Neither the "Right" nor the GOP can stop someone from running for office as a Republican. You file in each state and pay a fee. So how was Trump supposed to be stopped?

This discussion sidesteps one of the most important developments of Trumps presidency. Before Covid-19 I enjoyed Trump's ability to retort media's self serving message. I believe that the media (both right and left) are far too powerful in shaping government policy. As Covid-19 gripped the US, my support for Trump waned. The main factor was that he decided to ignore, minimize, and redirect blame for the virus, at his constituent's peril. In addition, for his own vain reasons, decided to downplay the value of masks. Masks don't look good. In his eyes, masks make you look weak. In the face of scientific research Trump decided to ignore common sense. It should not be surprising that he had this attitude, given the power structure of his company. For most of his career, he decided what was true or not true. Anyone who disagreed, was fired. Sadly, it became apparent that Trump didn't want to make America Great Again. He wanted to use the American people for his own enrichment. Holding rallies where supporters bolstered his ego, knowingly subjecting them to infection, was a very selfish act. Sadly, Trump has hijacked a great pillar of American politics (the republican party) and used it to his own advantage. In addition his ambivalence to Covid-19 (for which he was quietly vaccinated) he enabled and encouraged a rag-tag outcast group of disgruntled vigilantes to subvert and potentially break the American democratic process. This is the most important institution of America. Capitalism and democracy are the two most powerful components of the economic engine that has catapulted America to the top of the list of the world's most influential counties. I have high regard for America (as a Canadian I obviously have much to lose if America suffers) and hope the nation can recover from a gradually worsening cultural and political divide. America is not Republican or Democrat. America is American.

Mask does not work: you can check on this in Nature Magazine and recent PZIFER executive declaration made clear that it was a lie… because of that other medical approach to COVID were dismissed.0

So insulting Trumps base is both your esoteric assessment of his rise. Maybe people agreed with his policies rather than retribution to the left.

@@1diggers1 cause he is man who makes his own decision, not a puppet. It's a rare thing in politics when a man can not be bought while choosing not to pander to trendy ideology. Trump made mistakes, for sure. Not putting in better election safe guards so he wouldn't be rigged out was one of them. But they were well intended mistakes, not mistakes that were caused by a deep state willing to exploit common people for their own industrial complex gain...

I love Jordan however he is off the mark on this assessment of conservatives and Trump. I would think Jordan as a psychoanalyst he would be able to separate Trump at times obtuse presentation from his policies. I guess even a bright guy like Jordan is influenced by popular and trendy societal bias and the excellent marketing of leftist ideology. I still love Jordan's intellect and passion!

I do love listening to Jordan’ and Douglas. But this is the first time I feel they really are off the mark with regards to many people who supports Trump. Looking from the outside, I don’t think the people of America would vote for trump just to be spiteful. I am very surprise, especially with Jordan that he cannot see that people recognise the positive that trump provided as a leader.

jordan and Douglas are obsessing about Trump's behavior without calling it what it really is. Trump was tough because if he wasn't, the left would have chewed him up and spit him out. Just another casualty. Many people don't realize that the next nominee, if not Trump will be tough as Trump or tougher because the left is so vicious. Fighting back is what Trump brought to the table. The left owns all of it now. You name it even voting. All this happened because of Washington GOP asleep at the wheel not caring. Being a professor at a university, Jordan should know this as well.
