Great video! This is a really great pedal. I've got this one and the Joyo American. I was recently updating my small pedal board I use at home and tried a bunch of different OD pedals to use as my main crunch tone. Nothing did the trick. Then I remembered I bought a couple of Joyo pedals a few years back that I was using to record directly into my computer. Just for kicks I tried the Joyo AC Tone on my pedal board going into my little Blues Jr amp and holy cow! Perfect overdrive. Exactly what I was looking for. Still amazed how good it sounds for how much $ I spent. I have a couple of lead boost type pedals in front of it for leads (Boss SD-1 and a BB Preamp), and my rig smokes now! Awesome pedal. And unlike Anthony I LOVE the sound of the gain in this pedal. Sounds rich, smooth, very amp like, full, nice harmonics and very tight. Using the humbuckers in my Les Paul or Charvel and it's got a huge amount of gain. I don't use half the gain this little monster has and it's plenty for my needs. Very impressed!

Very well done! Too many people never mention their instrument or signal path. And clean impresses me; anyone can sound good with effects. I like that you demod it exactly how I would use it. Lots of churches use contemporary worship these days but want guitarists to go direct. It’s nice to know I don’t need to spend 1100-1500 for a Helix or the like to get good clean tone!

Currently using the American Sound direct into the PA at the church I lead and play at, because my Night Train head is failing on me. I was REALLY impressed with using it as a clean platform for my pedals, with just a hint of hair. It has a similar bottom end bloom and spankiness to the Fender combos and even a Tyler PT14 (gasp) that I've borrowed. I prefer amps, but these are actually easier to mix in the FOH when you need to keep stage noise minimal.

So i love these Joyo pedals, you really cant go wrong, they make a sound for everyone and at their affordable cost you can buy 5 for the price of one "boutique" pedal..Just buy one, dont be a cheap ass..$32 on Amazon.. I also recommend, The Us Dream, Pocket Metal, Hot Plexi and Ultimate Gain..all winners..

I have the American and run it on a stones crunch. I have the pedalboard before it. The crunches are a bit off cranked..but get a mild break up. Sounds miced up. I run into my fuzz wah..MXRP90 Strymon Riverside and then boss RE20. It sounds miced up. At home now my amp is mostly off.

One thing these pedals have got going for them is that they act as nice little pre-amps to fatten up the clean sound, before you hit it with the overdrive/distortion pedals of your choice. I find that having this kind of pedal going into a low-wattage tube combo helps to reduce boxiness and "fizz".
@myJohnLinzeeTube7 жыл бұрын
my plans exactly

I plan to buy this pedal for this reason also. I have a hughes % kettner tubemeister 18 which has a nice marshall style dirt channel and maybe a fender style clean channel which sound really nice but sometimes not as bright or chunky and not very good with my other dirt pedals. I think this could solve problem from what I've read on the internet but if not... it's like 40 bucks so not a huge loss.

@marksargent29089 жыл бұрын
Purple Haze put it into your fx loop input on your amp, if you have one. In saying that, it still sounds good in front of the amp, via clean channel.
@Ronnie6310009 жыл бұрын
P.S. I am referring to the vol on the amp head and the drive on the pedal. I have a 2012` R8 Les Paul that I got for my Birthday in Sept 2012`. I like to play mostly with the guitar plugged into the amp with the vol turned up for that great natural tube O.D. Take care.

For the money, these pedals can't be beat. I have the American, California, and British. Each one sounds like a full-fledged amp in a box.
@Jonathan-L7 жыл бұрын
I reckon the AC Tone is better pick than the American Sound (brown) or British Sound (purple). The AC Tone seems to have a good range of clean to crunch. Great demo. Love the piezo pickup ... nice acoustic tone!
@HomeGuitarMods7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I own the AC and the California tone and have used the American Sound and I must say I really like the American sound. The California sound is a bit crazy for guitar but I think it works really well on bass guitar.

Excellent demo. Me like this pedal and I'm lucky enough to own a vintage AC30 too! What do you want on top of your real old-time natural JMI/VOX tone?? You want more VOX tone of course! Anthony, you are a mellow dude and you've sold me on this pedal and $32?? You simply cannot go wrong and IMHO digital technology can be boss hoss when it wants to be! IMO digital devices can be cool and they're getting closer to perfect emulation every day if they aren't there already: more like the real thing than the real thing...

Thanks for the in-depth review. You say below "the ac tone gets noisy at high gain, but again like most high gain pedals." I got one of these recently and I have never heard so much noise. It's really a shame because it provides some great sounds but I don't believe I can use "half a pedal". I'd be interested to see you do a vid with the drive on full and then sweep the voice.

I randomly got this pedal after hearing about this brand and checking out a bunch of vids showcasing their products. For the price, there's almost no competition as far as decent sound and build quality. I will get others but i'm not sure what to get. Part of the reason is that really too many negative reviews on any of the Joyo pedals. Basically, i wouldn't mind getting all of them. haha. I see that they now have a new product line, i forget the name they use but they're all smaller.
@HomeGuitarMods9 жыл бұрын
My experience with Joyo pedals has been great. Not that lemons don't exist, but I wouldn't think twice about buying one of there pedals, especially when there only $30. Thanks for watching!
@chojinkid9 жыл бұрын
drive sounds fantastic here, why do you think it sounds too clippy?
@HomeGuitarMods9 жыл бұрын
After re-watching I must say it does sound good in the video, but to me it's too all or nothing. The lighter drive sounds get a little to fuzzy and not as smooth as for say your standard overdrive pedal and feels wrong in the hands when compared to a real vox or other tube amp. That being said, that's my opinion and I still think this is a fantastic pedal! Thanks for watching!
@PPanossss9 жыл бұрын
hi Anthony Where does this thing should be plugged in a pedal chain? Also, are those joyo pedals noisy? Thanks
@HomeGuitarMods9 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply. I place mine after my drive pedals but before my delays and tremolo and reverb. But if you normally run those effects before your amp, than run the joyo last. It also make for an awesome overdrive pedal I to an amp. As far as noise, it depends on the pedal. My tremolo is silent, my ultimate drive has as much noise as any other high gain pedal, the ac tone gets noisy at high gain, but again like most high gain pedals. Hope that helps! Thanks for watching!

+Franco Dynamo Thank you! I did change the pickups. Its a GFS Dream 90 in the neck and a Seymour Duncan Parallel Axesis in the bride. The bridge pickup is spaced for guitars with a tremolo but I liked the sound. Now the guitar has a Seymour Duncan SH-4.

Hello. I am going to purchase this to use as a O.D. pedal. I have a Kustom 5H / Kustom 1x12 cab that I use for practice. I want a O.D. pedal with at least a Bass,Treble adj. Right now I have a Johnson Vintage Tube O.D. with only Tone adj. Could I also use this as a EQ when I want to turn up the Vol knob for natural (But Loud,I put in ear plugs) Tube O.D. and turn down the drive and just utilize the B,M and T adj.? I like to crank-it up on weekends when my neighbor is out of town but there is too much bass and treble. I can use the tone pot on the guitar but then it is really "loose" or "Muddy" in the bass. I got my 36` Coupe 1x12", but I only break that out for the serious (But fun as can be!) play sessions (No practice). I will get around to moding this Head with a MV,B,M and T pots. Excellent demo. Thank you. Keep Rock`en! From Sioux City,Ia. Please reply with you opinion.
@CurranLong9 жыл бұрын
I have one of these, and you could definitely use is for the EQ section. With the drive down, it can be completely clean. Then you just turn up the Level knob (which has plenty of headroom to push your signal much louder) and you have a 'clean' signal that you can EQ. I am very impressed with the Bass, Mid, Treb pots on this pedal, They work much like an amp!

Yeah, I'm debating whether or not one of the Nux Force multi-effect pedals is worth a gamble, or keep it Joyo and try the d-seed? I love pawn shops and I love dirtbox effects. I have the Rogue Analog Delay and Tremolo, and both are fantastic. The Behringer VT-999 tube monster has it's uses (if nothing else, it's got a noise gate). Chinese is kinda where it's at these days, and my Squier Classic Vibe 50s Telecaster is proof-in-fact of that!
@gifgit9 жыл бұрын
brandon wagner The d seed does look quite good, I know they`re cheap pedals but compared to a lot of other " budget" brands they seem the best XD
@dronestereo9 жыл бұрын
The Joyo brand definitely gets the best reviews across the board, although there are some misses (ultimate octave fuzz, I'm lookin at you!). Still, most are good if not great, and these that are emulating the Tech 21 stuff have me kinda excited, especially the possibility of just running it directly into my recording interface or into a p.a. w/o using an amp.
@gifgit9 жыл бұрын
brandon wagner Got my ac tone earlier and couldn`t wait to try it out. It sounds fantastic even through my shitty laptop speakers. The range of sounds available is stunning for the price and it has way more distortion than I thought it would have. It goes from smooth subtle drive to all out metal. Gonna take it out to the garage later to try it through my 150 watt peavey stack. XD

What "voice" does?
@HomeGuitarMods10 жыл бұрын
The voice changes the amount of distortion and changes the mid sound of the pedal. It really changes the sound of the whole pedal when you turn in.

Anthony Brown Hey Anthony I've seen a few of your vids and they're really well done. Just a side note - a while back, not too long ago, I got heavily into the "boutique" pedals kind of thing and they sounded good, then I bought the AC Tone and the California Sound for 30 euros a pop and I said to myself. "all this boutique craze is just a big rip-off" And I'm saying it not because they sound bad but they're expensive as hell and I can get a better sound out of my regular 80 or 90 or 100 euro pedals than I get out of the boutique ones that cost me 220 and 230 a pop and out of the boutique pedals I got I bought just drives so 220 euros is like 240 dollars for a drive - I'm done with boutique stuff. Anyway keep up the good work.
@houseofhits17 жыл бұрын
Not as good as an amp, or for that matter the Carl Martin AC Tone, but gives u a reasonable facsimile of the Voc character.
