They were originally used by farmers who worked in the fields to carry water. They weren’t glazed so the water slowly evaporating through kept it cool. They held them by putting their arms through (hence the cork top. It helped keep them cool and when they needed a drink it was right there!

I would love one of these for my tea! This is wonderful! I've never seen anything like it. For Glaze, maybe you can take the term Doughnut literally and glaze it pink with ''sprinkles'' lol Or make it super classy and do a dark color with golden specks. *_*

If you use it as a decanter you just rinse with water and a few drops of Dawn. Rinse with water until clear then lean it upside down and let air dry. If you're very worried about germs use a bleach water mix of 50/50 and run it through, after clearing out the Dawn,. Again rinse it clear and let air dry.

They make nice little flasks too. I like throwing the outer wall second so it doesn't get in the way and the inter wall higher, it being easier to flair it out than the outer in. WOW that glaze is thick, looks good enough to eat. These are fun to make, nice job.

In ancient Greece people would use those and they would put their arm in the hole and the pot would be perfectly shaped to their arm so all they had to do is bed over and the liquid would pour out. It also made it so they could carry lots of things.

I love this! 👍 I could see it being transformed into a cat or a dog fairly easily seeing as the doughnut is the hardest part to achieve. A really cool tail can become a handle. Visualising a funky horse version now!!!! Thanks for the inspiration! Stay safe from Australia 🦘🇦🇺🦘 Edit: Cute chook/rooster, pig etc. If it wasn't for copyright, I could see a collection of Mr Men and Little Miss versions. 😁🤕😋 Glazing would play a big part too, a bit of finer detailing ....hmmm....

Amazing how it came together on the wheel. Really shows some skill!😊 How about making the proportions more like an actual donut? You know, with the hole being narrower than the actual ring? Then you could make it a cute donut-themed coffeepot with glazing it similar to the first one. Like an actual replica of a donut, but scaled up 😚

Like you said, the base is going to be sturdy. I’d probably want to make the whole thing lighter. So you could punch or cut some holes in the base. Glaze wise I’d go with white inside. And maybe if you do put holes in the base you could either texture the outside with a matching hole shaped pattern and/or douse it with engobe and etch through?

Interesting to see how you formed the body of the vessel, but wouldn't it be easier to form a wider tube / smaller diameter hole in the centre, which I presume will make it easier to fill with glaze, and make it easier to clean with a wire bottle brush, after say using it for wine or tea? Also you were concerned about knocking your original over, might a shorter fatter donut reduce that chance?
