No idea why people would think this is a negative. I forget if you said this here or on Twitter, but...sometimes actors just pass on roles, or like you said, want flexibility to do other things, or maybe Brolin wasn't interested. Would Brolin have been good? Sure, probably, but there are other actors. I think the pessimism still come from fans who don't want to get their hopes up to possibly have them crushed by Warners again. Call it residual PTSD from the DCEU's ups and downs.

Casting a high profile actor doesn't guarantee your show or film is gonna be good. And casting an unknown actor doesn't guarantee it's gonna suck. The material is what matters. And honestly wasn't really excited to see Josh Brolin in this role anyway. So I'm glad he rejected it.

I just worry that the DCU will not connect itself with all the new movies in the authentic way the MCU did when starting with Iron Man. I do believe James can create good individual films, but only time will tell if they will actually feel like the DCU or something more along the lines of “Joker” and “The Batman” movies.

MCU is only relying on cameos and nostalgia rather than making great movies. Gunn will make sure that the individual is great, and the shared universe will add to it. Not the other way around

I actually like that approach of having them be in the same universe but they stand on their own. The crew and James should focus on making the projects themselves good instead of worrying how they’ll connect. That’s what they seem to be doing so I’m happy. I hope Superman is going to be as good as Man Of Steel and I personally think it will. Lanterns is the project I’m most excited for. I am hyped out of my mind to see Hal again.

umm it's called the dc UNIVERSE for a reason, attempt research DC comic books. This will be a comic book cinematic world full of fantastical elements like lobo, Mongol. brainiac, green lanterns, the authority, swamp thing, bat family, plastic man, Zatanna, Supergirl, justice league, metamorpho, etc... stop pretending like it's difficult to understand so you can have some kind of commentary about how it makes no sense. even the books tell their own individual stories until its necessary to include other characters.

Its probably why Brolin did not take it or probably not wanting to play that character . Hence why we are getting names in roles of persons who are not as known, at least to your basic movie goer. I say Chris Pine takes the cake.

I'm guessing the reason why they got high-profile Pierce Brosnan to play a DC character was because he was a one and done gig. He's an older actor, and it was easier to commit to just a single film in Black Adam and not a reoccurring character. Dr. Fate. Matthew and Josh aren't as old as Pierce, but they're old enough. -OG

Roles get turned down by big actors all the time. There's a zillion stories of a role getting turned down by an A-list actor and that movie/show went on to be a massive hit. Eddie Murphy turned down Ghostbusters in the 80s and we saw how that franchise still turned out (granted, he did Beverly Hills Cop instead so he made out okay lol). As for GL, of all the actors still in the running, I'd love to see Chris Pine get the role personally.

Great episode. I agreed with most of your options (Henry Cavill as Hal Jordon? That one would take some convincing 😊). Every other point, I'm down. Chris pine would be a great cast for the role and coincidentally an answer to the DCEU crossover question. Considering that Josh Brolin and Matthew McConaughey may have turned down the role, Timothy Olyphant may be closer to the age of how Hal Jordon is being written.

Perhaps after working on Jonah Hex, it didn't want to on another DC project, or maybe taking on the role after his former on-screen nemesis had gotten so much negativity about, or indeed a commitment issue. My choice for GL from a visual standpoint would be a Casper van Dien type, but would also love to see Glen Powell in a DCU role, as he would be may first choice for Booster Gold.

I had heard this news over the weekend and was slightly disappointed as I loved the idea of Brolin as Jordan but really wasn’t phased by the news. He’s Thanos and could easily be back in some upcoming projects as well as being Cable we could always see something done there so I could easily see him saying I have enough superhero gigs to go to and if they don’t come calling I’ve done enough. This would be a big commitment and it’s not crazy to hear he doesn’t want it. that’s all it is not that the DCU is looking bad. MaConahey just isn’t a good casting for Hal Jordan so I’m thrilled to hear he isn’t interested besides he just isn’t a super hero actor. I love the Pine idea. Cavil??? Idk. I need to think on that one. You really have me stunned by saying that.

I think they probably rejected it because the plan is to write the character out. That's my assumption at least, and it would be disappointing if that is the plan. Only time will tell though, so will have to wait and see. Are you going to do a review for the director's cuts of Rebel Moon?

Henry Cavill would be an absolutely fantastic Hal Jordan Green Lantern. Great job with that casting. I like Chris Pine as Green Lantern but I personally can’t see Josh Brolin or Matthew McConaughey as Hal even though I think they are amazing. I don’t know much about Timothy Olyphant. I’d like to see Jake Gyllenhaal as Hal Jordan. I think he has the charisma needed as well as the gruff attitude for a veteran Hal. I’m not worried at all about Josh Brolin and Matthew McConaughey passing on Lanterns. They probably didn’t think they were right for the role or didn’t want to be tied down for lots of projects. Especially Josh Brolin since he was the main villain of the most successful movie franchise of all time so I don’t think he’d want to be in another superhero universe just because he’s been around the block many times playing Cable and Jonah Hex as well.

There's a wide range of ages, which is more realistic for a world where superheroes have existed for ages. Hal is the older mentor who's a veteran legend, while John is the younger rookie. Apart from that, Superman, Hawkgirl, the Engineer, and Supergirl are all fresh, young faces, too.
