Awesome how a simple desire to utilize available material, design for stability and strength, and minimize unnecessary cost, gets rewarded with a beautiful creation. Fun to watch.

You make it look so easy and that’s a testimony to your skill level! Nice looking table Jon. Straight grain fir is one of my favorites and the Sapele makes a nice contrast. Well done!

Great looking table Jon. I really like the look of the top, it is amazing how simple woods like fir, and pine, can have such elegant, simple yet beautiful grain. I was given a 45 foot, straight as an arrow, pine tree this past weekend and will be picking it up this week... I can't wait to see what the grain is going to look like.

*Jon Peters Art & Home* My woodworking journey began in 1978 when my wife agreed that I could buy woodworking equipment and work for myself. I did some weekend classes at the Minnesota Woodworkworker's Store back in the 80's. Finewoodworking wanted me to do a video series back then. In 2013 I helped a local Architect become Architect of the Year in the US. A few years earlier my wife let me buy some new equipment: an Alaskan Mill and a Stihl 880! I did a couple videos on my channel to inspire the imagination of the viewers who might be checking out my work. I now write in comment sections to inspire young people to pursue their creative passion. A piece of old growth milled by hand and turned into a beautiful, useful, 21st century artifact by an environmentally conscientious craftsman might inspire the world to value more than Bitcoin, power tools, and vitamins. 😆

Simple and elegant. The design lets the wood speak for itself. Vertical grain douglas fir and cherry also go well together. Both darken with age. I used Waterlox, finished with paste wax on a headboard I made using these two species. Thanks for your commitment to the woodworking community.

Crazy - I just cleaned up some "real" 2x4 stock from inside the original porch posts of my 1913 built home. They have these same awesome linear pattern. I was hoping i wouldn't have to waste them on some caveman framing project or hide them within something else. Now I have the perfect project. Only problem is the scarcity of Doug Fir around here. Thank you Jon.

Nice table! I took your recommendation a while back on the wool lube. It took a bit of effort to get it here in Australia, but it is really good stuff and worth the effort. I've lost count of how many great tips I've gained from your videos. Thanks for making the effort to make such high quality videos (and furniture).

Nice Jon! It's funny how Douglas Fir may get "sneered" at for woodworking projects because its so often sitting over at the "Big Box Store" as construction lumber......and yet, as you just showed us, and I have seen at home, the grain can be so spectacular.

Hi Jon, yet another great project. If I may ask a 'beginners' question: when you added the sapele detail at 6.06, you used biscuits and glue. Is there any possibility of differential expansion between the two different timbers, say in times of high humidity?
