They weren’t complaining that it was a hit to head, they think he slew footed him as he hit him which caused his legs to fly up and ultimately land on his head, which would %100 be a penalty.
@jon800426 күн бұрын
@@chrisi1466 I see why people are screaming "slew foot" but if you examine the replay from the stands, he's coming directly at his shoulder. It's only after he makes impact that he bounces a bit off Reilly, and the impact moves his body to face the same way with his left leg moving in behind Reilly's. I don't see anything intentional there. People look at these slow replays, which can make things look intentional when they're obviously not. At full speed, it's pretty obvious that it's just a freak play. It's a clean collision, but I wouldn't have a problem if the ref wanted to call him for tripping or something.

Clean hit, just a tough break with the head down and lack of bracing because of it. Sometimes a clean play can still result in an unfortunate result, best wishes for a speedy recovery and glad to see him able to get off the ice without the stretcher although I'd assume that he's gonna be out for a bit with a pretty severe concussion.
@dabaae384025 күн бұрын
What the heck is Roy complaining about that was a totally clean hit shoulder and shoulder. I think he’s more upset that his team stinks and he’s gonna get fired soon by a senile general manager.

It was a clean hit. The puck was near Reilly and Greenway delivered the check. I can't stand to see guys get their dander up after another player lays a solid check.

Clean hard hit. Greenway was genuinely concerned after the fact - probably knew he was knocked out.

The leg behind his leg and his upper body folding him over his leg means it was not a clean hit... Slew foot and a hit combined..
@KIAJD26 күн бұрын
What replay were you watching?? If it was a slew, wouldn't Greenway's foot have followed his leg forward? He hit him on to his back, Reilly's leg causes him to spin on to his side when he lands. He is never folded. His legs have nothing to do with the injury, and neither does Greenway's. He hit his head on the ice.
@michaelmcbride267026 күн бұрын
Hope he’s alright. But can we talk about Horvat for a minute cause what a leader! Immediately gets medical staff on the ice, kneels next to his fallen teammate and puts himself between Reilly and the scrum just in case, even smacks his stick on the glass and tells a chirping fan to shut up, never leaves Reilly’s side until he’s off the ice. Lee on the other hand decided getting into a scrum was more important than helping a teammate who could be seriously injured then stands at a distance after it was over.

Initial contact was clean, but the follow up is what was dirty. At 3:19 we are given a different angle of the hit where we can see Greenway following through the hit, his legs are caught behind Reilly's legs and Greenway drives his shoulder into Reilly's chest sending him headfirst into the ice. Watching back at full speed starting at 0:17 and at 0:20 you can hear the distinctive and sickening sound of Reilly's helmet hitting the ice. Per the 2024-2025 NHL Rule Book Section 6 - PHYSICAL Infractions - rule 52 - Slew-footing: 52.1 Slew-footing is the act of a player using his leg or foot to knock or kick an opponent’s feet from under him, or pushes an opponent’s upper body backward with an arm or elbow, and at the same time with a forward motion of his leg, knocks or kicks the opponent’s feet from under him, causing him to fall violently to the ice TL;DR: This was slew-footing and should have been accessed a 5-minute major and a match penalty and should be suspended for 2-8 games based on his suspension history, which I couldn't find much information on, and the severity of Reilly's injury.
@colatrl.damg316726 күн бұрын
This imaginary slew foot is only visible in super slow motion, which is not reality. In real time, where the game is played, there's a routine check into the boards. The guy delivering the hit is also trying to stay up and makes involuntary moves in the process. Those micro-adjustments in nano seconds stretched out over 3 seconds in Super Slow Motion looks like conscious actions. Super Slow Motion is a lie. See the play in real time, correctly no penalty was called.
@Hawaii9672026 күн бұрын
thank you!! I was like...is everyone here blind?
@jorgeore8626 күн бұрын
You have to be trolling if you think that’s a suspension. He’s allowed to have his lower body positioned behind Reilly when making the check. I mean hip checks are worse than this and would be illegal under your logic. It’s called a follow through. What caused the injury was the landing. 99 out of 100 Reilly lands on his back. His momentum caused the awkward fall. The hit is 1000% clean hockey

@vinokai26 күн бұрын
Clean shoulder to shoulder hit, but I will say that Greenway turning forward towards the puck kinda did cause Reilly to fall backwards. As Greenway’s left leg was on the back side of Reilly during the hit, when he turned, his leg unfortunately was stuck behind Reilly, causing Reilly to roll over the leg and fall head first.

Classy by the media person with the big ass camera standing right over him taking pics, props to the islander guy for blocking the view
@claimguy25 күн бұрын
It looks like Roy was trying to argue that Greenway slew-footed Reilly - placing his arm across his chest and kicking forward against Reilly's legs from behind, causing him to end up horizontal and falling to the ice. That, however, did not occur, any more than a hit to the head, boarding, charging or any other possible infraction. Super clean hit and the most unfortunate positioning in the fall to the ice.

Very clean hit, he got caught puck watching in his feet. You normally feel safe expecting the hit to push you into the boards. Greenway turned back hard and nailed him. This is hockey. Shouldn’t have ever been considered a penalty.
@FCMC12326 күн бұрын
No. Greenway took his knee into the player and flipped him onto his back with his arm. Thus slamming him backwards Very much like a foot sweep but higher. Video shows it. That’s a bad no call. It’s a sloppy hit.

What was actually more of a reason that Roy was upset wasn't the hit and the outcome, but the timing. Not too recently a teamate took really hard fast wrister from a distance that rose up and struck him right on the cheek. Dropped to the knees immediately after the force of the hit to the head elevayed him a bit while trying to get out of the way. Went to the bench immediately and the play was blown dead that way too. Buffalo player waved for helped from the bench as soon as it hit him. 2 guys gone in about 5 minutes or so.
