonghyun had some kind of saying because the rumors were that Heyha was one of his ex before becoming an idol and the lyrics are completely different from the original, as they tried but failed to translate without losing the meaning of the original en the end decided to make a new one and just using the music, no way SM is going to give that kind of work to a boy before his debut, no matter if they knew how talented he was, don’t get me wrong Jonghyun was talented at that age to already write the lyrics but for the company I wouldn’t risk it after bought the rights to this song that shouldn’t have been cheap, that he did that. The first song that Jonghyun wrote was Juliette a year after his debut and there says a lot of his talent because the companies did not give this type of opportunity to their idols, at least it was very rare and much less in the beginning of their career, live performances with this song in the first year of release and they were beautiful, but that performance was 4 years later. Jonghyun was 22 because he was 18 when it was recorded and this was the most exciting of all

No one is disputing kenzie's masterpiece.. but it was discussed that he crafted it with strict supervision (which i mentioned) of Jonghyun's input in what he could do, how he could do it and i never said jonghyun did everything in translation of spanish to korean, but we do know he had mentioned having input or helped with the translated lyrics working out to be better suited for him (i've no idea about the ex gf story, and i dont doubt Kenzie's genius in choosing instead of following the original which spoke of searching for the one via multiple people, to do this version that spoke of being heartbreakingly friendzoned). No one said he was given free rein but kenzie clearly was astute enough to work with the artiste in recognising the value of his abilities and nurturing it instead of bulldozing him.

This song was in their debut album, and I was soooo amazed that a newbie can perform the song like this. Since then I knew I fell in love with a group I will never be regret for. And when I saw him performing live on stage, I feel so painful even though I know exactly his gunshot is acting, I thought I might just too fangirling when I saw him in pain, but years after I saw so much other K-idol perform, I realize how powerful and emotional his voice and performance is. (There's Onew performed opera on SHINee World Concert I, and Jonghyun's Hyeya on SHINee World Concert II, I was like... I knew they are good, but what the heck is those stage!!!) Jonghyun's version when translating the lyrics into Spanish and comparing it with Alejandro Sanz's version shows that they are different and that what they do share is the music 🎶, which even varies a little at times. Kim Jonghyun did a cover in which the passion and feeling that he puts into each note when singing really gets you excited and you feel it deep in your soul. 😍💖 I have known Alejandro Sanz for a long time and his song is very famous and special, but Jonghyun conquered me deeply because of the drama that he knew how to give to this beautiful song 🎵. The original writer of the song, Alejandro Sanz, once said he liked Jonghyun 's version more than his own (if my old memory is correct!). I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary of becoming a Shawol and I think a lot of us babies have to go through a Jonghyun process. First uou discover him, then you mourn him (I relistened to this during this period and I was a hot mess), then you realize how lucky we are that he shared his soul with us, and continues to watch over his bandmates. Now the emotions I feel when I think of him are gratitude, happiness and peace. Thank you for sharing this on his birthday!! @@Yetti. yeah, its his first solo song ever, this track is part of The SHINee World - first studio album released in 2008. He didnt really promote this song tho, and he made his official solo debut in 2015 with his album Base. Second lead track, Deja-boo his own self composed song won many music shows :)

Yess, I absolutely love this song. Jonghyun voice is so beautiful and powerful at the same time. The lyrics of this korean version is completely different than the Spanish version, the only thing that is the same is the title and music. Thanks so much for your reaction.
