Lets run through that list, shall we? - Kars Cutting off Joseph's hand - Kars discovering how to use hamon - Kars deciding to use hamon to finish Joseph - Joseph using the red stone to deflect the blow - The amplified hamon taking the form of a narrow, laser-like ray and firing straight into the ground - The Amplified hamon blast triggering a volcanic eruption - The stone platform that kars and Joseph were on remaining intact while being blasted skyward - Josephs severed hand being hurtled right into Kars' throat - Kars being hit by additional volcanic rocks - Kars achieving escape velocity and being blasted into space And thats not even counting the things that had to happen for Joseph to survive afterward If even one, ONE of the events on this list played out differently, Kars would've won, and Joseph would be dead. There would be no Stardust Crusaders, no Diamond is Unbreakable, no Golden Wind, etc. Everything we've seen happen beyond this point simply wouldn't have happened at all if even ONE thing i described here went wrong. I love the little "How do you always know?" While Joseph feels like the underdog in the beginning, as we approach the end of Battle Tendency, there's desperation for the Pillar Men. They have very advantage. They're stronger, faster, more durable, and supposed to be geniuses. They have no excuse to lose. But through ingenuity and dumb luck, they always do. Kars thinks he finally has Jojo stuck when he has Lisa Lisa tied with the rope, but somehow, Jojo still finds a way to get the upper hand without sacrifice. Kars thinks he's finally won because he just has overwhelming power, but even then, how somehow loses in the most ridiculous, unexpected way. Hence the way he delivers "How do you always know?" There's a dumbstruck feeling- how does Jojo always win? He sounds a little desperate, but there's also some acceptance that he might finally lose. You could even argue that responding to Jojo caused him to be distracted, helping the rocks hit him.

Like I have rewatched stardust crusaders a few times, and to this day cant recall Joseph showing any other emotion than pissed off. Even when hes a little kid he apparently is able to beat up a full grown man. Joseph at least got his ass kicked numerous times and learned from it. Did he get a huge upgrade at the end of Battle tendency that let him beat Kars? No. Did he kill Kars? No. Did he get VERY VERY LUCKY? Yes. My point is that Jotaro is a fine character, but only as far as Johnathon is a fine character. While Jotharo comes off as an asshole (IMO) Johnathon comes off as too much of a saint. Shit even the author has said he wished he had given Johnathon more flaws. Josuke has his flaws in which being that he is not too bright, and gets mad or suspicious easily (the chief's stand being the first that comes to mind). Hes still flawed and makes mistakes.

Based on something Araki revealed in an interview, I believe Joseph's victory over Kars wasn't luck at all. He revealed that Joseph had Hermit Purple for as long as he had Hamon and that, if the Stardust Crusaders could go back in time, they'd see Hermit Purple wrapped around young Joseph's body. Hermit Purple was shown in Part 3 to have psychic or predictive properties. Every time Joseph predicted what his opponent would say or do next, he didn't realize it, but a Stand he didn't know he had coming into physical contact with said opponent was the reason he was able to. Hermit Purple came into contact with Kars. Kars fate was sealed. At least, that's what I believe.

Ik this is a year old and all, but I don’t think he was using HP to predict lines for two reasons, first, Araki hadn’t come up with the idea for Stands yet so the concept of Joseph predicting lines was simply him reading his opponents. And second, Esidisi was able to do the same thing to Jojo, but he doesn’t have HP to do so, rather he was reading Joseph like Joseph does to all his opponents

Kars' Hamon is comparable to the Sun itself. Red Stone of Aja can amplify Hamon who-knows-how many times and concentrate it into a laser-like beam. They've just shot a frakkin' (super)nova-grade energy burst into volcano. It's wonder it just went off like this, instead of exploding like a giant thermonuclear bomb.

Regular volcanos can eject debris into space if it exceeds escape velocity, and Kars injected a shitton of amplified kinetic energy directly into it. Even then, it looks like it was just barely enough to launch Kars into space since Joseph reached the edge of the atmosphere and had to use the rock base as a heat shield.
