Academic institutions, higher and lower, need to continue to fail for any meaningful change to occur. When the universities and colleges feel the economic squeeze, real changes will begin. The marketplace is ruthless, when it is allowed to work. Trump's coming Presidency is a step in this direction... a step. There's a mile of steps ahead.

We need to realize that this isn’t about Democrats vs. Republicans, it’s about the oligarchs vs. everyone else. We all have more in common than we don’t, but we get caught up in tribalism while the billionaires continue to take everything away from us.

I love this argument. It’s always some boogeyman who took something from you. People like Musk and Gates are basically comic book characters that are mythical creatures in a way. Their impact on our individual lives is almost imaginary. Yet we focus all of our energy them and their actions that don’t affect our daily lives. Yet the people who impact your daily lives we should ignore to focus on taking down the unicorns? I don’t understand the logic in that at all….
@gezenews
@gezenews 14 күн бұрын
@@sonsoftexas Their position isn't a comic book character. Maybe your cynical view (that I share) is they dont have much power. They still occupy the hot seat so we're still turning on fires underneath them when they act as face for the problem. First thing Gandalf does it address the tendrils of Saruman. He doesn't ignore wormtongue just because he's not the mastermind.

That's great. Hope you have some gratitude. I was just stating a fact, so your reply has no merit. Here's more facts : Pell Grants started in the early 70's, and are a major reason, for tuition increases. Universities that had enrollments of 3k in '67 suddenly had enrollments of 15k by '75. The universities loved all this guaranteed government money rolling in, and realized they could raise tuitions. This led to more student loans, for the person who didn't qualify for the grants, but didn't have the means to pay these increased tuitions. I worked all summer, and 5 nights a week during the school year, so I had very minimal loans when graduating. Additionally, you are in the minority of using the Pell Grant as intended. The majority who have received Pell Grants never graduated.

Scientific joke: "New ideas don't win, the people who held the old ideas that are no longer valid die." Me: "Kinda like how everyone who knew earth was stationary and a plane died off and now we have this new belief that we're an oblate spheroid of rock that is in sync with 13 other celestial bodies of oblate spheroids that are blasting through an infinite vacuum but have somehow managed to maintain the same constellations of stars for millennia." Not to mention"gravity" or the lack thereof. Should I decide I want to escape the "force" of "gravity" then all I need to do is fill a very large balloon with hot air, helium, argon, hydrogen, etc. Boom! Anti gravity technology.

“Our mental attitude reveals the trait of continuity insofar as we remain aware of the ultimate unity of all truth and all values in God. We must keep in view and continue to recognize whatever valid truth we have seized, whatever genuine value experienced; none of these must sink into oblivion once it is no longer actually present to our eyes. The man who is a prey to discontinuity accords an illegitimate priority to what happens to be present in his consciousness. He neglects more important and more valid impressions for the sake of present ones. He fails to preserve his contact with basic general truths and values beyond the range of mere present interest. He is, therefore, unable to confront the concrete situation of the moment with those truths and values, and to experience it in their light. Because he is submerged in the situation of the moment, he lacks the standard by which to measure and to judge all new impressions.” [Dietrich von Hildebrand, Transformation in Christ: On the Christian Attitude (San Francisco: Ignatius Press, 2001), 17.]

It’s correct, depending on the trade. Got one buddy with an hvac company after working several years for someone else. I don’t know he’s got a million in the bank but he’s well off and I wouldn’t be surprised. The trades are necessary for society to function and fewer people are working them over time. Big demand + small supply = big prices/profit
