I'm currently piloting Maliss, but its a version that isnt common here in the TCG. I am a fan of chaos space with the smaller chaos-like cards (valkyria, chaos creator, levianeer, etc.) so testing around with that. it is weaker to lancea, but against most oppositions (even the mirror match) its very well positioned and interactive, and fun!

I feel like at a core, the problem with snake eye was the value of extenders as starters. Picture this: Aleister searches invocation, meltdown searches aleister. If you draw them together then that still counts as 1 actual play and if your aleister gets negated you have no access to invocation anymore. Now to flip the script a little. Imagine if meltdown could search aleister OR invocation. Now if you open meltdown and aleister together, you can easily do what 1 aleister normally does through 1 imperm. This is the main issue imo with snake eyes. Opening a hand of bonfire, wanted, and snakeye ash all individually do the entire combo by themselves except through 1 handtrap, each starter is an extender that fully nullifies the handtrap. Pair that with an end board that’s near impossible to break consistently and you have what 2024 was essentially. This isn’t as much of an issue with ryzeal. Even a full combo is breakable, and a choke point exists. Overall honestly looking forward to 2025 formats.

Tbh, I still hate playing into Detonator. Imo we're simply not accounting for the raw board control Detonator gives you. It doesn't matter if you're not negating when your opponent simply can't keep anything on board. Detonator quite simply forces you to just spin your wheels without going anywhere unless you open exactly Imperm or Droplet. We also didn't mention the monster negate on Cross, which gets super annoying IF you can get past the 3rd pop PLUS the Aggregator. The raw amount of gas you need to push through a Ryzeal end board is just way too much imo entirely bc Detonator isn't a opt, and none of this is even accounting for the Fiendsmith engine (no Fiendsmith is not the problem here. I just don't like none opt destruction that can protect itself). I played Ryzeal for a few hours and honestly I just don't understand how going DuoDrive -> Detonator -> pass every game is fun. I don't enjoy the game states Detonator creates, I think Detonator specifically IS very oppressive just in ways that aren't explicitly in your face like Snake-Eyes or Yubel. Ironically the most enjoyable games I've had against Ryzeal was playing Yubel because playing 20 hand traps on both sides of the table forced the game into a more interesting game state than finding a way to produce infinite material through 3 pops, a monster negate, and what's effectively an omni in Aggregator. Genuinely I think Maliss is more fun to play with and against even under Shifter. Maybe it's a hot take, maybe it's a skill issue, or even just bad match ups into the decks I like. Regardless, I personally have had nothing but complaints about Ryzeal. Negating DuoDrive does not in any way fix how stupid of a card Detonator is imo.

One important thing to note in order to beat Ryzeal consistently is to know the cards very very well, so that you can NOTICE ILLEGAL PLAYS That's the real thing with Ryzeal, their cards have certain "hidden locks" that tend to get ignored or forgotten by players that end up making illegal plays or even deliberate cheating unnoticed, and the deck allow that to happen. I've seen players pivot into FS combo after ss Ryzeal from hand and being locked into rank 4, or special summon some Ryzeals despite not meeting the ss condition, like ss Sword from hand despite not having any Ryzeal on field or GY, because almost everyone just auto assume you can ss them for free, or attacking with non-xyz monsters after using Plugin, etc etc. In OCG they even won a YCS by making Detonator with a Ryzeal + Fuwalos, just pure cheating. Ryzeal is a deck that is filled with a lot of illegal plays potential, especially in tournaments after many rounds and people are tired, and can happen to both the player and opponent that allow those plays to happen unnoticed, so be extremely mindful against them, and learn their effects very thoroughly

Out of curiosity since I'm interested in your mindset as a higher level player and how you roll. I've noticed watching your videos that you don't seem to have a lot of highest rarity types of cards like QCSR etc. when you discuss cards and builds. 1) Do you have more of a preference to just play the game and not collect? Perhaps a reason it seems you highly favor playing the digital card game version of Master Duel? 2) Or do you also collect but just don't play higher rarities due to their value and instead opt to play only lower rarity forms of cards? On a final note, you never cease to blow my mind on how analytically you are able to decipher the meta across various formats. I'm sure it takes a lot of practice and time getting familiar with everything in the game. Definitely helps the community when someone of your caliber does the research and breaks everything down so the rest of us can simply copy your homework lol. It comes at no surprise you're one of GOATs at this game!
@JoshuaSchmidtYGOКүн бұрын
I dont particularly care about high rarity, I have some older stuff in higher rarity for my time wizard decks that i’m nostalgic about, but for current formats I just use whatever I can get my hands on as long as the rarities match 😇
@azaizerКүн бұрын
@@JoshuaSchmidtYGO Ah, I see. Appreciate the response! Guess it's personal preference then, lol. It's probably the more cost effective way to play through the meta for sure since cards are always constantly rotating on and off of the banlist, etc. Granted I'm as Yugi boomer as it gets, considering my more competitive days were way back in the 2002-2005 and back then I use to do the same thing, was more worried about getting whatever version of the cards I could get vs collecting the cards in 1st edition and card condition. Although, back in those days there wasn't as much rarity variety as there is nowadays. However, I came to regret NOT collecting more now because of how much value the older card sets have shot up over the years. So it's probably why I can't help myself and do BOTH this time around getting a bit more back into the game again for the past few years. I find that no matter how many times I go in and out of the game, I'll never shake my love for it whether I choose to be competitive or just collect.

How good is: -Shifter - Kaiju - Ultimate Slayer Been playing Battlewasps since the last set of support and it feels SO good! Ngl, I do run a high engine count because it really raises the ceiling, but I’m trying to figure out what best to tech in. I’m guessing Retaliating C isn’t as good as it was in Snake Eyes format (Malice actively benefits from it, and doesn’t really run cards to trigger it) so I’m cutting that to 1. Deck can easily search a Kaiju, plus it runs 1 of every ED card type, so Slayer is really good. Thrust is also quite good (obviously Talents, but also can search Armed Rebeelion, which is your best starter,) but it’s hard to justify the space allocation. I have limited non-engine space, so trying to maximize my options that also work with the deck. Thoughts?

I agree. I do believe Ryzeal and Maliss are metadecks that allow other decks to breathe, because - as you said - have weaknesses that decks could focus on. The decks or deck of the format always make the other follow suit. If they promote a healthy meta, the meta will be much more approachable by different strategies. And I prefer this much more rather than having crazy SE wiping everything. If this would be sth Konami would actively try to promote, a healthy metagame, we would see much higher numbers of people actually attending events again. Personally I know plenty of guys that would come back to the game if these balanced decks were the standard.

Ryzeal reminds me of sword soul. Not in play style but impact on the meta and ushering in a new wave of power. Sword soul dropped and it was the best deck, but it wasn’t overwhelming. The deck didn’t even get ban list hits to the core (Ik needlefiber was a key part to the strategy but the deck could still do its thing without it) it was just power crept out of the meta. Ryzeal feels that way. It’s not an overpowered or overwhelming deck. It does just enough to function at a top tier and it’s nice to have a deck that introduces a more healthy meta.

I disagree with this though, because the problem is Ryzeal is a deck that can run 18 one card starters to either fiendsmith or ryzeal, and still runs 20 hand traps, so saying we are entering into a less hand trap format is entirely incorrect. Ryzeal is absolutely the deck to beat this format, and the problem is even if you stop the duo drive, the detonator having 3 pops plus a monster negate in one body that has battle and effect destruction protection is more than oppressive enough to stop anyone from playing the game, especially behind 2-4 hand traps.

I personally find Maliss way more frustrating to play against. We still don't have a HT that interacts with direct setting makes it risky to interact with White Binder and Rabbit. Their full board honestly feels just as layered as SE (not to Yubel extent) if you allow them to get there. And the fact that it -can- play Shifter, which for some reason is still at 3, causes even more non-game experience. I don't actually have a huge issue with Ryzeal, FS or not, despite the deck being stronger. At least the game experience is better. Regarding Lancea against Maliss: can someone explain me why Lancea is considered fine and a "good thing for the game" but shifter is toxic and should be banned? To be clear: i think both are fine and a good thing for the game but i find kinda hypocritical that one is considered a good thing and the other a toxic card when they are both a lingering floodgate for some decks

They're both just as bad the only difference is d shifter is more oppressive towards like 80 percent of the decks in the game but lancea is niche

They're both annoying lingering floodgates, the difference is one lasts for 2 turns and requires an empty GY, while the other can be tributed from field OR hand, and has ways to set up both including setting/special summoning from deck.

@@MarioLopez-xs3vc so you're saying that lancea is even a bigger offender than shifter? lol

Back in the day we didn’t have a universal tool box of hand traps to counter everything. Once upon a time if Monarchs were meta then you played Mask of Restrict. If something banished then you played cards that prevented your opponent from banishing like Chaos Hunter. Nowadays the game revolves around instant reactions as opposed to counter play. “You can’t play Yugioh” is the best way to play! It’s like Uno minus the draws.

This format has less hand traps than snake eyes format - confused on how that makes it more ass
@lorenshone23732 күн бұрын
I beg to differ I just went to a regional and minimum handtraps was 15+ so again I repeat this format is ass because of it
