I really like what you do. I would like to see how you do some of your blending.
@JosephKoensgen Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I do show a bit of blending in other videos of mine, most of which is done with dry brushing or mixing very subtle differences in the values of the colours and then building a gradient. I show some of this in the softer background of the painting in this video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4nVlppjaLSIeqs

I really love your work it's very inspiring. I'm so happy I found your channel. It help with my painting, do you use a certain canvas like Fredrix canvas? Thank you
@JosephKoensgen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!! Appreciate you watching, I'm glad to hear that it's helped! And I paint on masonite primed with gesso and sanded smooth. Then I can have almost any size I feel like, and it's a good texture for detail.

One additional comment. I noticed that some paints are "creamier" than others. Naturally, those "creamier" paints are easier to apply.

Where did you buy your canvass? I love your paintings!
@JosephKoensgen3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! And I'm actually painting on a piece of hard board, sometimes called masonite. I get large sheets at at a hardware store and then cut them to whatever size I need, then I prime with gesso and sand smooth.

What kind, or number brush you use for such delicate painting?
@JosephKoensgen Жыл бұрын
I'm using primarily a Round - 0 and Round - 1 brushes, with very fine sharp points on them. I have a video where show all the brushes and the paint I use, and a little bit about how I use them if you'd like to check that out! kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJKmaouAodhmjas

Would you recommend bright varnish? There's no satin varnish left in stock.
@JosephKoensgen3 жыл бұрын
I’ve personally found the gloss varnishes to be a bit too shiny for what I would like. But they do really bring out the contrast in a painting. Something I’ve done before is mix gloss and matte varnish together to get a satin finish, but it takes a bit of experimenting to get it to the kind of look I wanted.

I’d like to know the colors you’re mixing!
@JosephKoensgen Жыл бұрын
For the yellow, it's a combination of Cadmium Yellow light, Cadmium Yellow Medium, with touches of Cadmium Red Light and Raw Umber. And for the greys, blacks and whites, I always tint them with a little bit of Alizarin Crimson or Raw Umber, depending on what matches the rest of the painting.
@michelineperreault3 жыл бұрын
Can you give us the brand and the colors you used to paint the goldfinch? I tried with different yellows and it remains transparent!
@JosephKoensgen3 жыл бұрын
I'm using Liquitex Professional heavy body acrylics. And the yellows I used are Cadmium Yellow Medium, and Cadmium Yellow Light. Most yellows will be quite transparent, so I'm also mixing in some variations of grey and raw umber, which will help make them more opaque. As well, I'm layering quite a bit to build up that color. At the end I'm also using the transparency of the yellow to my advantage by going back over some of it with a glaze of those yellows to help bring back some of the vibrancy.

I painted a group of gold finches in my small back yard garden. I enjoy them when they come to my socks that I hang mainly for Them. but the house finch and house sparrows sometimes have them almost empty. SO I am more careful to time when I know the gold finch tend to visit and put the socks then. They have their clutch of young later in the summer, in some of my neighbors trees soon to be cut down, because new owner does not want the trees. So many people do not care about birds, and have no idea how much help they provide. What people see is the bird poo on their car, or are too noisy early in the morning. on days they want to sleep What is the shrub called the finch is on?
@JosephKoensgen Жыл бұрын
Goldfinches are great little birds and I love seeing and hearing them return in the spring. I certainly hope that some of them can return to you despite some of the trees being cut down. And the plant that the finch is on is a Lilac. I've got it at a time when the flowers are just starting to bloom and opening up. Their fragrance in the springtime is amazing and I really liked the contrast of the yellow finch and purple blossoms.

Is your living just off videos or you do something else? Wondering what it takes to live off doing KZbin art?
@JosephKoensgen2 жыл бұрын
I make my living by selling my original artwork and prints of my paintings. I don't make very much from KZbin yet, but hopefully as I make more videos, I can make more and do more videos in the future. It's certainly a lot of work to make videos, and takes some dedication if you want to make a living from it, but it's worth giving it a try. It takes some patience and will have a bit of learning curve, but it can worth it if you are passionate about art and making videos.
