I hadn't seen this news until this clip and I have to say, this is shameful. To sell in this way and at these terms with a closed process to a single bidder is utterly disgraceful. Hopefully the Guardian journalists standing up against this horrendous outcome are successful in changing the outcome.

It has to a certain extent sold out. It is not what it used to be politically, but that is my perception. You try and find a copy in Hull. It is possible if you go to Waitrose. Arguably it is speaking for London/ Brighton etc readers. But positively it still allows the poor in this country to read the news without a firewall, but every time I go there I am to a certain extent harassed to pay. They need the money, but those who cannot afford its relatively high price literally cannot afford to buy it on a daily basis.

The donations to The Guardian were mentioned here. For a few weeks, I had been messaging The Guardian to explain their donation panels on their articles. And in my opinion, I feel as though they're emotionally manipulating the public into donating, by making statements such as 'teams of lawyers' from the 'rich and powerful' are lobbying to stop stories coming out. But if you question who exactly these alleged people are, they'll refuse to tell you, outright. So much to the point that, communication stops being casual, to stone cold concise refusals, or 'I am not permitted to comment further', or words to that effect.

This sounds a lot like a novel written about a former baseball player buying the New York Yankee's. When the player buys the team the sale is financed by the sellers who want a profitable entity off their books to avoid a tax liability. The sale isn't a true sale but more of a lease, after a year the team is returned to it's original owners and the player is given any change in value minus interest plus profits made by the team. I suspect that the Observer will be returned to the people who organized the sale on a similar basis in a years time. In other words management steals an asset from owners and avoids tax on the sale.

"Our beloved title" oh JoB, you should try at least an attempt to try and appear impartial as a journalist. It is for the owners of the company to determine what happens to it. The workers of the Guardian and the Observer may not understand capitalism but their pay checks come from companies they are employed by. The owners invest their own money and with the rewards take the risk. I suspect they want to offload one title to focus on the Guardian which is (despite it being less useful than loo roll) a reasonable business strategy.
