One of the most beatiful voices that I heard, I am in tears, Rest in peace

Stimme dir voll und ganz zu. Das erstaunliche ist, dass er gerade auch in den hohen Passagen das Gefühl mit einer Lässigkeit behält, die ihresgleichen sucht.

By far the most elegant rendition of this aria I've heard. I love how he starts the aria in a quiet hush and then goes on from there. Such a sad tragedy to lose him so young and in his prime.

Thanks be to God that the voice and spirit of JOSEPH SCHMIDT lives on having been put on records for all of us to love and enjoy. Love again triumphs over hate! May he rest in peace!

I believe Puccini originally wrote Nessun dorma and the role of Calaf with Enrico Caruso in mind. Sadly Caruso died before the opera was finished. Many have performed this most beautiful aria - Gigli, Björling and later tenors. J.S. performs this with so much heart and power. Thanks for uploading.

I keep coming back to this incredibly performance of Nessum dorma. One of the best I've ever heard. On KZbin Pavarotti seems to be the most popular performer of this aria. I like the various Pavarotti performances, but for me personally Joseph Schmidt makes a much greater and deeper emotional impact on me. Thank you very much for making this available for all of us to hear on YT.

Ich habe immer einen angemessenen Ausdruck für seine hohen Töne gesucht, ich danke Dir, Lässigkeit ist der richtige Ausdruck. Welch eine Stimme, welch ein Leben.

This is IMO one of the greatest ever performances of this great aria. If he was better or less than other tenors, is utterly irrelevant. This performance is absolutely devine ! Thanks, damals48!

You're onto something here Hailstone. I think Puccini himself would have loved it. I'll quote you! "So easy so lovely" He was a beautiful tenor, ah so many years ago.

I was at the age of round 10 when I first encountered him, and I felt quite sad about the loss of that man. Today I know: Let men and women develop to what they can be, please. If your life started different, please ask for support, don't start something rude. You might be a diamond, don't leave us if you're uncut!

Faszinierend. So habe ich diese Vorzeige-Arie für Tenöre noch nie gehört: Zart und nachdenklich beginnend, wächst er förmlich hinein und mit der Musik. Ewig schade um ihn.

A great voice and a great tragedy. I am glad to know that some people still know who he is. Wether it is TV or the stupid mob, there is a lot of horrific singing out there making millions of dollars. It is sad that the human ear has evolved so poorly.

On this page we can compare many of the famous tenors that sing the same aria. I believe that Joseph Schmidt had the greatest tenor voice ever recorded. There are a few voices on this page that should not have been recorded.

+Bill Sullivan Joseph Schmidt, who sang in Carnegie Hall and toured the United States, Is the only famous tenor to be put into an internment camp for Jews in Switzerland. Even though he was famous to German peoples he would die through neglect by his captors. Racism has a way of clouding the minds of many good people. Yes, Joseph Schmidt was a cantor before he got to Berlin.

Why on Earth do you question ranking singers? Of course all "singers" are different (beautiful and wonderful), some are more "different" than others. It is like not comparing the croaking of a frog to a nightingale's song.

@petesiegel922510 жыл бұрын
Perhaps Puccini had intended the role of Calaf for Caruso but the great tenor died in August of 1921 when the composition of Turandot was in it's infancy (begun earlier in 1921) and not quote finished at Puccini's death in 1924.
