Steve’s speaking voice is the same as his singing. I think that’s why it’s so personal to each listener- like he’s singing just to you.

Back in 1981-82 I decided to go see Journey in concert at the spur of the moment. The show was close to sold out and the only seats available were behind the stage. Little did I know that I would end up with the best seats in the house as they not only played for the audience in front of the stage but alternated throughout the concert to play for us as well. So I got the birds eye view of both the grand piano player and the drummer as well as the rest of the band while I got to experience the best concert I ever had the pleasure to attend. It was truly amazing. I was hooked on their song Wheel in the Sky at the time and waited all night for them to play it and was not disappointed when they came back for an encore and played that very song.

Steve Perry sounds better in live performances than in studio recordings, he never misses a note, so emotional and powerful! Absolutely the best rock performer ever... Other great songs "Still they ride"-live in Bodukan, Japan, "When you love a woman", "Open Arms", "Faithfully", and then, you have the Steve Perry solo albums with great songs such "Sherrie", "Foolish Heart"....

I have to disagree, but just a little 😉 I think Steve sounds the same in the studio & live! His voice is so damn amazing, but I personally enjoy the live shows. The song "Mother, Father" is probably the most challenging song Journey performed & that Steve recorded it in 1 take & his high range was spectacular. ✌️☮️

You're right. They were on the road and the keyboard player, Jonathan Cain, ran into an old friend. The friend told Jonathan that he had seen an old girlfriend of his, and Jonathan said, "Send her my love." That was the inspiration for this song.

They really were a Touring band and it played havoc with and his then girlfriend Sherrie , in 1984, Steve put out a Solo Album named Street Talk. There is a song on it called Oh Sherrie and she actually appears in the video. They were together for about 5 years and I know a lot of them were pretty rocky because Journey would sometimes tour 10 months out of the year and I don’t think it did any of their relationships much good. So I’d say the song was written in part about themselves.🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇬🇧🕺🏻💃🎸☘️

Ahhh I have officially every album and cassette tape that Queen and journey made. Every time I got a CD Journeys my daughter would snag it and it would never return. Beautiful beautiful song!! Steve Perry never married but he did have a daughter when he was 20 with an gf.. not sure if he was really serious in love with her because he kept a low profile and really didn't date or get serious with anyone.. maybe he played around a lot when he was younger.. but I doubt it. Steve Perry is a very emotional guy!! He's a softy.. I'm sure he may have had a few walks of shame, ha!!/ but he doesn't seem like the type of guy to have frequent one night stands... not even when he was younger. I just don't see him as ever being the player type of guy. I doubt he was ever the type of guy to leave one on but probably have his fair share of God knows what when he was on the road because nothing was serious. Goodness he fell in love with this woman around 2010 and he was mad for her. Kellie Nash. His relationship wasn't super public with her but we was not going to be head over heels in love with her and vice versa.. she got diagnosed with breast cancer and died 18 months after they got the other. Talk about heartbreaking. Perry said in an interview " I thought love could conquer and save anything!" DEEP! he wrote another song about being on the road. not going to give you any more hints except for the fact that it is on the Frontiers album. perhaps you can listen to the entire album and get a good journey fix. you will hear him sing "being on the road ain't no place to start a family.. oh girl just stand by me..." it's a beautiful ballad song and you just have to go Frontiers and look for a ballot.. the specific song about being on the road did peek at number 12 in America in 1983 and it was written by the keyboard player,,John.

Hey Hap...I heard Steve Perry say in an interview that this is one of his favorite songs too. You’re in great company. I saw them live in 1983. When they came to my hometown they played 3 sold out shows and I was lucky enough to snag a ticket. I was an excited 15 year old. It was the best concert of my life. My mom went with me to the concert and she put her ear plugs in and sang along to all the songs she knew. I have one cool mom. One of my favorite memories. They were and still are my favorite band. I will always love Steve Perry and the Journey guys. The music they made is timeless. It’s been 40 years and listening to their music is still as fresh and new today as the first time I heard it. Journey’s music is simply timeless. Amazing music...truly amazing. ❤️
