Jon back at it again with them tips! For real though, really fun to watch your content. It's very well constructed and you're well spoken. I've started to study for a CompTIA sec+ qualifications cos you've made it so much clearer what's what. Thank you! Can we get a video with professional tools or software that professionals use? Like Splunk etc

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. That's fantastic...the Security+ will definitely be a good addition to your qualifications. Thank you for the request and I've added that to my list. I'm continuing to build out a bunch of stuff on gaining experience and that includes several tools people might come across.

Living in a poor community in Africa where internet fraudsters are on the rise, this video has really helped me with resources with which I could use to kick start my career in cyber security to help solve this problem in my community. Thanks @Jon Good 🙏

What courses do you recommend starting with entering the network security field. I have and associates in IT but I never entered the field and I honestly forgot a lot of things.
@JonGoodCyber2 жыл бұрын
The first thing that I would do is grab my free eBook ( www.jongood.com/getstarted/ ) and make sure that you have all of the skills and certifications that I consider the foundation for anybody in this career field. Next, when you say "network security," what exactly does that mean to you? People frequently use that term interchangeably with Cyber Security when in reality it is purely focused on networking aspects like routers and switches, which might include firewall management. If we are on the same page, you will want to make sure you get to at least a CCNP level of networking knowledge and to start trying to land a network engineering role (hopefully you are already working in IT before this point). Then, you'll want to start picking up network security certifications from Cisco and/or firewall vendors like Palo Alto. You can find training recommendations for certifications on my website ( www.jongood.com/resources/certifications/ ).

Good video, and here's a topic to consider for future use that isn't really touched on heavily by the Network Chuck or DC Cyber security... STUDYING, or rather study techniques... Think about it thats huge you could become the Linus Tech of INFOSEC study techniques and knowledge... food for thought.. oNe

2:44 contributing to a local chapter or community in what way??
@JonGoodCyber3 жыл бұрын
You'll need to reach out and see what your chapter or community needs because each situation is different. If you can serve in an official role it's helpful but even if you can do volunteer tasks for them then you'll be seen as a contributor.

Hi, do you know about any european initiatives?
@JonGoodCyber3 жыл бұрын
Not specifically, however a lot of organizations like CompTIA, ISACA, ISC2, SANS, etc. are all international so you should still qualify for a lot of their programs.

which of these scholarships is best for a beginner?
@JonGoodCyber4 жыл бұрын
They all would work great for beginners. The ISC2 and NSA scholarships are more geared towards students, so if you aren't in school that will impact your decision.

Since program eligibility is subject to change, you will need to review the eligibility criteria for whichever program you are interested in by visiting the links provided in the video description.

Hi jon, i wanted to add penetration certificates to your ebook cyber security roadmap so do you recommend to go with : CEH or PWK or do you have another good suggestion for penetration certificates *Thank you* for your effort and the time you put in the channel
@JonGoodCyber4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the feedback and I'm glad that you are enjoying the content. Penetration testing certifications fit into the final section of the road map where I also explain more in-detail why I included the specific parts of the career path versus others. Part of getting a job in Cyber Security is strategic in that you want to go after the skills that give you the best shot at getting a job. Penetration Testing is such a small subset of the overall jobs available that although the knowledge can come in handy in other jobs there are far more valuable steps you can take early on in your career. Additionally, if you go completely after Penetration Testing, what happens if you can't land a job? It's going to be significantly harder to go in the reverse direction (Penetration Testing focus to Network Security as an example). With that being said, I did make a video that you will want to check out on the Best Ethical Hacker Certifications ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZK2YXuait1nmKc ). If the debate is specifically between the CEH vs OSCP (PWK is the required course), then I would shoot for the OSCP unless you are trying to fulfill a requirement like the DoD 8570 / 8140. Unfortunately the CEH doesn't have enough appeal at the current price to self fund but if your employer will pay for it then go ahead because you do get some kudos from human resources people. I passed the CEH when it was around $500 and that was fine but nobody has ever bragged about me having it.

@@JonGoodCyber do i need to study for Vulnhub VMs before taking PWK exam
@JonGoodCyber4 жыл бұрын
You are required to take the PWK course in order to sit for the exam. It is possible to pass the exam just based on the course material, and what you learn from the lab environment. Vulnhub is one option, there are also lots of reviews out there that will direct you to Hackthebox. I prefer Hackthebox because you only need your Kali VM and then you VPN into the HTB server to access systems.
@maigarstudy68564 жыл бұрын
@@JonGoodCyber how is the PWK and Oscp exam system do i will take the exam in a test center or in the house
@JonGoodCyber4 жыл бұрын
It's all remote for the lab and exam. They will give you VPN credentials and a Kali VM specifically modified for the course/exam that I recommend you use instead of getting a brand new one. Also don't ever update that VM to avoid breaking things. For the exam, you connect to their proctor service, then they make sure your screens show up and that they can see you on camera. During the exam if you need to take a break, you just tell the proctor in the chat window and then let them know when you come back to resume.

@JonGoodCyber2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely offer cyber security training (see the description for links) but given how many students that I have, it would be impossible for me to provide 1-on-1 training. In all honesty, it would be very expensive to get somebody who is knowledgeable about the field to provide significant 1-on-1 training that isn't in an on-demand format.
