I share the exact same opinion on Bulgaria Air. I flew Bulgaria Air domestically earlier this year and I was pleasantly surprised by the modern, clean cabin as well as the fact that they had a drinks service on a 35-minute domestic flight. A day earlier I flew Lufthansa on two intra-European routes and, oh boy, a baby-size water bottle and a tiny chocolate on a 2.5-hour flight ... no drinks service. Well done Bulgaria Air, proud of how much my national airline has improved over the past decade.

Josh, I'm ecstatic you love bulgaria's airline! I moved to Bulgaria in 2020 from the UK and I've flown with Bulgaria Air around 8 times, only in economy and only domestic Varna - Sofia - Varna; however, each time was a pleasure, always had an attentive crew, always received a free drink and the wrapped, Bulgaria Air chocolate. It's great to be living in this country and a real bonus to have a national airline that cares, to which I can be proud!

I'm happy to see my national airline improving! I flew with Bulgaria Air to Lisbon in 2017 and Amsterdam in 2023, and I have to say that these two flights were totally different! The crew on the flight to Amsterdam was really kind and smiled and made the flight great for the passengers! Anyways Bulgaria Air is now in process of renewing its fleet with 5 A220-300 and 2 A220-100! The airline also bought some new A320s from the Mexican airline Interjet and they look amazing! The A320 from your previous Bulgaria Air video was bought by European Air Charter! Continue the same way, Josh!

Wow...Bulgaria Air has truly made great strides and seem to be a world-class airline today. I had the "pleasurable" experience of flying Balkan back in the post-Eastern Bloc days (1996) aboard a TU-154M from Moscow to Sofia. Suffice it to say, the difference is night and day. Your 2021 flight somewhat reflected the old ways of indifference and lack of attention to world standards. I'm so glad to see Bulgaria Air took your feedback and ran with it!

As a German, I am really very sorry and sad, that you had such a bad experiences living here. Especially a teacher behaving like that actually should not have a place in education. So I am really sorry!:-( As for Bulgaria Air I really think they did a lot of improvements and they are on the right way, although you still can have the old experience. My wife is from Bulgaria and we took them this summer. On the way back we had the new A220 and even in economy it was a great and comfortable experience. My first time A 220 and I love the plane. But from Frankfurt to Sofia I had a 30+ year old Boeing without branding in a pretty battered condition The crew behaved lovely to the passengers but wasn't much concerned about safety procedures. But it might have been only leased by Bulgaria out of high demand as even on safety card was no Bulgaria branding and the cabin pretty much resembled Air Lubo. But it was quite a nostalgic experience.:-)

It depends where you come from. "Western" countries are usually accepted, but anyone from the east would be looked down onto. Of course not everyone is like that, but things like that would happen, for sure. Especially in small rural towns, even moving there as a German could be difficult because "outsiders" often would never really be fully accepted as a part of the community. Just one detail - Bulgaria and Albania don't have similar history. Bulgaria has one of the olderst history in Europe (actually the oldest country with unchanged country name since establishment). You can go check the oldest man made gold treasure in the WORLD, which is Thracian (Bulgarian people is actually half Thracian) and is 2000 years older than the Egyptian ones actually. Albania on the other hand was established in 1912 - one of the newest coutries in Europe. Otherwise much love from a Bulgarian girl who's traveled a lot too. You are so loveable. Subscribed.

Albanian people existed way before 1912 and has much more important history than "etablishment of 1912" Albanians under the League of Lezhe had tons of important battles won against Ottoman Empire in the 15th century. Albanians also were amongst the most stradiots who were sent to western Europe as mercenary. Albanians were the ones who liberated Greece in 1821, Albanians ruled lands from Moldova (with Ghica family) untill Egypt/Sudan (under Muhamed Ali Pasha) whom also created a new dynasty there in Egypt. Albanians also got Pope Kliment XI during the 18th century or Mother Teresa and many more figures... I will stop here cause there won't be end . There is much more to say than just 1912.

03:13 sometimes the German in you comes out 😅👍 Sank you Josh for another great Video 👌 Btw: I feel sorry for you what happened to you in the past, but this is not the Germany I know and where I live. Humans can be brutal in every country.

Yes exactly. I'm from the UK and was bullied in school by my fellow "British" kids and also by a teacher. I'm sorry for Josh's experience, but it's not just Germany, bullying happens in every country.

Another unsung airline! Thanks for featuring Bulgaria Air, might consider it the next time I'm in Eastern Europe. I currently have no Eastern European carriers featured yet on my channel.

10:48 wow … as soon as you said that the “door” behind you was opened! Everything happens for a reason, usually a good one! Glad you learned and fought for what you believed in at McDonalds regardless of what the manager did or thought, you felt what was right and wrong in your heart 💜

That’s quite the turn around by Bulgaria Air . At last an airline that listens to its passengers and makes the appropriate changes not just go into a hissy fit and ban you / post your passport online .

Well done Bulgaria Air. Everything looked perfect. Let's hope their management team see this video and, in fact, show it to their employees.

That's wonderful to see that Bulgaria Air have seemingly listened to the past criticism and have worked on improving their product to one that is very satisfactory.

Honestly, Josh, great video! As someone who has flown Bg air a few times, last time was a month and a half ago again on the new A220, I would say that when you uploaded the first video in 2021, I was shocked to watch it. Honestly, always on my flights I haven’t seen any safety issues(only hard product issues on the A320s). Always 4 crew members on the A320 doing all the safety tasks, 3 crew members on the A319 in 2022, without any issues again. And last month when I flew with the a220, again 3 crew members doing everything what you said in this video. Also, as someone who knows that before Wizz opened their training centre in Budapest, part of wizz crews were trained where all Bg air crew are still trained. Both pilots and cabin crews. So in my opinion those 4 crew members didn’t care at all what a wonderful, but responsible job they had. I also think that maybe EASA through the Bulgarian CAA was involved after your video went viral.

Great video, Josh. So good to see that Bulgaria Air took their issues to heart and sorted out the issues! And very interesting to hear a bit about your history as I was curios as to why you disliked Germany so much. 😉

This made me laugh. My Bulgarian girlfriend (subsequently wife) flew into Sofia a few times in the 1990s. Sofia airport then (no exaggeration) was a rusting green metal shed with a fly-infested hole in the floor for a toilet. Later on, after EU investment, it's your normal European airport. Bit of a shame, really, as it divested me of dinner table stories!

Excellent review @JoshCahill with an extremely positive outcome. More airline companies should be fallowing the example of Air Bulgaria, incl. Lufthansa and Air France. Amazing hard product for European standards. Thanks for sharing your childhood experience and standing up for the others!! As a positive feedback for you - comparing Albania and Bulgaria ?! Not that similar in Y modest experience. Probably Serbia would be a more accurate comparison. Cheers buddy! And thanks for the review!

Really glad to see You happy with the changes the company has made, and sincere congratulations to Bulgaria Air and everyone involved within the company, to make such a difference in a positive direction. Bravo!
