Honestly I think you're the most underrated art youtuber! especially concerning hyperrealism and portraits and generally artistic skill in terms of not only copying a photograph but also creating unique but hyperrealistic drawings in a very unique and distinct style! I definetely look up to you as a lot of people should

good tutorial ! ive just retired from working in the decorating industry ! I started as a painter and decorator and then signwriter and then commercial artist , later moving into fresque , dry and wet , ive painted and drawn everything ! I taught in polytechnic university , night school classes for people who wanted to advance their craft ! And now im free ! RETIRED AT LAST ! no more working for millionaires and billionaires ! Finally free ! So ive decided to go back to the basics of pencils and paper and charcoal and sculpting wood ! I enjoy watching tutorials ! it's nice to know that there are still artists who use their hands and calculate and are ready to pass on information to others ! it's brilliant what your doing ! I never hear anyone talk about breathing !! it's really important when you're making a stroke or circle especially if your old school and still use a mahlstick as ruler and compass and soforth ! Maybe you could talk about it ! also when we are working on scaffolding and the image is 60 centimetres from ourselves and the wall or ceiling ! and it's 10 meters by 15 meters the inner eye becomes more important and techniques and rules of geometry become extensions of ourselves ! Here's something of interest ! Maybe ? I believe Ancient Egyptian artists were using a version of a Reilly method of their own ,and they were using , Hardwear and software in pretty much the same way you are using now ! The scuptures in granite are absolutely geometrically perfect ! perfect ratio and proportion and obviously done with pneumatic chisels and diamond disque ! But done by hand anyway ! I think we are on the frontier of rediscovering the arts and techniques of our ancestors ! Thankyou very much for your video !

you are right when you point out that it must be done over and over again ! it's the only way to develop the inner eye ! it's so good that young people who want to make their career from Art have so much information just available with the click of a button ! A long time ago ,which really isnt so long ago ! to learn what you've just taught for free would have taken weeks of research ,reading books and sitting in a classroom or on a historical building, studying the sculptures around the building at lunch time ! Young people might not see the wonderful chance they have ! Education by choice and learning for pleasure is a new thing ! well done !

Jono! The true Heart of an Artist and Educator. This is one of those times that sneak up on you and shower you with as much delight as it does surprise. A few months ago I decided to prepare (insulate) myself during the chilly Massachusetts months ahead by returning to my self-taught drawing practice. Foraging through Books on drawing faces on Amazon the other evening I had the good fortune to come upon your book. I have binged for hours now on the feast of information and inspiration you provide! I am a jazz musician/singer and, for me, Tone is everything. May I say that the warm inviting inclusive sound of your voice has provided a wonderful feeling of what might be possible if I only apply the same Love I have for the study of Music, to Portrait Painting. Your intuitive and patient guidance instantly reminded me of a teacher I studied with in grad school whose guidance significantly changed my artistic life. It also prepared me for a lifetime of teaching as well. All I can say is Thank you for all that you do and for possessing one of those loving creative teachers that embraces everything and everybody. For me, this is the creative equivalent of striking gold! I look forward to spending the months ahead learning and laughing my way to becoming a student of Portrait Drawing!

MR DRY! Please Help! I think this not only speaks for me but also most of the artists who submitted drawings for you to critique. I am an artist based in Johannesburg (lived in CPT for 10 years, will move back there for varsity and perhaps meet you one day) I am at a point of wanting to make a jump into HYPER-realism from realism. I have good pencil skills but I am missing those finer details in my portraits which will help propel me to the next level which I am keen to get to. I recently tried using graphite powder, a tombow mono zero erasor, needable erasor, blending stumps, cotton wool and machanical pencils. I bought all these tools recently having watched your videos with the objective to upgrade my drawing skills and achieve those finer details. I tried drawing a pair of eyes using all the tools as you suggested in one of your videos and the process was so humbling, I honestly felt like I was drawing for the first time in my life. The process of layering the graphite powder and skin details to get realsitic skin texture is just so foreign to me but I really need it. It is what I would like to focus on for the next few months until I get it right but I need a Master to help lead the way. It would honestly cut out a lot of struggle. Could you please make a video just focusing drawing skin textures (NOT a Timelaps - those take away great moments for us to learn from you!) a video that would help us make the jump would be one where you just focus on showing how you draw hyper-realistic skin on the forhead, around the eyes, cheeks, mouth and just taking us through the process of layering graphite and drawing skin patterns, pores, blemishes and making lines disappear to bring out that picture perfect quality hyper-realism. I think longer videos would help many artists like me that would like to go into apprentice mode who are in need of a Master to help guide the way. The best way I learn is copying from someone above me who is highly skilled and gives great guided instructions and repeating the exercise until I feel good about the amount of experience aquired and the quality of work I'm prodjucing then I go out and apply it on my own works. I used one video from Rapid Fire Art to learn how to draw realistic eyes and just repeated the steps there again and again until the eye looked realistic enough. Even had a few people who looked at the drawing think it was a picture, I am just missing skin details and would like to practice this. I can't find anything on youtube that looks like the type of skin texture You do and would honestly like to learn from YOU. The video you made on lips was really good but it was too fast to follow and couldn't see some of those finer details. I would have loved to watch you draw at normal speed and see those finer details I couldn't zoom into. Had to run to the mirror and look at my own lips and freestlyle them in. Using your lip drawing video tutorial I actually manageed to draw the best lips I have ever drawin off the first try and funny enough I was able to achieve this on normal photocopy paper without any grit on it. You have a different style from mine and I feel like learning from you can take me to the greater hieghts my heart longs for. Please make videos on skin texture details, graphite layering using your normal style of drawing. Blending with cotton wool and all, layering the graphite and then going in for the details with machanical pencils and just take us through the process of whats on your mind as you draw. Perhaps using a high quality reference image that we can all download and try draw while following along with your video and guidence until we get it right like you. You do not need to do the eyes and hair and all, just skin drawing and shading/blending process at normal speed using all your tools as you would normally and with a refference image we can follow along to until we master that refference image. I honestly wouldn't mind watching a 5 hour or more video on this again and again until I get it right. Skin patterns, wrinkels, blemishes, pimples, mouls, pours and roughness and smoothness. One or a few videos showing us this at real speed would be a blessing of a lifetime.

Hey Jono, amazing video as always. Just seeing the process start from a few lines and ending up extremely detailed is just something amazing to watch, in such a short video aswell! I'm not really that comfortable with my work and feel like its really not that good at all, and don't really know where to start with things. Without sounding like I'm begging you to do this, or like I'm telling how to do your job, could it be possible for you to make a video about what your earlier work looked like? We get to see your amazing projects now but I would have to assume you haven't always been this good, id just sort of like to see the journey of that. If this isnt possible that is fine, and as I said before, amazing video as always :)
