Not to sound like one of those people- because I roll my eyes whenever people say stuff like this, but we live in the age of social media and reality TV and youtube videos where all you ever see is the most awesome or dramatic parts of a person's day, or month, or year, or life, all day every day. It sets an expectation for us to feel like if that's not what we're also experiencing, then it's not valid or worth paying attention to or writing about. I think journaling is the yin to social media's yang, it sort of helps you get back into touch with finding romance in the mundane, the fact that once upon a time, life was nothing but what we now consider to be "boring". People used to push hoops around with a stick, and kick balls around, and play make believe, and make dolls out of paper and grass, and people were never bored, because they learned how not to be. Even as I sit here watching youtube videos for hours at a time, I remind myself that I will have those amazing moments, and I'll have my journal to write about them when they come, but don't shy away from the mundane. I feel like it's when you accept the fact that life isn't always like a TV show or a movie, or some famous celebrity's snapchat story that you start to be able to find the beauty in the simple things of life. Today I had a glass of lemonade and thought about how delicious it was, and how much I enjoyed it on a hot, sunny day. Thanks for the video, Tina. :)

TINA! You always make me feel a certain way when I watch your videos. I'm not sure how to explain it, it's like a mix of calm and free, and go-get-it-ness, a sense of beauty is everywhere, let my spirit just live with no boundaries type of feeling. It's an absolutely beautiful feeling that I love to have. You wake my inner eye up and make my soul crave life and even the mundane looks beautiful again with your reminder. I really appreciate your videos. They do more for me than I can truly express.

After watching this video, I wrote a two page letter to my future child how much I love the scent of my face cleanser and scrub because it reminds me of my synchronized swimming days. As part of camp nano, I realized that pretty much all of the letters that I'm writing to my "future child" explain situations and moments in my life that seem so mundane until I realize how truly deeply rooted they are in my soul. "My heart soars and my thoughts flutter. I am escaping reality in those five minutes spent washing my face." Hahahaha! Thank you for the wonderful video, Tina! :)

Your videos have helped me on my journey of letting go of perfectionism. When I used to write as a teenager I CONSTANTLY reread and judged myself. So I quit. Then never picked it back up. Seeing how beautifully raw your journals are, helps me tune back into my inner self and remember it's allllll worthy of documenting for one reason or another. Thanks for another great video!

Hi Tina! At one point in this video, you said, "What do you want from this journal?" When I lose my "spark," I dedicate a page to that exact question! I talk about why I started writing and remind myself that my journal has no boundaries. Thank you for constantly inspiring me and reminding me that sometimes it's okay to write about nothing!
@OverallAdventures
@OverallAdventures 7 жыл бұрын
Ooooh, I LOVE this idea! That is such a great strategy - give yourself permission to dedicate an entire page to 'what do you want from this journal?' anytime you feel stuck or spark-less. I think I'm going to adapt this into my own practice. Thank you for sharing!!

I came up with a great idea on what to write. Think of the things you like and expand. Write about why you like that thing and what makes it special and appealing to you. Write about how much interest you have in that thing and maybe make a new hobby that might fit into the stuff you described about that interest. You could build similar hobbies off of it. It's like making hobbies into pokemon

So I might be binge watching your videos right now and am so glad that I found my way to your channel. I love to journal and do it every morning (ok like 4-5 times a week at least). For me I don't think that there is ever a day where I don't need to just get the junk out of my head so that I can move forward with my day. My journal keeps me in check with my day, with my dreams, with my life and I love getting to go back and look at all the conversations I have had with myself. I am my biggest motivator and deterrent and you see both in my daily musings!

One way to make your journal more aesthetic pleasing is to write as if you’re writing a novel, find the over exaggerated, deeper meaning of the things around you, write about that

Love this! You're spot on about writing, even about the mundane. I tell my writer's group who complain they don't know about blogging because their lives are boring and I tell them "You're writers! Make stuff up if you want to" but they can just as easily write about their take on Life.

I just discovered your channel and I feel like I've found the perfect one, I love your personality and how passionate you are about journaling, it makes me love writing even more. I am a notebook keeper and it turns out, I have a lot of them, yet, most of them are empty or are just books filled with the dreams I had and stories I've created. I really want to fill the others with my thoughts and ideas, mundane things that happens to me. I just didn't know how to do it so I sticked to fictional writing. You gave me the desire to FINALLY start journaling, you inspired me, I'm 17 years old and I have so many things to write about myself, let's not waste too much time 😊👍

I was thinking about journaling but then everyone had these productive bullet journal as they were going to “Get Stuff Done!!!!” And most weeks I can’t b bothered to clean the bath let alone get stuff done!!! I bought a journal to write moving stuff in before covid but then there was covid and we still haven’t moved so I barely wrote in it. But when I look back I got 2 fur babies (cats) last year and it would b lovely to have entry’s to go with all the pictures of them! I think I’m gonna start again :)

I used to get so frustrated with the fact that my journal writing was never anything big or profound that I actually decided to stop writing things that weren't "important." But it didn't take me very long to realize how much I needed that outlet. Just a place to put down all the random things bouncing around in my head. Why would my journal have to have all kinds of profound thoughts in it when that's not me? My journal should be me. And me = weird, random, and sometimes mundane. So I guess the point of my little story is that I got over the feeling that my life was too boring to write about. Maybe it is super boring, but there's always something going on in my head that needs to get out. I don't think I would be able to function without writing in my journal regularly.

To you people who have "boring" lives or "nothing to write about": there was a year in my life when my anxiety got so bad that I was HOUSEBOUND for a YEAR. A year! When I was 15. So I know what it's like to have a boring life lol. I still managed to fill up journals and you can too! :) even now I only ride in a car every few weeks and the only people I see are my family.

And I find myself writing about other people's lives a lot. Things like "oh poor Amy is sick" or "Zoe is on vacation in France. So lucky!!"

YESSSSS 🙌🙌🙌🙌 And WHO is the arbiter or what IS/IS NOT interesting??? What interests me may bore you to tears and THAT IS SO SO OKAY! As for the question of what is WORTHY of being written in a particular book -- i feel you! And I think the answer is ANYTHING AUTHENTIC. It's worthy because it comes from you and WORTHINESS IS YOUR BIRTHRIGHT.

Great video! This definitely has inspired me to pick up journaling again. :) I stopped a couple of months ago because I was going through an anxious time and found writing made me feel worse. Does anyone else find it hard to write when the going gets tough?

I've taken breaks because of lack of time and when things have just been too difficult. I sometimes feel like the odd one out because most people seem to say that writing about the difficult things makes them feel better.

YES. This happens to me all the time. I don't know if you can see it in the little flip thru at the beginning, but there are times when I make a t-chart or list because I want to get something out, but I don't want to go into too much anxious details because I don't want to spiral further. Listen to your gut! If you feel like journaling will make it worse, put the book down

Thank you SO much for this perspective. Maybe I'll make a video about this because often people feel this 'pressure' to journal everyday...when in reality, sometimes it can hurt (depending on anxiety, depression, etc.) more than it can help. I know for me, sometimes journaling can help me out of a mood or anxiety spell, but other times, it can set me off into a deeper spiral

Yes! I noticed this recently. I think it really depends on timing and circumstances. Some things are meant to be sorted through in the moment, and other things are meant to be reflected upon after we go through them (if at all and if needed).

YES!! I actually use this phenomenon as a way to track how I really am- like my mental state. I find that I don't want to write about things sometimes because when I write them down, they become more real. It's like the act of writing it down forces me to not be in denial about the things I am struggling with. So yes. Definitely.

i wanna make a emotional journal, like that i write everyday how i feel at the same time each day (maybe more times a day) and see over a month or something how i become happier or more sad... but i don't know, i'm scared my mom is gonna find it and ask questions😅

Oooooh, I love how you broke down what calling our own lives "boring" is actually saying about how we value ourselves and place judgement on our lives- wow! Thank you for sharing your journal entry too-- as a fellow avid journaler, I admire the honesty and realness of what you shared. 😆 Mine have sounded a lot like that too!. I like to think of it as grounding meandering, haha. Maybe nothing "big" is happening or maybe I'm either coming down from a high or recovering from a low or maybe I'm not particularly in any place I feel deserves documenting at all -- this kind of middle ground mundanity is good for the soul, right? Lets us take stock of the personal present exactly as it is. (Definitely missed in a lot of the egomania of social media!) To me, it's ALWAYS fun to look back on the smallest, most "boring" details in my journals that I maybe wouldn't necessarily share with anyone else at the time, because it was my real, lived life! Much love ☺️💜💕

Love that...'grounding meandering.' That's EXACTLY what it feels like! I think appreciation for this middle ground mundanity is exactly where we need to be
