That boox note would be great for me as a therapist. I use a tablet to take notes during sessions but this would eliminate distractions and make it feel more like paper for me

That sounds perfect! I’ve been really loving mine, it’s a bit niche for the use case but really incredible for the right person/situation.

I usually get humblebundle comics bundles and that color ereader seems like a great idea to just have everything loaded in there
@joshfenn2 ай бұрын
For sure! Completely forgot to mention it since it’s not really my thing, but any kind of graphic novels/manga would probably be really great with the color e-ink

I am a huge fan of the MOFT Folding Sit-Stand Desk, it saved my back and arms during the WFH remote period of the pandemic and continues to do so! I recognize a box from Amazon could do this, but I have had boxes crumble under the weight of a monitor or a heavier laptop. I've never had issues with this handy desk lift and its easy for me to share this with my wife when she needs it.

One really notices the pleasingly warm timbre of your regular mike when it’s contrast against what’s probably pretty decent web cam mikes.
@joshfenn2 ай бұрын
It was crazy hearing the difference in the edit for me too! I had tested the webcam mic separately and thought it was solid but you can’t beat the depth of a way too expensive pro mic and some heavy editing haha.

For those unaware (I'm aware many of us will already know this), it's particular important to add a note about quantifying the battery autonomy of the UPS. The runtime is obviously dependent on the load you put on the UPS but I'd imagine in these applications you'll be running at least half-load, maybe closer to full-load, so you'll only ever get single-digit minutes worth of autonomy. For example, if you're running close to full load expect about 5 minutes or less of runtime - this is why it's important to treat UPS as a very short-term method of backup power allowing safe-shutdown or to bridge the gap between transfer to longer-term method of backup power for those who both have it and need the PC to continue running for whatever reason.
@joshfennАй бұрын
Great info to know! Probably should have went more in depth on the topic to avoid confusion for anyone new, appreciate you laying it out here

I’ve got info for the portable in the description, it’s from asus. If you meant the big one at my desk it’s the 42” LG C2. Not my favorite monitor for work but I love the big size for gaming

After looking up the boox note I was floored by the price. You can get an amazing pad that does everything for that price. I think the Boox are meant for people who use smart watches and realize they have a smart phone a foot away
@joshfennАй бұрын
It’s definitely a high end niche item - but it offers quite a different experience compared to an iPad with the e-paper screen. iPad is no doubt more versatile but it depends on what you’re using it for

Thanks for the video Josh, getting ideas from the Asus travel screen and the Moft stand. Do you think you can combine the asus and the moft with a laptop, to have a vertical workspace? Meaning the laptop on the desk, and the Asus perched on the Moft to have a vertical dual screen setup. You could even use the Moft to protect the screen
@joshfenn2 ай бұрын
If I’m following correctly I think that could work! Not 100% certain though, the moft could definitely hold the extra screen or the laptop. The asus screen has a 1/4” thread mount too so that could open up some good possibilities.

Xiaomi lightbar is a great alternative. It's a a lot cheaper and you get remote knob to control it instead of touching the lightbar

Depends on what speeds you need and the budget but I’ve been really happy with the Samsung t series drives! They run pretty big sales on them a few times a year too if you’re patient.

I will never understand monitor light bars. I rather have ambient light behind the monitor than in front of it. The glare and contrast just don’t do it for me. What are the benefits?
@joshfennАй бұрын
Ambient behind and in front has been ideal for me. I haven’t had any glare or contrast issues with the BenQ bars over the years and I’m extremely cautious with that sort of thing doing color sensitive work. It’s been a huge benefit for reducing eye strain for me with extended work days, lighting is much softer and more even compared to a separate desk lamp
