I’m an introvert with low neuroticism high openness high conscientious and high agreeableness. I work in retail with extroverts that are highly neurotic. I only took this job during the recession to pay off my student loans. Here I am 10 years later feeling slightly foolish.

Introvert here, I worked 6 years retail. GTFO its draining AF and you are the lowest of the totem pole unless you are a store manager / supervisor. Double whammy loss, my advice find a desk job where you work in solitude or in a small team

I'm also an introvert, but I have high neuroticism, high openness, very low conscientious and high agreeableness. Still can't find a job that fits me.

Unfortunately, I'm high in introversion and high in neuroticism. The combination of these two factors is really hard to deal with, and I go back and forth between career paths to aim toward. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I struggle with the same thing. Find a safe, stable job, that you can fall back on in case everything goes wrong. Preferably, it’s a sh**ty job. That way, you can pick a path, just pick something, and try your hardest, knowing that your only option left is a monotonous, high hours a week job. Idk, that seems to work for me. I work in the oilfield in north alaska. Most of my coworkers are felons, have multiple duis, didn’t grad HS, etc. I work 84hrs a week. I’m going back to college, knowing if I can’t succeed there, my only option left is back to the oilfield.

you can try this: find a job that you don't hate and try to get really goot at it. while working there, go to other job interviews (maybe for similar positions) and when things go really south, change the job. you will also feel more confident because you have options and you can be more firm in negociations.

i love this video of course, as i do alote of other Jordan Petersons videos on words of guidence ,and motivation through lifes many endeavors. but after watching this video, i proceeded to look into the idea if it be possible at all to be at the same time an introvert and an extrovert , and the results for my specific web research claims that it is indeed possible unless i was misguided somehow, so that understood i came to an understanding in which i as a person believe that perhaps im a bit of both. id suppose in jordan petersons analogy, it be what you are more of .. in that case i believe perhaps im more an extrovert then anything else. so id guess i need to lean more towards the extroverted career path or i could be wrong. but then feel conflicted within myself to not seeing a logical reason towards not going onto a career path thats more introverted as my obvious extroverted dominater. i wonder if jorden peterson would agree to this claim. i hope im not misunderstanding this .. if i am, id love more insight into this if be possible.

From someone who's almost like you...have you ever considered a career in healthcare? A job in a clinic or a hospital could work for you. You just need to keep that neuroticism on medium-low most of the time, it's not impossible with proper psychological advise and/or some changes in your life. Otherwise programming, graphic design ...music...acting...cinematographer, etc... but if you chose arts you need to start like right now asap.

I would reccomend you to base your rating on spontaneous reviews you're given by people surrounding you. It is probable that people have given you a lot of hints and the funny thing is that you might have dissmissed them all cuz you thought "Nah, dat guy is wrong, he doesn't what his talking about" or you just din't like them. Try to find specific and constructive judgements that tend to repat themselves in others' people judgment and recognise them as guidelines to follow. I mean - if you have no idea what to do it might turn out to be a good way to start. I found it quite helpfull.

@@hypolyxa7207 Hey Hypo. First off if you're struggling a little at the moment, that is totally understandable and 'normal' I would say, especially given current world circumstances. Life is actually pretty hard, It can be good to remind yourself of that from time to time 🙂 Second, my experience with the understand myself test was overwhelmingly positive. It gave me, what I think is very accurate feedback on where I sit in each of the 'Big 5' personality traits. This has given me better overall insight on myself and my temperament but has also shed light on what kind of work I might find fulfilling. I'm currently doing the self-authoring program and although I'm not that far into it, I can already see it'll provide a great benefit when I'm finished (it's self paced and takes around several days to complete). Let me know if you'd like to know anything else. Hang in there and Stay safe and well 🙂

@@harikoa4723 Life is indeed hard, and full of suffering as JBP says, but we need to overcome it. That is exactly what I am after, as I am about to drop out of school (physiotherapy) because it is just not fulfilling. It totally knocked me off my feet. There's other stuff besides that in terms of personal things but it started a little avalanche. I will most definitely take understandmyself very soon, and most likely the self-authoring program. Bless your kind heart for answering, Brody. Thank you so very much - you keep in there as well. I hope the best for you on your path. Stay safe. :)
