Have you had a chance to sail Happy Cat Hurricane? If yes, can you reflect on sailing experience and the differences between mini cat and happy cat if it comes to this matter?
@JoyriderTV2 ай бұрын
No, the MiniCat is the only inflatable that I've tried.
@PeteLeuenberger2 ай бұрын
The mini cat looks to be more rigid structurally, higher performance. Am heistating between the two boats.
@grzegorzzeszczynski69212 ай бұрын
@PeteLeuenberger The problem is that there are not many comparisons available. Only one video on yt where hurricane seems to be more rigid, faster, less splashy and behaving more like regular catamaran. And there is one local race review where minicat is faster (especially in strong wind) and behaves better than hurricane. Tough to judge...
@JoyriderTV2 ай бұрын
@@PeteLeuenberger Although I've only sailed the MiniCat, I really can't fault the design and build quality. Good luck in deciding.

How does it do sailing into the wind ? Can you get near 45 deg ? Would be awesome if you could also try other inflatable / foldable cats !
@JoyriderTV2 ай бұрын
Yes, she gets pretty close to the wind but with the small kegs makes quite a lot of leeway in the strong winds. The windward progress is surprisingly good though;.

the 420 seems like it takes a while to assemble. so i got the guppy. but it was hard to steer in higher wind and the mast would fold back in high wind. Manual says these boats are only for beufort 4 max. i was afraid it would break in stronger winds
@JoyriderTV5 ай бұрын
I thought I'd test the 420 to the limit - she seemed to take it well. I'm going to see how long it takes to assemble now that I have a pump.
@gepetotube5 ай бұрын
Great video. Minicat 420 is great but at those speeds it lacks rigidity ...tons of fun though.
@mrpickles38255 ай бұрын
I noticed that too. I was imagining if you made a long plastic beams on top of each hull attached to the tramp that it would make the boat more rigid??? I wonder if the 310 would be more rigid for being smaller.
@JoyriderTV5 ай бұрын
I thought, once again that i could have pumped her a bit firmer.
@JoyriderTV5 ай бұрын
I would guess that the smaller boat would be stiffer.
@klaus-peterriemer44783 ай бұрын
@@JoyriderTV Just saw the video again, great one. Don't know if someone already mentioned: You have to keep in mind that pressure in the hull might drop because of the water cooling down the air inside the hull. When I pump up my cat and I'm on a warm, sunny beach I would put in about 10-20% more pressure than recommended, depending on the water temperature ...

Would it be more stable with modified/larger/deeper keels? Laughing along with you hitting 15+ knots!
@JoyriderTV5 ай бұрын
Yeah i think some bigger keels would give more grip, but it's the compromise with the convenience on show here.

It looks like flying not sailing! I have the smallest one, guppy (no jib), but I have problems tacking. Could you give some advice on how to do that successfully?
@JoyriderTV5 ай бұрын
I'll look at that in an upcoming video
@stordevbigfoot2 ай бұрын
I have a 420 like in this video, but when I first got it, I couldn't get the boat to tack at all. (The wind on my lake isn't anywhere near a strong as in this video.) My previous experience was with lasers w/o a jib so I tried sailing the minicat exactly the same way. A neighbor of mine saw me struggling with tacking the minicat and she explained that I needed to use the jib to tack by pulling the jib in as tight as possible just before attempting the tack, make the turn, then the jib pulls the bow across, and then once around, pop the jib and real it in on the other side for the new tack. That took me from almost impossible to tack, to tacking easily. Again, I'm on a lake where the winds don't reach more than 10mph. With high winds, this jib approach might not be necessary at all since the boat would have a lot of forward momentum going into the tack... Just my experience.

As with all light catamarans. The speed would have decreased significantly, and the load on the entire rigging would have increased significantly. The second person on board - 1.5 times weight gain
