This was my wife’s favorite song. She said it was our song and it was. The night I proposed to her, at an Italian restaurant at dinner with friends. I had the manager play this for me over their audio system. In the middle of the song, the lights dimmed in the restaurant except the ones around our table. I stood up and got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She said yes and all the patrons applauded us. We had a beautiful 16 years of love and life together. I’m so in love with her still today even. Sadly I lost her to a drunk driver accident in 2003 after 16 years of marriage. Still today when I hear this song it is a reminder of our love and the torture that she was taken from me so brutally. I love you, Paula. Now and forever.

This, my friends, was a real singer with a real voice in an incredible real band. The fact that Steve pumped out the tremendous energy and with the stamina that he did, without fail, night after night, on the brutal tours Herbie put them on for all those years back in the day, deserves the highest praise. Voices like his come along only rarely. For those who continue to knock this man in favor of Arnel or whoever--you can shove it. This guy was the original (I did not say the first) singer who made this song and band truly famous.

I listened to the entire interview Steve Perry did with Dan Rather in 2019. Steve is an extremely modest person who absolutely knows what it means to suffer emotionally from within. A lot of people think Steve developed stage fright. That's not at all the case. When Steve separated from the band in 1987, he was hurting emotionally with issues still immensely bothering him from childhood. He openly admitted to Rather that he turned to drugs and alcohol to escape from the emotional pain he was feeling. Steve finally met the love of his life in the early 90's. In Steve's words, she gave him a reason to dig his way out of emotional isolation. Right before she died in 1996 from cancer, she made Steve promise her that after she was gone he would never allow himself to go into isolation ever again, and he kept that promise. This absolutely proves my father's words in saying, "Everything in life happens for a reason. There's no such thing as a coincidence."

Steve had mentioned first losing his Grandma who helped raise him, his Girlfriend of 5-1/2 yrs Sherrie 1980-1986, then his Mom had terminal Cancer and he left the band 1987 & his Mom died that same year. He came back to Journey after 1995 touring for his solo “For the Love of Stange Medicine” release 1994. Journey then, release Trial by Fire 1997. (The last Album Perry did with Journey). It was right before they were going to tour that his hip had extreme pain, which was diagnosed NOT an injury, but a Degenerative Bone Disease requiring Hip Replacment to start. He didn’t meet the Love of His Life, Kelley, till maybe late 2010. He said he got to spend every minute(unseprable), for 1-1/2 yrs., until she lost her battle with Stage 4 Breast Cancer in Dec. 2012.😔🥲

Lying beside you here in the dark Feeling your heartbeat with mine Softly you whisper, you're so sincere How could our love be so blind? We sailed on together and drifted apart And here you are, by my side So now I come to you with open arms Nothing to hide, believe what I say So here I am with open arms Hoping you'll see what your love means to me Open arms Living without you, living alone This empty house seems so cold Wanting to hold you, wanting you near How much I wanted you home But now that you've come back, turned night into day I need you to stay So now I come to you with open arms Nothing to hide, believe what I say So here I am with open arms Hoping you'll see what your love means to me Open arms, oh-oh Oh-oh-oh, oh-oh Once again on lead vocals, Deen Castronovo Thank you so much

I have read that most all of Journey songs famous from a Steve Perry, Arnel songs in lower keys than Steve did. And Arnel hasn’t sang as many concerts as Steve Perry, even though he has been with them 15 yrs. You can look up and add Steve Perry era concerts. Steve sang more than any of their singers in his 10yrs then returned in 95 to do the Trial by Fire album too.

After being together for 2 years, my lady and I had broken up. Then, one day out of the blue (some weeks later), she called me and wanted to talk. In the background, I could hear this song, our song. I love her so damn much and am grateful for this song cause it was what brought us together and the reason we are still together. One of my favourite singers, who in my opinion deserves to be in any list talking about the greatest voices of all-time. The way in which he floats on those A4s-B4s without shouting or screaming is just legendary, and he nails the tenderness required in this song with such ease. He is The Voice indeed.

Head voice has the same timbre as his middle voice....amazing
@keithb5816 жыл бұрын
What does that mean?
@ccee83276 жыл бұрын
In an "untrained" voice, there are two distinct ranges - head and middle. You are trained to balance the two so they are a continuum. Meaning, the middle is of the same "color," weight as the head voice, which is generally lighter and brighter - no perceptible breaks or changes. Sorry if the explanation is a bit much. Hope it's accurate - I'm digging out classical voice training from college 1986. Mr. Perry has got it naturally. He has a wondrous natural instrument coupled with musical and emotional sensitivity. A true rarity. He's the greatest!
